Back in 90s when traveling the NT with the Army, the sharp rocks and sticks would savage our side walls. You're spot on about the need to have the right tire up there.

Immediate takeaway, my folding table can hold a heavy ass tyre 😂
I’ve got BFG KM2 all the way round and never had an issue with them. Driven em all over Aus, Nhulunbuy down the middle, down the east coast and through all types. Love em - just crazy loud haha

I run this tire on my 2015 Chevy duramax 2500hd, and it has be the best all around tire i have ever used and just got 70k miles out of mine. They go on long trips with my rv cross country from Texas to San Diego to the Mountains of Montana and the Snow Traction is amazing, the wet traction is the best i ever had on tires and i Pull my Rv onto the Beach and Sand on the Texas Coast with out ever getting stuck in soft sand. I'm about to buy another set and highly recomend this tire for all around use. Down Fall is they are heave and take alot of weights to balance and you will lose MPG i lost about 1 to 2 MPG from the weights of thest tires being 15lbn heavier then last tires.

Hey great stuff here! I have been looking between these tires and bfgoodrich K02. I am not doing a lot of offroad like you are, but looking into using these tires as my weekend camping and going offroad. I also just saw the new K03 Bfgoodrich just came out, any recommendations?

Hey mate, thankyou! Another big thing I failed to mention is load rating, my tyres are load range E, which is a very stiff sidewall, Allot stronger then say a load range C, so something to think about if you want more comfort over the strongest tyre... for you a decent A/T would do the trick. BFG's have a great rep and I would try them out for sure.

Thanks man, The Nitto's are a tough tyre also but as you said nothing is infallible, I did one on the in to Cameron Corner earlier this year (Ridge Grappler) with a stick in the edge of the tread where the steel belt finished. My only negative with them is they're not awesome on wet tar so that's why I'm looking at these.

    • @OutbackOffroadNT
      @OutbackOffroadNT  Před 8 měsíci +1

No worries mate thankyou for watching, appreciate the comment. Yeah that's interesting and I always love hearing these first hand accounts on things. Good to note the nitto's aren't that great in the wet, I do like these tyres and would definitely get again. I've done some wet bitumen with these, not a hell of allot though, just yesterday i got caught in a big rain actually, and the treads well worn and they seemed fine, but again I haven't done allot in the wet with these.

Yes, try watching the video, I said in the video that I have used them... for the bush they are terrible, weak sidewalls that puncture easily. I had them on my LandCruiser and had punctures in 3 out of 4 tyres well before the tread was worn out, so I got rid of them and put Toyo M/T on instead, excellent tyre. Cheers

mine are great off-road but I definitely feel the deeper puddles while on the road. not really hydroplaining, but not as good as my falken wildpeak at3 w. also much louder than my falkens. for what i do, i will not be getting them again. they look cool though lol and thats funny that you said you got more punctures. i have had 2 flats in three months and never had one in 3 sets of the Falkens... also, that is not off-road, just on-road. maybe i am just having bad luck with them

    • @OutbackOffroadNT

Yeah fair enough mate, what caused the flat tyres? Yeah it's funny how that works out. Cooper Rugged Trek, Falken Wildpeak R/T, Mickey Baja Boss A/T all very similar. The Wildpeak AT3W, however, is a much milder tread design. Certain terrains' geology and flora as noted above will "savage" just about any rubber tire's sidewall. Tires seem like living things...

@OutbackOffroadNT I know of several fleets running the Permian basin that have had really good results with the KT tire. Running through the oil fields covered in cactus, mesquite bushes, and every other tires chomping hazards possible, they report the new KT is surviving better than anything else on the market. Guess BFG nail that market(pun intended). If you do try them, love to hear your feed back. Hey mate.
Good to see another Territorian doing CZcams reviews.
Its good seeing reviews from the NT, due to the harshness of the country up here.
I used Duratracs around Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
They were the older Duratrac with the "weaker" sidewalls.
I put over 70000kms on them when i sold them as i moved back into town and swapped sizes. Had them on a Gu patrol.
      Never had any punctures ect.
They had big cuts and chips in the main tread blocks. The sidewall biters were pretty cut up, but they never punctured.
      I would certainly recommend them.
I hear the new Duratracs have 3 ply sidewalls now.
Currently running Maxxis Razr 10 plys.
Will be going back to Duratracs when i post back out to remote station.
