Thank you so much for explaining because I’m trying to get different commentaries. I’d go through John MacArthur study guides and I’m thinking of adding a commentary to my studies to better understand the scripture in more depth. I’m going to be doing a first Corinthian study here in a little bit and so I was thinking of getting John MacArthur and now I know to get both the commentary and his New Testament commentary.

Your videos have been most helpful- I’ve read a variety of different commentaries based on your videos - I like this version because it explains the text- I’ve also read J Vernon McGee , and some in the series God’s Word For You- Please continue making more videos like this
I love mine. I got the complete set in 2015 when it came out. ❤️I got the whole set for under 400 in 2015. Now it's over 500.

Mi primer contacto con un comentario Bíblico fue allá por el año 2012 y fue precisamente de John Macarthur del tomo que incluye Galatas y Efesios. Personalmente me han sido útiles. Actualmente tengo el set completo del Nuevo Testamento. Gracias por la información. Saludos desde Coahuila México.

I know that MacArthur holds to the doctrine of election, but does he actually hold to all the doctrinal points of Calvinism?
Many people incorrectly believe that if one holds to election (just ONE of the points of Calvinism), that they are also a "full-blown" Calvitist.
He holds to all five points but where he differs from “classically reformed” theology is in his belief in dispensationalism. Reformed theology teaches covenant theology which is very different from dispensationalism

If you have his study Bible, does not need that Bible Commentary. And also, all of his commentary can be heard from free resources from Grace to you page/ apps.

John MacArthur commentaries are, in my opinion, just okay, but not much more. I used to own most of the set, but I didn't find them to be particularly helpful, so I sold off or gave away all of them. I haven't missed them.
I am revising my comments. As always, your posts are helpful, sincere, and avoid controversy. Personally I cannot get past the serious questions raised about the money John has made from all of his books, including commentaries. Until there is more transparency on this issue from John and his ministry, I will pass on any of his books. I doubt if this post will last very long on your channel but these are legitimate concerns shared by many in the evangelical community. Bluntly, there is BIG money to be made in writing books. And unfortunately MacArthur is a prime example. The corrupting influence of money cannot be ignored. Again, I rely on your website as a guide for purchasing commentaries. Based on what I read, I purchased Motyer's commentary on Isaiah. It was profoundly helpful. Along with John Stott and James Montgomery Boice, Motyer truly blessed my life and my understanding of God's eternal word. I do not group MacArthur with those authors primarily because of the issues previously mentioned. Many thanks for reading!
Hi Robert, I have never heard about the issues you raise regarding MacArthur's compensation but I imagine you read them somewhere. It's true that I try to "report" rather than "persuade" on some issues, but cordial and respectful option is welcome and your comments fit within those contours to me. Take care.
@@BestBibleCommentaries The man comes from a prominent family and of course he or his wife may have inherited money. I like John MacArthur. I am not a reformist and he rarely brings that up. I have noticed on Amazon just how many books he has written. If you put your books on Amazon you don't get as much money as if you sell it through a publisher. I mean he is a scholar and is able to write so many books and of course all of the different Bibles want him to endorse them. Of course he makes money. I don't have a problem with that. Has anyone ever said how much he gives away? I never hear just that he made a lot of money. I would be careful about judging a Christian brother, just saying. I mean who really knows the inner workings of a man. Just someone wanting to post a vid condemning a man. I mean whatever made them want to do it. Maybe a certain teaching that hit to close to home. I am just guessing. Just listen to his series on Isa. 53. I got all choked up listening to those. The Christians back then would witness using these O.T. writings about the Lord. Thanks for your review on commentaries, I really like them.
What's wrong with making a lot of money through legit means? What matters is what you do with it...
who are these books recommended for?...."for fans of John MacArthur...." wow, deep man....only people that have a Doctorate of Theology r 'dat deep! The lack of depth and academic gravitas in today's leadership is ! God, bring back someone credible like R. C. The flippant, low info leaders in organized religion lead SO much to be desired almost everywhere!
MacArthur is not a Calvinist
