I’m not sure if I’m calvinism or Dispensationalism. But here are some things I found interesting.
If God would have painted a yellow stripe on the backs of the elect I would go around lifting shirts. But since He didn’t I must preach “whosoever will” and when “whatsoever” believes I know that he is one of the elect. - Charles Spurgeon
I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite sure that if God had not chosen me I should never have chosen him; and I am sure he chose me before I was born, or else he never would have chosen me afterwards; and he must have elected me for reasons unknown to me, for I never could find any reason in myself why he should have looked upon me with special love. -Charles Spurgeon
C.H. Spurgeon Autobiography (ed. Banner of Truth, 1962)
Charles Simeon’s (Calvinist) conversation with John Wesley (Arminian)
It is instructive in this connection to ponder Charles Simeon’s account of his conversation with John Wesley on December 10, 1784 (the date is given in Wesley’s journal):
Charles Simeon: “Sir, I understand that you are called an Arminian; and I have been sometimes called a Calvinist; and therefore I suppose we are to draw daggers. But before I consent to begin the combat, with your permission I will ask you a few questions.… Pray, Sir, do you feel yourself a depraved creature, so depraved that you would never have thought of turning to God, if God had not first put it into your heart?”
John Wesley: “Yes,” says the veteran, “I do indeed.”
Charles Simeon: “And do you utterly despair of recommending yourself to God by anything you can do; and look for salvation solely through the blood and righteousness of Christ?”
John Wesley: “Yes, solely through Christ.”
Charles Simeon: “But, Sir, supposing you were at first saved by Christ, are you not somehow or other to save yourself afterwards by your own works?”
John Wesley: “No, I must be saved by Christ from first to last.”
Charles Simeon: “Allowing, then, that you were first turned by the grace of God, are you not in some way or other to keep yourself by your own power?”
      John Wesley: “No.”
Charles Simeon: “What, then, are you to be upheld every hour and every moment by God, as much as an infant in its mother’s arms?”
      John Wesley: “Yes, altogether.”
Charles Simeon: “And is all your hope in the grace and mercy of God to preserve you unto his heavenly kingdom?”
John Wesley: “Yes, I have no hope but in him.”
Charles Simeon: “Then, Sir, with your leave I will put up my dagger again; for this is all my Calvinism; this is my election, my justification by faith, my final perseverance: it is in substance all that I hold, and as I hold it; and therefore, if you please, instead of searching out terms and phrases to be a ground of contention between us, we will cordially unite in those things wherein we agree.

    RE Rev 4:1--
Writing about the actual event of the Rapture is different than making a typological reference to the Rapture.
Rev 4:1 definitely REFERS to the Rapture, but only as typology.
It definitely is not the literal Rapture of all the Bride of Christ, as only John is mentioned, no others.
But it IS typology of the Rapture. So it does refer to the Rapture, in my humble opinion.

Just picked this one up after trying it out from the library. I think it pairs good with the MacArthur Commentary. MacArthur hits more heavily on Theology while the Believer's Commentary provides more spirituality and clarity in its commentary, particularly in a Jesus-centered inflection on OT scripture. I very much enjoy it.

@@wolfman7284 Having more than one commentary or study Bible is a good thing because God will lay on the heart of each writer different things. My pastor is David Jeremiah. When he came out with a study Bible, I looked up a passage in it, and the same one in MacArthur's. MacArthur had one line, and Jeremiah had a little paragraph. (Another time MacArthur had a paragraph, and Jeremiah had one sentence.) Together you can get a good and full understanding of a verse or passage. As you noted, a difference between MacArthur and Evans. They all complement each other.

I was raised in church so I'm familiar with a lot of the themes and stories, but have only recently started reading the Bible. God has really been blessing me as of late and I feel it's time I honor him by readying his word. I have been leaning toward the Tony Evans or Warren wiersbe 2 volume. And now he's "stepped down due to an undisclosed sin." And they are talking about reinstating him& doing a church repentance so he can come back... All while keeping this mystery sin a secret from the congregation. He needs to come clean and repent properly before we can move forward with him.

Believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and you will be saved. Thinking about the failure of our churches to influence and worst encourage the strange cultural trends that have influenced the country. we have caved and not take stands on the word, the worship, the pop music, the movies and strange gospels and philosophies that remove sin and hell, the government calling church nonessential could be a reckoning.... It may not be the government saying the church is irrelevant, but God via Rom 13 and Rev 3 saying the church is irrelevant and removing lamp stands..... just thinking. I learned about the Gen-Z “holy bible” and the emoji “holy bible” recently that helped me think this way.

I believe in this. Anything beyond is noise:
_But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord._
      1 Thessalonians 4:13‭-‬17
This states, with clarity to me, that believers in Christ will not be swept away before the antichrist comes to power, but will have to endure that test until the coming of Jesus.
Mathew 24:22 explains that the days of the antichrist reign on earth will be cut short for the sake of the elect, for if they weren't, no one would survive. This proves, to me, even the elect will have to endure the tribulation.
