I've just started bingeing your videos. I know nothing of woodworking or turning wood on a lathe. But I know this, everything you make on this channel is gorgeous!
Wow thanks so much, I really appreciate it 😀
Bingeing. 1:19
Really pleased to see you're being recognized by companies who want to collaborate Mike. It's no surprise as your quality of work is very high but it is well deserved. I look forward to other interesting uses for your wife's kitchen wear as your channel progresses...
Thanks so much Lois, there are a few items I am banned from using again but that's another story 🤣😂
Too much talking !
@@milfordmcveen7423 This channel is probably not for you, all the best, Mike
This takes me back to very close to the beginning days of this channel. Back when there were fewer than 300 people. I’m very happy people have discovered your talents Mike. Your channel has grown and your projects are still top shelf. Hat tip to you my friend.
Haha it took me back as well to those early days. Happy memories but happier now that I get more than 250 views for a weeks work 😂. All the best my friend and I wish you all the best for the new year 😀
that just turned out so well - the resin colours and the way they mixed enhances the burl so well, and omg the shape is so lovely with it. that's a beautiful thing. absolutely stunning the asymmetry of it, is just wonderful. kind of art deco crossed with arts and crafts Japanese influence, gorgeous.
Thank you so much, I gather you like it 😀
@@MikeHolton lols
Beautiful burl & black/copper resin and no bubbles.
You are a real asset to your resin supplier. I have no doubt there will be viewers who will now “have a go” after your excellent guidance tutorial. I will for sure!
As brave and honest an attempt with awesome result as usual.
Thanks 👍
Thanks Nicholas, I sent them the link and they were over the moon with what I had made which is a great relief. There is always a sense of pressure when a company wants to invest in you and you want to do your best to make it work.
Gorgeous result. And I like the talking, hearing what you are thinking and why throughout your process
Thanks Cecilia , so glad you enjoyed it, all the best, Mike 😀
Beautiful how the copper has set within the black. A happy result from the resin accident which could have been disastrous. I have seen other wood and resin turners use silicone sealant to stop any leaks. I love that you share the entire process with us, and show us how you saved the casting. Then turned it into such a gorgeous container. Black and copper with that burl, just beautiful. ❤😊 xxx
Thanks so much Shelley, I always try to show the good and the bad, I did however cut out 15 minutes of me trying to the blank out of the pan 😂
Ha, I have just watched you turning a birl blatter and commented on you only see them as art peaces, I have gone back to the beginning of your programming. I have learnt a lot, your a great teacher. Keep up the good work.
Cool, thanks John 😃
This channel gets better and better
I think I love you lol😀
That pot is a stunner Mike! Congratulations.
Thanks so much John 😀
That is stunning Mike! Beautiful colours that match that burl and make it sing! Love it!
Thanks so much Donna 😀
I really appreciate this video. I watch a lot of woodworking videos, and to see that your prep "went south" and how you dealt with it - including destroying the cook pot -- makes me realize there is hope for my starting this project. Thank you.
Adapt and overcome as they say. I try to keep my videos as real as possible showing all the ups and downs as we all learn from both. You only stop learning when you stop trying. All the best, Mike 🙂
That is a beautiful piece. I was surprised not to see bubbles in the resin. Especially since you did not use a pressure pot.
There were some micro bubbles hard to see on camera but it did do well 😃
The copper in black is beautiful. I did not expect it to show up as distinctly as it has done.
Happy New Year!
Thanks Dave and after the start I did not think it would either.
When I saw you getting it out of the pan and having to resort to the grinder I laughed out loud because it reminded me of me.
Haha thanks Mike, happens to me all the time lol 😀
I just found your channel. Such beautiful workmanship. It challenges me to think of a craft that I could work on for the golden years of my life. 🥰
Thanks Glenda, it is never too late to take up a hobby, I've only been doing this for less than 3 years 😀
I'm thrilled you might be working more with resin! I love wood+resin.
Georgious project.
Me too, and this resin seems to nice to work with 😀
Piece turned out really great. Can't help but think wife was not too proud of you for taking it in the house:). Always enjoy your turnings.
Haha she is used to it by now plus it was in my office so well out her way 😀
Really excellent result. Resin seems very forgiving
Thanks, it is not bad at all, I have had some that can shatter like glass but this was beautiful to turn!
It is absolutely
Beautiful, I love the separation between the black and the copper. It just it makes it with that burl It's just gorgeous.
Thanks so much Jodi 😀
When you splashed the resin and said, “What an idiot,” I laughed out loud because that’s exactly what I say when I do something like that. Great video. Happy New Year!
Haha thanks Terry, I have great fun at my own expense 😊
The lure of hot glue and resin. Everybody forgets cutting resin is an exothermic reaction, and hot glue melts when it gets hot.
Yes, I was lured in once, too. Glad you saved it!
Haha I know, I will only make that mistake once 😀
Wow! Another beauty, the copper shows up lovely.
Thank you kindly David 😀
Mike, it's an absolutely stunning masterpiece. I'm hardly into resin, but the cloudy marble pattern makes it worth using. Best cookie box I've ever seen! And very pleased to see companies getting interest in your work. At last they have a taste for real talents. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much András, that is very kind of you to say, all the best for the new year, Mike 😀
The copper and black resin is so striking. When you were working on it I couldn't see the copper at all. But the finished product is a winner
Thanks so much Judith, I love the way it came out 😀
The bowl turned out so great
Thanks Barbara 😀
❤❤I appreciate how you adapt, improvise and bounce with the curve balls!❤❤ It's beautiful
Thanks Audie, I do my best to adapt and overcome 😂
A fascinating project! A triumph from an uninspiring outset - excellent viewing
Thanks so much James 😀
I really enjoy your content. You make beautiful pieces without the nonsense.
Thank you very much, so nice of you to say.
10 out of 10 from the Southend-On-Sea judge🏆
Haha thanks Chris 😄
I've started binging your videos and loving each one.
Every project you create demonstrates something new to the viewers, be it a beautiful timber, unique design or approach.
Walking us through your thought process is and explanation of why you went on one direction rather than another is fantastic.
Starting to think wood turning could be something I seriously consider trying.
Keep up the awesome work!
Awesome, thank you Michael, I really try to make people feel they are stood next to me and we are just having a chat 😀
What a nice looking pot. Would look good with Biscuits in on a sideboard. Lovely colours and fantastic match between the Resin and the wood. Well done Mike.
Thanks peter, if I put biscuits in there it would certainly be a good test of its durability the way I go through them 😀
Wow, beautiful, I love the black with the copper, and the burl is gorgeous
Thanks so much Rena 😀
This turned out absolutely beautiful. I did get a laugh at you trying to get it out of the pot. I was imagining myself trying to remove it when you brought out the angle grinder. Forget saving the pot. I want it out! Great job.
That was funny
Thanks so much, it was taking a while and I did cut about 15 minutes of footage of me hitting it in various ways. 😂
Brilliant! I'm glad you showed us the inside.
Thanks James, I had to, it looked amazing! The best inside I think I have ever done 😀
A messy beauty right there.❤
Haha thanks Tracy, it did get a bit messy 😀
The copper is a nice touch. Beautiful!
Thanks so much Joyce 😀
absolutely beautiful! I love the black and bronze combination.!
Thanks Linda, glad you enjoyed it 😀
What a beautiful combination of colours.
Thanks so much John 😀
That is a stunning bowl, and the resin looks like a great product.
Thank you very much, it worked perfectly!! 😀
And yet another beautiful piece, thanks Mike!
Thanks 😀
Glad it “turned” out ok. Very nice project.
Haha thanks! 😀
Very nice project Mike. I love the subtlety of the copper in the black.
Thanks so much 😀
Wow what a beautiful job Mike. Going by the videos that I have watched of your work I am not surprised that companies are showing an interest in working with you. I think that your work deserves any company recognition that comes your way. I am surprised that they are not 'lining up to bash down your door', any support will help you grow your channel. Stunning piece. Cheers mate, Don from South Australia.
Wow, thank you Don, I have had another company wanting me to have a go with their tech to see what I can do with it and the results will be out in about 5 weeks. 😀
That's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
Thanks so much 😊
I just watched two of your videos and I enjoyed them immensely. I'm not a woodworker but I really enjoy watching extremely talented woodworkers and their videos. Quite entertaining. That's an amazing gift you have there my friend. Thank you for the great video. I do want to try my hands at a resin project so I will keep your sponsor in mind. Be safe!
Thank you very much and thanks so much for watching! I love what I do and hope it comes across in my work and videos 😀
What a stunning piece Mike. I’ve never really been keen on resin work but seeing what you’ve done here will make me consider trying it at least once.
Thanks Louis, see if you can make less of a mess than me 😊
@@MikeHolton 🤣
Just stunning.
Thanks Kurt 😀
This was mesmerizing and the final product is just beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much Scott ☺️
That is awesome, love the wood color with the copper added to the black resin
Thanks Kennedy, I'm really happy with this one 😀
I like the contrast between the light and dark. The product must be great as a lot of videos with resin show using a vacuum or pressure pot to avoid the bubbles. It makes me interested if I don't need further expense of buying one. Keep up the very interesting videos. I look forward to seeing your excellent informative videos.
Thanks Paul, I try to keep what I do attainable for everyone without having to spend a fortune.
Very nice piece Mike. Most interesting is that you finished the inside first and then moved to the exterior. Quite contrary to most projects I see. Thanks.
Thanks Jim, it's just the best way to make a pot. You need to have the inside finished so you can bring the two parts together and make them fit.
Beautiful work! A pleasure to watch you turn your work
Thanks so much Ken 😀
The bowl looks terrific. I appreciate the stills which show off the grain so well.
I have not done a resin project like this, but my take-away is "Plan for a leak". I have seen other videos where folks use a cheap plastic container. The container is always too large, so consumes a LOT of resin which gets wasted.
I did get a smile from the piece of hanger used as a mixer. I knew what could likely happen, and it did. Oops.
Very good initial judgement on the resin volume, now if only "Murphy" had stayed away.
Very well done as usual.
Dave.
Thanks so much Dave, I did try to look for a container but nothing was available, I'll try and develop a stash of them for future projects 😊
Very nice execution
Copper on black is top notch 👌
Thanks so much Doron 😀
Truly fantastic piece! I love the way you kept the finished interior out of sight from us while you got on with the rest of it. I'm surprised that the colours in the resin stayed almost separate. Lovely effect.
My only negative - that finial!
haha thanks Shaun, only the second finial I've ever made, would you have preferred it shorter, taller or non existent 😀
Shorter finial I think, Mike. @@MikeHolton
@@shaunbutler8481 thanks for replying, the next one I do will be shorter
That was an excellent video Mike you overcame the little setback and made another stunning bowl.
Thanks so much my friend, all the best for the new year 😀
@@MikeHolton To you and the family also.
Glad you have turned another resin piece it is something I really enjoy seeing and after watching yours it is spurring me to have a try once I get my workshop put together love it
Thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed it and there will be more coming soon 😀
Beautiful bowl and lid is super cute and unique!
Thanks Deborah, I do love this one 😊
Beautiful piece. It gives me a boost to strive for better turning in my own creations!
Thanks my friend, if I can do it, you can 😀
Hi Mike. I do hope that you and your family are having a wonderful holiday season. The wind sounds like what we get here in the Ozarks that comes off the flat prairies' lands to the west. The resin pot sure turned out looking nice. The use of resin is new to me, so thank you for introducing me to this art form. This is really a good way to use a small piece of wood and turn it into a larger item. I will be looking forward to what you dream up for this new year's videos. Also, your invention of the little light attachment was ingenious. Now all of us viewers can see clearer also. Thanks.
Thanks Wes, this was my first resin project for about 6 months and I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out. The light worked great, now we can all see what's going on, me included 😂
A bit of a liner and that would make the BEST ice bucket!
I think you are right 😀
The finished product looks beautiful 😍😍
Thanks so much my friend 😀
A great striking piece, I do like the resin colour combo, I haven’t seen you work with resin before . What a pleasing jar . Thanks for another educational video.
Thanks so much Bev, it's about 6 months since I did my last one, if you look on my playlists you will see a few 😀
Hi Mike as always you have produced a spectacular piece. The colours really compliment each other with the burl. I was impressed when you said you had not used a pressure pot because the finish from the mold once you turned of the plastic was amazing no bubbles. You certainly boosted my confidence in perhaps trying a pour some time, now I know you don't need a pressure pot. Thanks for the video and the spectacular piece looking forward to the next one.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you so much, this resin in nice and thin so bubbles have a lot time to escape and get into all the cracks. If your wood is very porous then seal it first with either resin or wood glue, this will stop a lot of air coming out the wood while it is drying. 😀
Hi Mike thanks for the added tip.
Always learning in Woodturning.
@@RoyWCanada that is one reason I love it so much 😁
Came out beautifully!! 😍
Thank you!! 😊
Stunning!
Thanks Vernon 😊
this is lovely, but i do feel bad for that pot :) wonderful job, and so glad there were no bubbles - that is some good resin!
Thank you Dee 😊, the resin is amazing but I will be getting a pressure pot soon
Oh my goodness! I can’t imagine a better choice of resin colors. I just can’t! So beautiful all of it.
Thanks so much Mary 😀
I don't know how you didn't end up hypnotized while this was spinning. The patterns were mesmerizing while it was a at speed. Love the contrast between the wood and the resin and the copper swirl looks fantastic. Must look amazing in person.
Thanks so much, it looks so much better in person, in the daylight the colours are just amazing, all the best, Mike 😊
A beautiful creation, Mike. The resin turned out wonderfully, and with no bubbles! The resin colors and swirls make an excellent contrast to the burl, which is beautiful on it's own. As always, a very interesting (and tightly edited) journey watching and listening as you create this piece. Well done!
Thanks so much especially the comment about the editing, this one took me 8 hours to edit! All the best, Mike 😀
Nicely done, Mike!
Thanks Shak 😀
Amazing project! Glad to find there is someone else who is learning how to clean up resin spills and leaks.🤥
Haha I always make a mess somehow 😀
Very nice lidded bowl. I am a big fan of resin/wood turnings.
So glad to hear it as more will be coming 😀
Just wanted to let you know that I finally got around to setting up my lathe. Was shocked to find out that turning is even more relaxing than watching you do it 😅
So far, ive made 2 handles for my router base plate, 2 tea light holders and a bowl, as well as whittling 5 bowl blanks down to nothing and scaring myself half to death a good ten times when the tools bounced 😂.
But when you get into the groove with it and theres a steady stream of shavings bouncing off your visor... ♥️😍❤
And now you are hooked! It really is a great feeling when the cuts are smooth and leave a beautiful surface, nothing quite like it. Send me your address to 'mike@mikeholton.net' and I'll send you a nice blank to play with. All the best my friend, Mike
Very interesting. It turned out to be a cute canister.
Thank you! 😊
one day in perhaps a hundred years I will be able to turn something as amazing as that. Thank you for bringing such things to the world.
Just take it one step at a time, if you make a mistake just keep going, you will get there 😀
Awesome as always Mike, it’s mad how resin always finds a way out no matter how much glue/sealant is used! Might be worth getting a small selection of different sized buckets or tubs
Haha you are so right Matt and I have already started collecting tubs of all kinds 😅
@@MikeHolton I’ve just had a set of Axminster gouges for Xmas, I’ve only done spindle turning of snowmen, Xmas trees and spinning tops until now, so time to take it to the next step with the bowl gouges.
@@mattTAPPO They do take some getting used to but it really is worth the effort 😀
Super cool. The way the copper blended into the black is just stunning, and that is without even mentioning the gorgeous wood.
Thanks so much 😊
She’s a beaut. 💯
Thanks my friend 😊
This burl was the perfect choice for this piece. And the copper and black work well together. Beautiful!
Thanks so much Charmain 😀
Very lovely pot. Dark resins, especially simple black, seem to provide the best contrast with the wood, highlighting its grain and enhancing the beauty of this piece.
Many thanks Joel, I like the way the colours came out on this 😀
Fun project! And the bowl turned out just amazing. Love the colours. ❤
Thanks so much Tricia, I really love the way this one came out 😊
Another piece well done !!! Just Lovely?!!
Thank you! Cheers Diane 😀
That's a beautiful piece, Mike. Thank you for sharing your project.
Glad you like it, all the best, Mike 😀
Beautiful piece. Fun watching the progress and techniques.
Thank you very much Joyce 😊
Mike watching you has inspired me. I bought the Record Power Cornet Herald and just received it along with a Record Power 3" wood chuck. Tomorrow my carbide tools will be here and I hope to start learning the wood lathe. I have been a wood carver of spirits for 3 years and air brush/aerosol painter for a few months. The lathe will add to my craft and art. Thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your great talent.
That is awesome and well done for trying something new, I'm looking to try carving and am buying an airbrush kit soon to have a go with 😀
@MikeHolton If you can get the Foredom SR carver with flex shaft I would. You can also run it in reverse(handy for leftys). It has all the power in the world. It is brute. I will get you the info on my airbrush kit and guns.
Thanks, that is a nice looking machine! I have saved it and will do some proper investigations, thanks so much@@rockybosarge
This is my new favorite. Beautiful work!
Thanks Mega, I think it is in my top 3 😀
Awesome project, Mike! I enjoyed watching your creativity take a 3-D shape from an unusual piece of wood; well done!!
Thank you very much, I had great fun with this one and can't wait to do another 😀
Thst is absolutely gorgeous. ❤❤🎉🎉
Thank you Karen 😊
Very stylish result. It reminds me a lot of Japanese laquer work.
Thanks Ben, I know exactly what you mean 😊
I feel your pain, Mike but it ‘turned’ out beautiful. I always curse myself when I don’t wear gloves when using a hot glue gun and I love seeing ribbons of resin all over - someone else. I’ve just spent two days with my English family and looking forward to my French family arriving Thursday. Happy new year to you and yours 🌞
Thanks so much Ray, I never manage to get through a resin project without making a mess lol. Have a great time with your family, all the best, Mike 😊

Thanks so much Debra 😀
What a beautiful piece Michael! Truly beautiful..
Thank you kindly Patricia 😊
Outstanding!
Thanks Harry 😀
I love the copper swirl you managed to achieve despite the difficulty you had, it is fabulous. Only downside is the finial, a little long for the piece in my opinion but otherwise, the choice of simple finish works really well
Thanks Damian, and you are the fourth person to comment on the finial so I guess next time it will be shorter 😊, all the best, Mike
