This 1972 version of the Moonglows features Bobby Lester catching all of Harvey Fuqua's vocal licks from the original, and adding a few of his own patented moves.
The Moonglows sang with a unique style of harmony that distinguished them from all other Doo Wop groups. This song when released in the late fifties drew much attention from the Rhythm & Blues community of listeners. The Moonglows were viewed as the premier Doo Wop group.
This song happens to be one of my favorite of all time I'm only 53 this song was released before I was even born and I find myself seeing this song all the time and it makes me so happy inside just to sing it! These guys voices are extraordinary Bobby Lester sounds just like he did on the record when it was released back in the day even though this is in 1972 this video here Lord have mercy this was a beautiful song I wish I could share with the whole world
Just great music. Mr Lester will go down as one of the all time greats of doo wop.I thank God for letting me live through the doo wop era.Future generations don't know what they missed.
Sorry, jestal, but it indeed IS Bobby Lester. Harvey Fuqua did the lead on the studio recording. As I mentioned in my uploader notes, Bobby recreates Harvey's licks and adds a few of his own. In fact, Harvey was conducting the band off camera on this performance.
Thanks for your reply and clearing that up. I am a tremendous fan of the Moonglows, and I think Bobby Lester was one of our great doo wop singers. Harvey Fuqua has so many talents, along with having kept the group going after Bobby Lester's passing.
I can't get enough of Bobby Lester and the Moonglows, this people, is when singing was singing, not like the crap they are playing today. Thank you sooo much for the post , and the memories & that was Bobby L singing, not Harvey Fuqua, although both sang this track beautifully.
I have always thought that Bobby Lester had one of the best voices ever in the R&B genre. Thank you for putting this out there. Just curious.....where was this performance filmed?
Yes. This is definitely Bobby Lester...they may both be comparable vocalists, but they look nothing alike...not sure how anyone could mistake this for Harvey Fuqua.
I think you missed the point. They've ALL passed away. The discussion had to do with who was doing the lead on this 40-plus year-old video. And there's no controversy any longer. It's not Harvey (who died only a couple of years ago) It's Bobby (who died some 30 years ago).

Now this WAS AND IS SINGING. No echo, reverb, or studio with "bells & whistles" to enhance the sound. Just PURE VOICE.(s)
Bobby Lester is unparalleled - he remains one of the best tenors out there, IMO.
13 Dislikes? Are you kidding me?There should be a LOVE button!

Even when they pass away but their songs will last for years to come.
Bobby Lester was great and he died way too young in 1980 at the age of 50.That unique "Moonglow sound" was superb. What beautiful harmony they created!
Amen!
Blow harmony
One commandment for all doowopers! Don't forget the beauty of this song and those who sang it!
I KNOW I'M BEING REPETETIVE BUT I LIKE TO GIVE CREDIT TO BOBBY LESTER. HE HAD A GREAT VOICE. RICH
The singer's presence is just cool. Not fake, real cool. He IS the real deal.
I'm so glad someone decided to remember they were Bobby Lester's moonglows and not Harvey and the moonglows. either way the music is still great
Harvey was an original moonglow

Bobby did a pretty good job. I saw Harvey with the Moonglows on TV and now that I have watched this video, Bobby did sound like Harvey.

Real singing right there. Unlike today's jokers

@jamesbrown823 It was recorded for a local New York tv show. I don't know the exact location, though.
Just a note to all who think this is Bobby Lester singing the lead. It is Harvey Fuqua.
Joyce Stalhut sorry it's bobby
Definitely Bobby, not Harvey on this video!
Not a chance this is Harvey Fuqua. THIS is Bobby Lester singing and showing on video above.
@vodkamarie These guys didn't need "autotune", either! Not like most of today's so-called "artists".
ROYALTY
@jamesbrown823 Oh, and for the record, I agree with your assessment of Bobby's voice :)
the rulers!
A Bronx Tail brought me here.
