- The number one question I get about the Gen2 Foil Drive is which motor cable size is best. I try to answer that question here while wearing as much cat hair as I could fit on my shoulder. Both the Slim and Max featured in clips.

But doesn't it also depends on your mast?? I read that on specific masts some pods are specific designed to be placed 25cm below the mast connection. I think this is quitte relevant. Or am I wrong?
After this video was launched, I saw that they were making cable length specific pod inserts to match the mast width at 15,20, 25cm positions. Very relevant. Thanks!

I may have made a few shorts on it when I started, but soon found that if the wind was down, the waves tended to be cleaner. I moved to the ocean on those windless days. I started finding myself on the Foil Drive on more windy days as well. I might start digging into using the Gen2 with a wing again. Great topic idea! Thanks!
Hey William..if im use to having my pod at 15cm using the FD+ am i better to go the 15cm 7:54 or the 20cm on the Gen2?. I mostly sup but want to get into prone with the Gen2. Thanks
The Gen2 might take a bit of getting used to coming from the Plus. It took me a day or two to get it trimmed well and flying right. With that, you may as well use the adjustment period to acclimate to the cable length that makes most sense for your riding style. The differences between 15 and 20cm are subtle. If you rarely use the motor, then go 15cm. If you uses the motor 50 percent of the time you are riding or more, then 20cm or longer makes more sense.
Great video, Iam currently foiling a 65 cm mast. I ordered a foil drive gen 2 with 20 cm cable. Should I consider a longer mast like a 85 cm to have longer glide?
Thanks for watching! I ride a 75 or 82cm. 85cm will give you more glide, but it is a little more awkward riding at the top of wave with the foil near the surface where it is most efficient. If you are comfortable up that high, then iit offers deeper carves and more glide before the motor hits the water.
what you saying is you cant pump when the foildrive is underneath the water?
You can but it is much more efficiently done with the motor out.
Hi how you fix the remote on the wing handle ??
you can, yes. I like to hold it between my thumb and index fingers and hold the handle with the remaining three fingers. YMMV.
Cant decide between 20 and 25cm. can i just get the 25 cm but tape it in a way to work as a 20cm Or better to just pay for the length you need later.
In a blind test, I don't think I could tell the difference between 20 and 25cm. I could probably tell the difference between 15 and 25cm heights. There really isn't much wiggle room to store extra cable length at the end. Buy what you are comfortable with. I would be happy riding any of the 3 sizes as my one and only.
its a total BS marketing ploy that's really lame just make it adjustable (retractable) or include all lengths w kit
I don't see retractable, but multiple cable lengths on a single motor seems more reasonable with the space concerns. Marketing BS? Nah. I know these guys. They are straight shooters. 🤙
