The Ford government is set to increase the speed limit on hundreds of kilometres of its highway network, including large portions of the 401. Brandon Rowe reports.
Speed limit on the infamous Coquihalla Highway in BC is 120km/h in the summer. A winding highway through the mountains has a higher speed limit than a flat, straight highway in Ontario.
If they raise the speed limit to 110KM and have more enforcement for people going over the limit will they also have more enforcement for people going way below? I can't count how many times I have driven up on a person going 60-70KM on the 401. If it is dangerous to be going 30km faster than traffic because there is less reaction time etc vs the cars around you then it is just as dangerous to be driving 30km under the limit because cars around you have the same less time to react (same 30km differences in speed etc to change lanes in etc). Going 110km instead of 100km is far safer then the i$diot going 60km in a 100km zone.
A few suggestions to make traffic flow better. Left lane is for passing only with strict police enforcement. Each lane needs to be a minimum speed (in good weather and good conditions). For example, right lane is minimum 100 km/h, the lane to the left of that one, 110, the next one to the left 120, etc. Timid drivers need to stay off highways. Trucks must stay in the right lane.
Already have 110km/ h in many areas the 400 notrth, Parry Sound and 404 north of East Gwillimbury traffic flows so much better and people still go about 120. Not the 150 plus that politicians were saying was going to happen if the limit was raised.
No matter the cause, accidents claim more lives at higher speeds . That's one reason people like D. Ford drive BIG suv's . Cruising at 130 km. seems like you are doing 80 km. I will also stick to the gas guzzlers for that extra margin of safety . And the 40km limit in cities is a joke , most will still do 60 km.
This is absurd....im sorry! But this makes no difference in any way people already drive like insane people....its just going to cost taxpayers a ton to change a few pointless signs!
Raising the speed limit will be a disaster. No matter what speed limit is, people will always drive faster, and this will cause more accidents and fatalities due to aggressive drivers. Especially during winter season or bad weather conditions.
There isn't a problem with higher speed in German and Norway. You can go 150km on some highways. They have snow, too. The only factor I see is that Canada has diversity.
GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE IF YOU'RE NOT PASSING!!!!!!!!!!
Need to lower the limit in Markham and Brampton. Actually, they shouldn't even be allowed to drive.
The WEF is looking to make that happen across the board.
@@MrAtomicBulldog As long as it is those imports that aren't allowed to drive, I'm all for it.
@@tylerdurden8378 that is an odd way of telling everyone you are a racist pile of dog $hit.
Wait..... they 're lowering the speed to 110 KM ?
you wont notice anything ... its no big deal . its jammed all the time
Just make it 120 km
So wii people now drive 130?
129.

Lol the way everyone drives, you'd think the minimum speed limit was already 120 ... when you're able to even reach that speed :P

It needs to be at least 120
Thats a good thing, raise the speed limit on the most dangerous hiway in North America, populated by the worst drvers in Canada.
Driving life increase to 110 km/hr
When can we see autobahn speeds?
When we visit Germany.
It won't affect much. It'll just legalize what people are already driving. Hardly anyone drives 100kmh.
Just another way for the province of Ontario to collect taxes the faster you go the more feel you use
Instead of raising speed limit just lower speeding fines
Raise it to 120kmh and then double fines for people doing 130 and above!
Speeding is a major factor in traffic deaths and injuries.
No, varying speeds are
Distracted driving is actually

Yeah, more accidents will happen, more worse drivers will come up , whom will you blame ?
THATS WHAT WE NEED

It`s been 110 in Alberta for 50 years.
Bad drivers, not speed, cause accidents.
@darek9754 That's funny, I hear on the news many times and from the police and a lot of times, they say speed was the main factor for the accidents.
We need deportations.
About time
I hope the person who passed this law doesnt get into an acc8dent on the way to work on the most dangerous highway .... Four Oh None
the most dangerous highway in North America is I-95. But you keep being a little drama queen.
