Nice job with the Restoration and Presentation, A rare thing on this UT junk yard! I subscribed because of the quality and obvious intelligent design of your offering. I hope you have more on this genre of truck but if not I perceive there is something to be learned here. I have a 1990 K2500 ext. cab 4x4, it is in pretty good condition with 179k on it. The guy I bought it from had nearly zero mechanical ability, but had the maintenance taken care of by a handful of mechanics and oil change shops so it has lacked the TLC a hands on owner would have given it. I'm seriously taking mine back to a daily driver status ' cause I love these old Chevys. He had moved up here to the Pacific NW from Idaho and his last mechanic was apparently a scammer. As I was doing my preliminary walk around in the 'buying' process, he was telling me how it ran rough sometimes and just as my eyes lit on the TBI sticker. on the tailgate, he said his new mechanic said it needed a new carburetor. . . and he didn't want to put the $800 + into this old truck. . . so I bought it for $800. The interior is as clean as a pin and the iron is all straight. I fixed that rough running issue by timing it properly, (the dist. lock bolt was loose), and replaced the mass air sensor. Anyway I'll shut up and check out your library.

Sweet!
I'm having an issue with the oil gauge, first it was showing low and the light would turn on so I got a new oil pressure sensor and oil sending unit and now it reads all the way to the top but it will move back about a 1/4 inch if I let off the gas and the temp gauge don't work either but when I twist the key off it moves to the center so I'm thinking about replacing both of them and hopefully that helps, right now there are 3 or 4 in the junkyard and I may just buy them all. Your video was very helpful, Thank You
Try replacing the gauge first. Or the Coolant Temp Sensor. These trucks have all kinds of gremlins. Mine was no different. :(
Ugh... have a 1989 K1500 Scottsdale that the speedo keeps dropping out. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. You think its a gouge issue or motherboard issue?
Hard to say. It could be either. All of these components are pretty easy to find on eBay though.
no it is in the transmission
Did you ever fix your oil gauge?
Hello I have a 1992 GMC Sierra 2500, the cluster doesn’t read the rpms or mph, I believe electricity still runs thru it but it doesn’t read, can you tell me how to fix it and what would I need to repair?
Replace the whole assembly, most likely. Unless you see any broken solder points on the circuit board of the assembly. Then maybe you can resolder.
@@HorsepowerHouse where can I buy the assembly?last time I checked the back doesn’t look burnt or broken, but I haven’t opened the inside yet tho
@@chadmaster8141 Get a good used on eBay or a junkyard.
I have a 1992 gmc Sonoma my odometer and trip mile meter not working. Can it be fitted or do I need a new one? Thanks.
The odometer and trip meter can be replaced. But I wouldn't call it easy to do. I would rather just replace the entire assembly. It is much quicker and easier. Either eBay or a junkyard.
@@HorsepowerHouse was just about to ask this thanks for the info
Great video! I have a question regarding the oil pressure gauge. Where you able to fix yours or replace it? I have a 1990 c1500 and i have the same issue with the gauge just slid all the way to the top and doesn’t give the correct reading. I’m thinking of just buying the replacement gauge but I’m not sure if you were able to fix it that way ? Thanks in advance for your response
I would check the actual oil pressure switch/sensor at the engine first. It might be old, crusty, faulty, poor connection, bad wiring at the sensor. Check that first. Sure, the gauge itself MIGHT be bad but it is quite an ordeal to swap it out. So, check the other end of the issue first. Let us know what you find out. And we have tons of other videos about this truck that might help you. Been through pretty much EVERYTHING one can go through with this thing.
What did you figure out?
I dont know if is a thing whit the year or something like that but all my gages on my old one work except the miles & the trip so I change the odometer from the one I got in the junkyard to mines & even the plug that goes to the board was different but I manage to change the whole thing & it work on my old cus the 1991 does change it was scary my truck was perfectly fine b4 so I got it back to where it was 😁
1989-1991 only for these
Where else can I buy decent gauges or cluster for a 1988 k2500 or is eBay my best bet?

Where did you get the gauges?
I have a bunch of them. Some from junkyards. Some Craigslist. Anywhere used stuff is sold
auto wrecking yard is the cheapest and easiest way to get them.
My fuel gauge keeps bouncing around. It stays on full all the time
