    Hello, I wanted to post my experience because a lot of people are coming down on you. So, this was my experience changing my BCM on my 2011 Chevy Impala. I purchased a used BCM, part number was correct. Took my lower dash apart and unplugged the 7 couplers that jack into the BCM. Then I placed the car key in the ignition and turned it on. Then I hot swapped the BCM by plugging in the couplers. As I did the lights on the dash came on. Then after all the couplers were plugged in, I started my car and as it ran all the lights on the dash came on, such as traction control, ABS, Stability Track error and so fourth. As the car ran, the lights turned off. I kept the car running for about 12 minutes. Turned it off because one of my concerns was the anti theft system. Everything worked fine, I checked it with my Tech 2 program, anti theft system was working, my FOB to open/lock doors, pop trunk, and auto start vehicle worked. The mileage carried over from the original mileage. Drove the vehicle for 50+ miles if any learning was needed. It actually worked, I have to say I was surprised. That was my experience, thank you for coming up with the idea.

    I am an ASE certified mechanic. You are absolutely wrong. You didnt program a thing. You got a used BCM that was already programmed. Thats why the mileage is different. Thats the mileage of the car it came out of. NEW BCM comes from the factory WITH NO SOFTWARE AND MUST BE PROGRAMMED BY A CANBUS DUAL BAND PROGRAMMER. PLEASE STOP SPREADING BAD INFO CAUSE YOU KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. BTW CHANGING ANY ELECTRICAL COMPONENT WHILE THE BATTERY IS CONNECTED LET ALONE RUNNING... IS DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE MAJOR COMPONENT DAMAGE.

    FROM A LICENCED REGISTERED MECHANIC AND GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT THE BCM "Remove and install a BCM body control module
    All repair procedures tell you to disconnect the battery cables first. Well, this time they mean it. NEVER disconnect or connect a BCM body control module with the battery cables connected. You can damage other electronic components connected to the sensitive data bus and you can even blow out the new parts. The hardest part of the job, aside from finding it, is figuring out how to remove the electrical connector locking latches. Once you figure that out, just remove the connectors and remove the BCM."

    I'm trying to get factory cruise control I added to my 2000 SL2 working. I'm a Saturn Forum member and get so many answers that a Swap is all I needed to have the cruise enabled. Did the swap, and now "No Start !" I believe it's a security issue and I also believe I was told wrong that this procedure works just swapping the BCM that was from a Donor W/Cruise option. O.K., If all of you Genius's out there that put other peoples comments down, how is this done then ?! If a lot of You know about car's so much and how this works, how do You enable the Cruise after all the parts are connected ?! Let's see how many of You can give the correct advice. The Forum states "IT CAN BE DONE !" Let Me know, then. We'll see. Most Dealers said they can't enable it because of the age, or say there's no guarantee it'll work, You pay the $135 either way. Lol, I don't think so. We'll see which way is correct, here.

      Jim halcom you are 100% correct sir! That guy shouldn't be making videos. He is endangering everyone who follows his bad advise to try to save a few bucks. Years ago I watched some air bag test videos and have since changed how I work on vehicles. I use a tool cart or magnetic tray under hood and never set things on the front fenders or radiator support to prevent dropping a tool and setting off a crash sensor. Also I will not move, test or disconnect any air bag connectors under the dash without consulting the repair manual to check the exact procedure on disconnecting that specific cars air bag system. I find so far the connectors are usually yellow and will have vibration locks on them. Those air bag videos show just how much damage air bags can do to people if they go off unexpectedly and your not fully sitting back in a driving position. Great comment. Thanks. Jpol.

    Ever think about the consequences of accidentally setting off the airbag?
    Plugging in the BCM while the battery is hooked up can destroy the Engine control module, and set off the airbag. its like turning off your PC without properly shutting it down. I called my dealer and they told me another airbag and horn switch was 1800 bucks. So I faithfully disonnect the negative side of the battery before doing this work. a broken face and arms if you get in the way of an airbag can run you much higher then 450 plus 150 for programming

    • @danperky4471
      @danperky4471 Před 5 lety +1

    Hey,
    That is not how to program the BCM.
    What you showed was how to get it to keep the theft deterrent and some other settings to remain in memory.
    These are called learns or relearns, not programming.
    Programming involves transferring the data from from the vehicle manufacturer site to the used module or transferring
    from one module to the other using an appropriate hardware devices and software.
    But your video non the less did show a method of how to swap a module, and keep your vehicle running without
    getting into key or theft system problems. At least it so appears on that particular vehicle.
    Definately worth trying and worth while.
    I am not sure but did your vehicle display the original mileage after or that from the used BCM ?

  • @dannys5395
    @dannys5395 Před rokem

    Aaron this is bad information. Not only did you NOT program it you have created many additional issues. Let me go through them.
    1. Your mileage will change to whatever the used module had on it.
    2. You will have the SIR airbag light on and it will not go off. It is programmed with the VIN supplied by the BCM and will NOT transfer as it will give you a configuration malfunction code.
    3. Information on tire size is stored in it. If different than yours, your speedo will be off.
    You did nothing more than install a used BCM. These BCM specific to the Saturn car line are also a ONE TIME ONLY programming. To make this work you HAVE to have a new BCM that must be programmed with SPS/TechLine Connect. As to a no start with the security light on that is an easy fix w/o tools using the 30 minute relearn. In addition you will need to program you key fobs as they are part of the RCDL that communicates with the BCM and the FOB codes are stored in the BCM.

    I do appreciate you trying to help others that have no idea where to start, but you really need to have a finished conclusion in order to sell your fix. Otherwise, you just come off as another person trying to get views. Someone in here does unplug the battery and puts it right back in, and the problem is solved temporarily, but perhaps if they waited 24 hours it would have stayed fixed. Their solution had not reached a finished conclusion either. Funny how haters in here can be so rude, yet they don't have the answer or even a guess.

There is a video on how to reprogram your own key fobs for free in your driveway in 5 minutes, or take it to a locksmith and they can do it for far less than a dealership, or take it to a dealership where they will gladly steal your money with a smile on their face.
