  • So today, I've got to replace this consumer unit to make space for the new electric vehicle charging point, and also the new hob circuit
Also part of this job, we're going to be installing some new downlights to replace the old centre lights and we're gonna show you how we go about installing those without lifting floor coverings and floor boards above.
So one of the comments I get quite regularly is why are you using a impact driver in the consumer units?
Now to answer this, simply I'm not the tool I use is a very low Power Combi drill with torque settings that can be turned, turn down so low that it literally pinches the cable ready to use a torque screwdriver to talk the terminals inside the consumer unit to the manufacturers settings
I hope you enjoy this video, and you've picked up a few hints and tips along the way. Please make sure you subscribe to the channel and join us for part two of the video when we install the new electric vehicle charging point and hob circuit. Let's hope the weather is much better than it's been today.

After fitting many consumer units throughout my career I have never been so in awe of the mains unit you installed here to actually find and fit blue tie wraps on your blue rcbo flying leads blew me away. 😂😂😂

I started as a Spark in the 90's and trust me neat fuseboards tidiness like today were not a thing, it's a FB no one sees it. Social media has this thing about showing masterpiece tidy FB's and I think Why, as long as it's not a total bird nest and it's easy to test now and the future move on.

Agree, I have been to some very good looking consumer units.... Only to find the buggers have cut the damn cables short so now I need to extend half of them.. Any cable should have the length to go anywhere in the board and about 2 inches beyond... Bet none of the instagram ready boards can do that.. Just zoom in on the cpc's, they barely make it.. Now lets say for some reason you need to move the right hand rcbo to the far left of the board, that cpc will not be long enough, nor will likely the neutral or line... Give some consideration to the next guy..
