CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Viper (Tom Skerritt) likes Maverick's (Tom Cruise) arrogance.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Devil-may-care navy pilot Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is sent to Miramar Naval Air Station for advanced training. Here he vies with Tom Kasansky (Val Kilmer) for the coveted "Top Gun" award. When not so occupied, Mitchell carries on a romance with civilian consultant Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis). Shaken up by the death of a friend, Mitchell loses the Top Gun honor to Kasansky. Worried that he may have lost his nerve, Mitchell is given a chance to redeem himself during a tense international crisis involving a crippled US vessel and a flock of predatory enemy planes. The story wasn't new in 1986, but Top Gun scored with audiences on the strength of its visuals, especially the vertigo-inducing aerial sequences. The film made more money than any other film in 1986 and even spawned a 1989 takeoff, Hot Shots. An Academy Award went to the Giogio Moroder-Tom Whitlock song "Take My Breath Away."

All maverick and Iceman hear from instructor is blah blah blah. They're engaged in a who's cooler moment , clearly.
That's the problem my friend. Be water, be water....
I never realized that
@@samgladwell3897 If they were water they wouldn't be alive
And Viper represents what they were, but not how it actually is. In reality it’s terrifying, you see your friends die, and it’s terrible. But the love of flying is what they have in common.
Iceman definitely looked cooler!
goose's fake laugh is so funny
mem7 Goose's laugh is real.
@@KeeferJ no hes being sarcastic you dumbass
TondTheFearsome even the sub titles show goose was laughing sarcastically
So what haha maverick is F-14 tomcat pilot İn the top gun moviw
Chad Cudi you don’t even need military experience to know it was a sarcastic laugh
Iceman's smile after Goose's laugh is a great bit of acting (and directorship), shows that whilst in competition they were on the same team and he found Goose's response funny too. Subtle but great.
I would’ve chuckled at that too lmao
“You kill me, you really do.”
Damn never knew goose could predict the future.
Goose ain’t no daisy
@@mat7083 No daisy, at t'all.
it’s an accident
@@FuckChina. Still killed him
@@quadzilla2665 Mmmmm no. A drunk driver could run someone over on accident. You’d still say a pedestrian was killed by a drunk driver.
The driver had no intent to run a pedestrian over but you’d still say the pedestrian was killed.
Kill: -verb
1. Cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing)
2. Put and end to or cause the failure or defeat of (something)
By definition. Iceman killed Goose. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Their conversation in Top Gun Maverick was heartwarming.
This is a special moment... let's not ruin it.
Felt weird after watching that Val documentary where they didn't really like Cruise on set.
Goose's fake laugh literally made everyone else in the scene laugh and smile for real
I know, right? It's the best laugh ever heard
Iceman is likeable. The way Val played his part, he didnt seem like a bully to me or someone thats a jerk to Maverick. I think its because watching him in Geniuses made me like him as an actor.
@@isabellapierre5977 Their rivalry was a healthy and expected thing given their personalities, but some accidents are just waiting to happen at times. If it wasn't Goose, then someone else would've died in their place and the fallout could've been worse.
I said this on another video. He had the hardest role--he had to be confident and competitive without being arrogant. Not easy. He even had a bit of paternal energy going on: "you are too dangerous, etc," which made you empathize with him. Perfectly executed.
TRUE. You can see he is well-disciplined in what he does. And I loved it when he honestly lectured Mav saying, "It's not your flying that was the problem. It was your attitude. No matter who are with you; you might not like them or they might not like you, but whose side are you on..."
That blonde guy got confidence. I bet he can go far as Commander of Pacific Fleet

I dont know why iceman was showing off that pen trick even though it had no speed gets me everytime 😂
Thought the same thing, but he knows if he drops it he looks like an idiot, if he goes too fast he looks arrogant.
It's probably just his way of training his hand considering his hand staying still would make him feel stiff and also helps him keep concentrated while being silent
It's a habit some people have done before
Guess he didn't feel the... need for speed.
@@guts-141 it was to show he is both a man who uses a pen and a sword. and that his mind is racing even though he is just sitting there quietly

Me too on both hands from watching This
Do that too much and you'll grow hair on your palms.
because of the movie, i learn how to spinning pen when in junior high school😂
I love how maverick just stares at ice like “yeah he’s probably the best but not anymore”
God, Val Kilmer was one of the most beautiful human beings.
That was one handsome man
@@cultmemberr Agreed!
Iceman playing with the pen, controlled, steady and purposeful, just like his flying. Goose said it to Mav in the bar scene "ice cold, wears you down and you lose focus he gets you". Iceman isn't flashy, he's just reliable, studious, safe and consistent every time. Whereas maverick is daring, unpredictable and talented that is why Iceman found him difficult to co-exist with, as he represents too much danger and therefore should have no place in the air. Very well acted by both men.
"I like that in a pilot." Ha ha, see how fast Iceman and Slider's smiles drop and Goose's rises. Best bit in this scene after Goose's laugh.
I was literally about to say the same thing! I only just noticed that glance for the first time now. Iceman has no respect for arrogance because he's a 200% by the book guy. The thought of a cocky swagger-merchant being the class golden boy makes him sick :D
There’s so much testosterone in that room - I lost fifteen pounds, grew an inch, and not balding anymore.

Maverick and Iceman...both the BEST of the BEST❤️❤️ Love Tom Skerritt too.
Hollywood laughing at Goose’s laughing makes the scene extra funny
You mean Wolfman.
Seeing this movie within the overall story that Top Gun Maverick brought, along with all of the callbacks in the scenes and in-film references, is awesome. Seeing Maverick as the student here and then an instructor post-first instructor attempt is perfect
Plot twist: after graduating top gun, they spent the rest of their careers flying UAVs from a dank control room.

Look at that intense gaze Iceman gives Maverick at 1.41 like " who the *** is this arrogant little twirp, he's about to be schooled in flying, how dare he challenge my excellence". That is the very look someone gives another person when he feels threatened. In the end Iceman won the trophy but only because Maverick was in grief period.
The fact that that Maverick took several looks back at Iceman, confirmed that Iceman is actually the alpha in this movie.
Except Iceman also stared jealously at Mav
Lol, Maverick is easily a Charlie. Go-getter that knows when to go outside the lines, easy Charlie.
Iceman is only alpha on paper. But we all know Mav is the real alpha

@@SalemGhassanHanna How? He fired a shot across the bow - 'You better be thinking about *team* ' ... As he already knows Pete isn't a team player.
Goose's laugh makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch it and I love Wolfman literally cracking up in the background 😂😂❤ And Mav's little cute smirk gets me 🥰😍❤️
What I find somewhat funny is how 'rank' means nothing in "Top Gun" and most movies: you can be an O-1/O-2 and talk any way you want to an O-3, for example. I never experienced that - sure, there was joking around but there's a level of respect rendered even if someone is only 1 rank above - even if you're both below 'field grade.'
One reason it’s a movie.😂
I like that in a pilot.
When maverick looks at iceman. Iceman thinks I'm your huckleberry

Iceman low-key ringknocking while disguised with pen twirling was always a nice, subtle detail and masterful touch for me.
Most will see Maverick and Iceman locked in their staredown, but Ice had to add the extra dimension of, "Hey, check me out. What's that on my finger? Oh yeah! My class ring! I not only went to the Naval Academy, I also graduated. And you... didn't! Yeah, that's right. Sorry, not sorry!"
