    8 assassins, except killer croc is dealt with, Electrocutioner doesn’t get a fair fight, and gets axed off, Shiva, DeadShot, and black mask are sidequest. DeadShot, mad hatter are back from Arkham city doing basically the same thing.
    Deadshot’s fight is basically two face’s from the last catwoman section of Arkham city.
    Copperhead fight is basically Ra’s al gul’s shadow clones.
    Joker, as great as his performance is in every Arkham game, once again he hogs the spotlight.
    Yet, I still enjoyed this game.

    • @theAverageJoe25
      @theAverageJoe25 Před 4 lety +13

      PhantomShadow224 actually in Arkham city deadshot and mad hatter are doing what they did in origins, since origins takes place before city

    • @Predated2
      @Predated2 Před 4 lety +5

      Well, not everyone knew the 2 face fight from arkham city, as not everyone played the game of the year section. In my case, I got origins before arkham city GOTY and never played the catwoman section.
      Copperhead is similar to ra's al gul, but a lot less repetitive.
      And it actually felt like Black Mask was the big bad before Joker was revealed. And it makes sense too. I mean, Black Mask putting a bounty on the bat? Didnt feel like something Black Mask would really do. Yet trying to find out why black mask suddenly would do such a thing was actually a great way to "introduce" joker. I mean, lets face it, you cannot have the origins of a lot of bad guys and exclude Joker. But I mean, lets take Asylum. Sure, Joker was the main bad guy there, but over the entire game, he is more of a background character. Ivy and Harley get more screentime in game than Joker
      And even the Riddler, Arkham Origins had a fairly good reason for riddler datapacks, while in the main series, they went kinda overkill with it, but Origins had a fairly well distributed and accesible pool of datapacks. You would either need to backtrack the story there anyway or you already could unlock the tools you needed, while in Asylum, City and Knight, you almost need to cover the entire map 4 times before you have all the necessary tools. I mean, there is "only" 200 riddler datapacks, there were 250-ish collectables for batman(300-ish if you include catwoman) in City and 240 collectables in Asylum, let alone the 300+ collectables in Knight. Origins at least gives you a reason outside of being a completionist to go back to certain area's. Let alone maybe 5 locations. Knight luckily added a system where not all trophies appear at once, meaning you can systematically clear the map before returning, but you still need to return at least 3 times to the same locations.

      @samuraigames4125 Před 2 lety +2

      It's so crazy that origins is my favorite game. It's just too good bro, the boss fights were perfect, in my opinion they portrayed the beginning of batman too well and it was just so perfect, the beginning of batman and how aggressive he is, he is so angry and young. And using roger was the best option for a younger batman, the beginning of a relationship with the villians and batman and them beginning to fear him and especially the relationship with bane or joker with batman. They portrayed the beginning of a great rivalry between joker and batman just too good. And then you can see that the joker will start to know batman better and he knows his weaknesses, like he didn't know that batmam would not kill anyone and he tried to break him. So joker was the best in origins and had the best design as a younger joker. The story was perfect, especially bane and batman and how they knew each other. I love origins and I don't care what anyone says, it is so underrated just because of a stupid reason that rocksteady didn't make it. The Deathstroke and bane boss fights still gives me chills till this day, they don't appreciate this game much. It's definitely top 2. I understand opinions but they really should pay attention to this game more. That mission in the hotel royale is still the best mission in the series. It was perfect how you go from the sewers to the hotel and you do detective and predator stuff and you see the joker scene where he kills electrocutioner and you get his gloves, and you have to make your way up to the hotel, it was perfect. And then going to the bane fight while joker is watching. And you go save joker and actually this game really did the backstory of batman and joker justice. You can see how deep joker is. That's why I just love origins, and to point out origins was the first arkham game I played that's why I love it, it introduced me to the series. And it's the prequel so it was perfect to play first.

      @DegenerateJay  Před 4 lety +91

      Yeah I don't think it helps that the games started off on such a good note with Asylum. Part of the reason that game was so good was the map was small and focused. Everything was meticulous. There's an issue with scope as you make any world bigger and the fact that you can't pump a billion dollars into a game to make the entire world feel alive and make everything perfect in a game as big as Knight. Some studios are better with that sort of thing than others as well. Like the Witcher 3 is massive and has very few things to criticize but even that game isn't actually perfect.

      In regards to Red hood I agree, making him the morally gray character as he is, acting as an obstacle that both challenges Bruce and Batman character arc's rather than an outright villain would of easily given fans and critics something more positive to say about Knight.

    • @DegenerateJay
      @DegenerateJay  Před 4 lety +14

      I think so too on those points. They went a little too far into outright villain due to the characters anger than something like Under the Red Hood did. I feel an adaptation of that into the Arkham series without going the way they did would have been better.

    My only issues with this game were continuity, some of the terrible interior level designs, horribly designed challenge system, lack of innovation, and the fact that Joker took center stage yet again after we were promised Roman Sionis (which wouldn't have been THAT bad if Black Mask would have been given some kind of respectful treatment.)
    I've had a love/hate relationship with it for a long time but I think the love for how fun it is outweighs the hate. It's extremely satisfying to play with a great atmosphere, gorgeously stylistic cutscenes and even decent writing here and there. I still go back to it.

    I have five main grievances with Origins.
    1) The in-game story content in lacking despite having a map twice as large as _Arkham City._ It needed a Season of Infamy DLC pack.
    2) Some details weren't thought out. The police commissioner being killed could easily explain a city-wide curfew but wasn't thought of.
    3) The mook enemy A.I. is too aggressive and will end up crowding around me during fights which made large numbers a mess.
    4) Three assassins were misused. Deadshot and Shiva are not in the main-story and Croc is fought before we know he is an assassin.
    5) Loose ends. Alberto Falcone, Candy, & Tracey got too much focus but nothing was done with them. Not even a side op.

  • @Gravedigga63
    @Gravedigga63 Před 4 lety +2

    I had something of a problem with them not putting a lot of effort into game design and aesthetics to fit it being a prequel. The bat suit looks great, but it looks far more advanced than what is used in asylum, it doesn’t make much sense that he gets such a worse batsuit in the future. Then there’s like the grapnel boost, that was a specific aspect of city, the tech for that is a prototype and it is made clear that city is the first time he’s using it, so it makes 0 sense for him to have it in origins. Of course, that thing is super fun so it’s kind of necessary to have in the game, but they could have had some creative way of implementing something similar, maybe he steals the tech for it off a boss or something, but there’s just no mention. Then there’s the fact that he gets some new gadgets but apparently doesn’t retain them for use in asylum for some reason, the glue grenade for example. His detective vision seemed to have substantially more functionality. In asylum it at best could highlight fingerprints in the environment, but in origins it can like make visual recreations of crime scenes that play out in AR, makes no sense that he loses this ability in asylum. This is kind of an inherent issue with making a prequel of any game. You want the game to feel fresh so you add more advanced mechanics, weaponry, and gadgets, but at the same time the fact that it happens before other games in the franchise means it doesn’t make any sense for it to be that way, so you’re kind of forced to either make the game have less interesting gameplay or do away with an element of realism.

    Funny thing is that in the cinematic trailer of Arkham Origins (Deathstroke fight) when Black mask appears at the end you can hear that his voice is Troy Baker. Which means it's Joker even at this point. You can recognize it because it's exactly hearable that this is Two-Face's "evil side" Voice

And yeah, the whole "Every single person in Gotham is inside for Christmas, and will continue to remain indoors...even the Police won't roam the streets". I like the game and always have, even though I do feel like it has a dead world and is just kind of AC 2.0.
    One thing I wish they would have done a bit more of, if they were going to use the AC map, is let us explore some of those places before they got run down and destroyed. Like, let us track someone down in the building that eventually became Ivy's lair in AC.They did it a bit with the Steel Mill, and I know it'd be hard to let us in all the locations. I wouldn't expect to see the entire museum again, for instance. And you wouldn't want them to overdo it; I just think a bit more of that would have been cool. Half the map was the AC map, sort of, yet they gave us mostly new places to go within that part of the map.

    I didn't mind Black Mask getting written out halfway through the story. I love Black Mask, he's a cool villain, but story-wise it makes sense. I always saw him as a mafia boss who kinda just does his own thing and doesn't actively bother Batman, especially in Arkham version of him. He got his ass beaten by Joker, but then he got his justice, or at least he thought, and being scared of Joker, he decided to go back into doing his own stuff. Batman went after Bane and Joker, because at the core, Arkham games are Batman's stories and he too needed to take care of what threathed him the most at that moment. True, it would be nice to get a side mission after beating the main story or something, but ultimately, I've never minded.

    The problem with the Riddler trophies really traces back to that they didn't understand what they really are. Riddler trophies have three purposes: To reward you for exploring the map, to reward you for mastering your tools in the game, and to be health packs for when the player is a bit low. Arkham City had a few to many because it leaned a bit to hard into the last reason, but it does mean that the player is never going into a fight low on health.
    In Origins they don't heal you, so the ones just sitting out in the open have no real purpose. Which means they need to be restricted to locations that are interesting to get to, or easy to find but locked behind hard challenges. While there are a few hard challenges getting to some of them, most of them are fairly easy and the challenges are repetitive. And with the number of them, there's just to many for them all to be interesting to get to.
    Part of this is actually that the game has the various ranking systems, which were nice - but supplanted some of the purposes for the Riddler trophies, which made them even more pointless.
    So, strip out them being a challenge to get, them being interesting to get to, or them being useful - and they're just there in the game for no real reason.

    It's interesting regarding the Joker because WB Montreal in fact did advertise his presence in the game and how would it be his first encounter with Batman. I don't think they ever said he would only have minimal presence, especially as he kept appearing in trailers too. The bigger problem for me is that Black Mask was barely used after being advertised as main threat. And the first two voice actors that were announced were Roger Craig Smith for Batman and Troy Baker for the Joker, quite before Brian Bloom for Black Mask. I feel that was a teaser on itself because Troy Baker also voices the Joker disguised as Black Mask. All in all, I really enjoyed Joker as a character in this game and I think his scenes are among the strongest in this game.

    I'm sad that Origins was kind of rushed out to fill space between City and Knight, so the devs didn't have time to finish all of their ideas, like how Deathstroke was meant to be a recurring encounter before being beaten later in the game.
    Also, the whole "no one is outside because of a blizzard" angle sounds like an excuse that was added later in development, because Firefly's section of the plot involves a bunch of captive civilians whose cars are clearly all over the bridge. You can't tell me that these are the only people in Gotham who were out during this blizzard. I'm inclined to believe the city probably was going to be more lively originally, but time constraints made it difficult to see that vision through.

It was always just a mad dash to the door and even if you got there first someone else can become them leaving you feeling cheated. All cooperation goes out the door. I think a randomiser should have been used to pick a player to become them or choose the player who has been the most matches without becoming the boss and make them it, that way you will always feel like your're getting a fair amount of time as the big bad.

  • @BEYONDTHESPIDERFILMS
    @BEYONDTHESPIDERFILMS Před 4 lety +1

    To sum up my issues with Origins:
    - Joker. The Joker is a good villain but it wasn't handled very good. They setup Black Mask only to pull the rug out from us and say it was Joker all along. Also the Joker isn't much of an actor, that's more Clayface's stick.
    - Harley Quinn. Totally fucked her up because all we needed to know was done in Asylum. At best this was needless change that hurts the over all lore of the games.
    - Bane. TN1 or Titan was a Doctor Young invention from Asylum. Outside from being based off Bane's venom, it had nothing to do with him. Also recycled Titan mobs.
    - Deathstroke. Great, and well written. However my issues is it's the Ra's al Ghul boss fight from City. Just reskinned and less sand.
    - Riddler. Good and fun but just a bit too much.
    - 2 prison riots in one night. That's a bit much to believe I think.
    - The Storm was a joke of a reason why the NPCs were mostly limited to cops or villains.
    - Graphics somehow look worse than City's. And yes I got them both on PC, and Origins still looks dated by City standards.
    - DLC characters were way too limited. Oh look Bruce Wayne and Deathstroke, which both plays a lot alike.
    - The 5 year gap from Origins and Asylum is dumb. Jim and Babara Gordon's ages alone highlight way this is a problem. Never mind all the Robins too. Dick, Tim, and Jason.
    - Then MY GOD the glitches. Both online and story mode were/are filled with them. Some side missions just break. The AR training was broken. A main quest door wouldn't work in Blackgate at the start of the game. It took about a week for that to be patched. The Worst Knightmare challenges sometimes don't work. You'll do the challenge but the game would count it. This is a problem because some challenges can ONLY be done in certain predator rooms and with autosaves you could ruin a 100% run of the game.
    With all the story issues, there is a reason why people question it's cannonition.

      Technically TN-1 is different from Titan, so it doesn't feel like a too much of a leap that two different people were working on a super steroid at different times.
      Plus some kind of brain damage was necessary to explain why Bane was a dumb thug in the Arkham series.
      Joker was shoehorned in for sure, but he's been that way since Asylum.
      Origins gives him a meaningful character arc and leaves some part of the system he broke into up in the air.
      That makes his scheme slightly more believable than him bypassing the locked down system we see in Arkham Asylum.

    3:13 I've said that Origins should have been a Year One style game set in Batman's early career where he only fought thugs, corrupt cops and gangsters with Black Mask as the main villain and the game being about bringing him down. Joker shouldn't have been in the game at all.

    I got the return to arkham game not even 48 hours ago and already got %100 completed the game with riddler trophies, armadaious diary’s, and all the challenges and stuff within 8 hours and now I want to see how long I would take me to beat origins and beat it with %100 completion if it was for PS4 lol but I loved this game series and all though they’re heavily flawed they are still amazing games that I will always hold a special place in my heart for (I actually got the scarecrow sum with the upside down batman symbol and eyes from arkham asylum tattooed on my arm because he was my absolute favorite version of scarecrow)

    Man. If Origins had the assassins try to sabotage each other, it would sound like an awesome game. Everyone would be part of the story as they would try to one up one another, leading to Batman taking advantage of their distractions. Imagine if Bane’s men would get into a scuffle with Deathstroke.

    So this one is a doozy...
    For us we encountered a major bug after the GCPD servers section. For some reason after the cutscene the autosave feature activated and I waited until it was finished. My friend that bought it wanted to get something to eat so I was like, " Sure whatever; how's Chipotle sound?" So we left after I turned off the game. When we came back and kept playing. Everything seemed to load fine and I was back at the servers in the sewers. Since we already saw the cutscene and knew the bank was the next mission we made our way to the ladder out of the sewers. At this point in the garage a locked door needs to be activated by hacking it. Unfortunately I noticed it was super difficult and the password made no sense but we got passed it. Once outside we went to the bank but couldn't get in the door. (Odd right? I'm sure you see where this is going)
    So we check the objectives and find something super confusing. "Access the GCPD Servers". My dude was like "but didn't we do that already?" I was like, "I thought so bc we saw the cutscene...." So we go back to the garage but the door is sealed shut.(odd) My boy was like, "uh oh...." So I had to go back into the GCPD into the sewers the hard way and then we get to this one part. See I forgot to mention that the only way up to the server section is via a platform elevator that is basically there to buy time as the game renders the next section, as a Full Stack Software Developer I understand their reasons for having you fight random enemies the 1st time. The issue is that the game doesn't reset the initial conditions back to default so the platform(which is above you in a non grapple location) cannot be accessed. The buttom is ONLY interactive via direct contact so Baturangs don't work and it has no _"deelevate"_ command. *I. WAS. **_PIIIIIISSED._* My guess is how the auto save features work (or don't) isn't the same as the others because they didn't debug or check any memory allocation issues and therefore leaks and crashes are common. (This is why collision detection can fail as it has to render the objects and it's properties from memory before you or an npc interacts with it[I.e a wall ] They most likely "save" *Location* and *Inventory* but do not save *Story* until after leaving one location after another and their event triggers operate based on this. If the other games did something similar an easy fix would be to set their conditionals to only allow leaving an area or mission after a mission critical event has been logged. If not then the "door" or "ladder" in this case wouldn't activate as the event(the cutscene) didn't load. This is why most games will have the character talk to themselves,"I need to do [x,y,z] first before [x2,y2,z2]" to prevent this from happening. Sadly, as this wasn't the case and we were forced to delete our save file and start over! 🤦 that's 2/3 of the game just wasted.
    But I mean yeah other than that it was ok I guess...😐

      I had a similar bug happen during the GCPD section: When I got to the criminal database and was supposed to get the cutscene where Batman explains what happened at "Black Mask's" murder scene, the game crashed. Okay that was weird, restart the game. I restarted and there was no objective, no waypoint on the map, can't interact with the database terminal, nothing. So I exit through the sewer grate where you're supposed to get the prompt for the Mad Hatter mission with the singing thugs, nothing. I could still hack the door open so at least there was that, but I couldn't do the Mad Hatter mission which means I couldn't unlock the Reverse Batarang or get that last Enigma Datapack, preventing me from 100%ing the main story. I had no idea what the hell I was supposed to do until I heard the bank alarms going off, so thankfully I could at least progress through the story after that annoying hiccup.

    Around the time of this game my brother complained about how the Joker is always written as a exclamation point character and I was a little disappointed in his initial appearance in the game. But I will say he was done pretty well despite it. My gripes with the game is few to be honest but as I said in your last video the Glitches of the game kill my enjoyment of them more then everything else.

    it genuinely felt like someone at WB was like "Wait you killed off the Joker we still need The Joker, find an excuse to include The Joker" which plays into this tired idea of Joker being Batmans Moriarty. Moriarty wasn't even in that many original Holmes books.

      Technically Joker wasn't even Batman's first Morarity. Hugo Strange came along much earlier.
      Yet one of his signature stories was given to Joker in Arkham Asylum (creating a mess of plot holes in the process).
      Yet no one can or will complain about the half hazzard writing in that game to this day.
      Those who can't identify bad writing are doomed to receive it.

    A way they maybe could've fixed it is by making Joker one of the Assassins, who takes over after Black Mask's story is done, not that Black Mask was Joker the whole time. Like Batman should've defeated Black Mask and Joker fills the spot so at that point Black Mask was fleshed out and given a full story. It'd just be two different stories but Idk i think it'd work better than "Oh well guess what Joker was behind it all" maybe instead of that it was sort've Joker's plan. Like to let Batman get rid of Black Mask so that Joker can take over. It'd tie them together but Joker wouldn't have been behind everything.

    In my opinion they would showed Joker totally in diffrent way. I mean: that would be great if during the main plot, for example Alfred contact with Batman and told him that has a place the rubbery in Ace Chemicals. In that bulding Batman chase mysterious Red Hood and fight with him and other thugs. Finally in the scene Red Hood has a accident and he felt to the chemicals.
    After defeat Black Mask and all assasins Batman spoke with Gordon on rooftop of GCPD [like in last scene of Batman Begins] and captain told him that in Gotham showed very dangerous freak and each time he left behind him showcase: the joker card.

    Map differences between the areas in Origins that became Arkham City didn't make sense. Sionis industries interior was almost entirely different inside in a way that made no sense. The courthouse layout was also different; there wasn't even a door that could lead to the downstairs area that was in City. Even some of the roads didn't make sense (but they didn't in City either). Having a murder scene in the same spot as the Wayne murders was also dumb. The GCPD building in Arkham City was a library in Origins. Wonder Tower was very different, although Batman was not able to access the exterior base building for the tower at street level in City, because it was within the security walls.
    Just lots of inconsistencies between the Origins and City maps that were more than just cosmetic and it made no sense.
