Batman Arkham Asylum Makes No Sense? Sure.

  • CBR has returned with another take on a beloved video game. As someone who has had his own hot takes that have annoyed people, I thought I'd take a look at their recent article, Batman: 20 Things That Make No Sense About Arkham Asylum. Batman Arkham has been in the news a lot recently, as it was looking like WB Games Montreal was gearing up to bring a new game (rumored to be Batman Arkham Legacy) to the Video Game Awards. When that didn't happen, many fans were not happy, while others maintained hope that a sequel would be discussed in the future. So, there are a lot of videos about Batman, and a lot of hot takes on the mythology. That's why I did want to throw my own hat in the ring. #BatmanArkham #CBR #DCcomics

    For the "why doesn't Killer Croc just leave since he's in the sewer" question, I've been under the assumption that his collar would shock him if he got too far away from the island.

    • @DegenerateJay
      @DegenerateJay  Před 4 lety +828

    • @glenwaldrop8166
      @glenwaldrop8166 Před 4 lety +309

      The only problem with that is I get the feeling that Croc would actually push the issue until the battery died if he actually decided to leave.
      There must be some kind of security over the sewers otherwise he'd just endure the shock collar until the battery fails.

      The only problem with any explanation about why Croc doesn't just use the sewers to escape, is that he ends up using the sewers to escape. His cameo in Arkham City even happens in a sewer. (And out of the collar?? Can't remember.)
      My guess is that Croc stays in Arkham (or in its sewer anyway) because he chooses to. I have no reason from the game(s) to believe this, that I can recall, but it's the only answer that makes sense of the information.

      Oddly enough it's an island Batman and Commissioner Gordon can drive to. . . So it's an island prison/hospital for the criminally insane with a highway leading to it from the mainland. It makes sense that a prison for insane super criminals known for having a revolving door has a convenient roadway to escape on.

    "Mainstream" gaming sites are awful. They are forced to put out a ton of content every day so a lot of it is just BS they made up so they can fulfill their quota. Their reviews are not trustworthy because they seem to over rate a lot of games in order to stay in developers/publishers good graces so they get more review codes in the future. Developers/Publishers can be very easily offended and will stop sending review codes to reviewers who give low scores to their games on a semi-regular basis. It's not something that should be allowed to happen, but it does and it effects review scores all the time.

Unless the city is willing to pony up for hazmat suits for the sole purpose of making sure one prisoner conforms to the dress code, it's impossible to compel her to wear anything she doesn't want to. And that's leaving aside the ethical concern that her body is photosynthetic, and making her wear too much would literally starve her to death. That's why the lights in her cell are a different colour, to supress her photosynthetic properties thus making her easier to control. By the same token, blocking her ability to photosynthesise entirely could ethically and legally be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

    For Robin and Nightwing, Robin is protecting Gotham while Batman is at the Asylum. It's also implied that a lot of criminals escaped the asylum during during the Arkham riot so there needs to be SOMEONE to intercept the criminals. If you ask why Robin wasn't going after Two-Face around the end of the game, you could chalk it down that he was busy chasing another bad guy at the time.
    Two-Face could've just escaped prison after Batman caught him off screen after Arkham Asylum. Happens all the time.
    I read somewhere that the reason why Harley Quinn was loose at the start of asylum is because she was deemed sane by the faculty and was allowed to walk around and help out.

He's being held in an abandoned wing of Arkham that Batman never visits during the game and Joker has access to by paying off Arkham Guards to give him so many minutes with Jason at a time, before people become suspicious of his whereabouts. So during No Man's Land he uses those caves to restock resources and without those he would never be able to defeat the villains because he would be to far from the Batcave or Wayne Manor in order to restock. So there are "bunkers" in the Subway of Arkham City (Which you cant enter) Wayne Tower, Slums of Gotham, Crime Alley, Gotham Park, Warehouse.

    #20, ivy does wear an arkham asylum button up shirt and bane is wearing jump suit pants like croc. The only real one their accurate about is scarecrow, but he could've gotten them back Harley took over.
    #19, joker had arkham guard, frank boles, Dr yung, and eventually Harley under his payroll (which also helps #12). So it wouldn be too surprising if fiddler had a few guards under his.
    #11, Bruce could have always taken advantage of times arkham asylum had to have been renovated for new security systems and such to have put equipment in the arkham cave. Also, if Dr Young can make titan labs in the botanical gardens without most of the other guards, doctors, and warden sharp knowing, surely batman can secretly make a new batcave
    #1, they really talked about movie, the rock? They are aware alcatraz was a real prison, right? (cbr is now really pissing me off) Only a few people have possibly escaped, but there's no evidence to support it. I could into all the reasons why alcatraz was a successful prison, but I think even Mythbusters has covered this well.

    Isn't Ivy wearing a prison shirt? It certainly isn't her classic uniform in any sense. Harley was busy pre-taking the Asylum, and from her dialogue hints she has just put on her "new outfit, pretty hot, huh?" Scarecrow is perhaps the most indefensible: his outfit doesn't seem quite ad hoc enough, but it's still more practical than a lot of his traditional garb.

    • @DegenerateJay
      @DegenerateJay  Před 4 lety +3

      Ivy's is like a weird Satin shirt or silky (idk) with the Arkham logo on it's back. It's like a prison/personal hybrid that to my knowledge only she is shown to have. Doesn't mean it wasn't inmate clothes technically since it is Arkham branded and I doubt she'd just throw that on.

    I’ve noticed a bunch of sites like this either post stuff to fill quotas, or because they have possibly skipped every cutscene and bit of lore just to get an article out. Because of lot of what was on the list is either hinted at or directly talked about, but you either have to search for it or pay attention to the cutscene (which you wouldn’t know if you skipped it sort of cutscene) so I’m pretty sure a bunch of these sights either halfway finish the game or skip every cutscene trying to get an article out

      They can't even had played other than the demo. Wayne has no security? Did you check what brand the stuff had you destroyed with the cryptic scentographer or whatever it was called? Did you notice a name among it that constantly was there, a name like Wayne? Are you really that dense you don't think Bruce Wayne has means to use it to his advantage when he has a screen available, or to send update patches? A minor effort when playing or experience the game would turn that list to 1 single question: why are the vents so huge a grown man can fit them?

Like one being 20 feet off the ground on the ceiling, like did a police officer/ Riddler glue it and just toss it at the ceiling hoping for the best? Or concrete walls 50 feet off the ground that you have to pull out to get behind them.

    I don't know why anyone is surprised Arkham's security sucks. You can put whatever kind of tech you want in there but as long as the staff can be bought(Bowles), perform illegal experiments on the patients(Young), become villains (Harley and Scarcrow), are severely injured(Cash), are murdered(Zsasz's doctor), or are serial killers who think they're the spirit of the original founder of the asylum(Sharp) it's never going to function.

    Some of it are true you know, I had some questions when I finished it (after the 3rd time maybe) but the thing is if you are looking for loop holes then the game does it job well to the point that makes you think every nook and cranny to see it less than it is.
    And the second thing is, do not try to make sense of everything, you'll have sleepless nights believe me, I mean how the hell Lost ended in a church, how can you make sense of joker's thinking and the way he sees things in Joker movie,
    And the last thing is, well, there are only a handful of games that can make a story and gameplay as good as Arkham games, it's really hard to make such thing, assassin's Creed is good? Or GTA? Even with a masterpiece like Death Stranding you'll find it hard to enjoy the story while walking all across (UCA)

    The Jason thing is explained. In the wiki, it says that Jason escaped with Deathstroke the night of Arkham Asylum, while Batman was on the roof with Titan Joker. The Joker’s original plan was to shoot Jason with the Titan, but he was already gone, so he shot himself instead. He wanted a fight between Titan Batman and Titan Robin. It makes perfect sense, he’s a psychopath. He would get a huge kick out of pitting Batman and Robin against each other. For most of the game, Jason was locked up in the Asylum. We are just unable to get to him.
