@@imohbalu Haven't tried all of them. The one I use is the RAC-J800B model, but I think the Mpress is close to snackbox with the feel of Senwa buttons (which are the ones typically used for arcade cabinets). Whichever works for you, honestly.

Which would make it a pretty big investment for something I'd just tend up treating as a paper weight. I always find myself thinking, "If I'm going to buy a nice new stick I'll get a Qanba or something."
Understandable, there are some cheaper options I would recommend giving a shot first. There's some cheap clones on ebay, junkfood arcades has a decent one in the snackbox, as well as the snack box micro for less than the 200$ of the official hitbox.
I play DBFZ with a keyboard, and I'm surprised how easier it is than controller. I hit quarter circles, forward dashes, raw supers, super jumps, crossups, moon jumps, etc. with it a lot more consistently. Only issue I have is using sparking is just not accessible at all. For me, who's more a casual and has been used keyboards my entire life, not having to learn controller muscle memory is a blessing.
Music choice is on point. But besides that, the hitbox seems like a very good idea. But considering a keyboard is very similar and the hitbox is pretty expensive, pad or keyboard seem like all you'll ever need.
Keyboard is def a solid option and totally viable. There are some cheaper clones for ~$40, cheaper parts yes but they're on par with fight sticks of the same price imo. I was going to include a buyers guide but didn't as the video I would've needed was copyrighted / property of the manufacturers
@@Proxic0n Figured even clones would be expensive but if that's the case then I'll take back the price part. But definitely unfortunate about the copyright part.
I like my hitbox but I think it's effectiveness really depends on the kind of input forgiveness a game had. Recently with Guilty Gear Strive I've gone with pad because jump, DP and super inputs need to be so precise I feel like I need to piano things on the hitbox and it was distracting from actually playing the game.
They are so much easier than early games. If you are coming from SFV, I can see that. But I use hitbox in strive and DP inputs are the easiest they’ve ever been for me. Whereas in Xrd or +R I accidentally got in the habit of doing quarter circles 2 or 3 times in a row because the inputs dropped so often on Dpad.
i had tried getting into fighting games in the past, even got andight stick for christmas to get into it. Practiced practiced and practiced and gahhhdam was i having zero fun being barely able to go from dash to black or do that z motion or wuarter circle reliably, it was all just sooooo annoying. Anyway came back a few weeks ago after seeing hitbox and before commiting to getting a whole new controller like i did the fight stick just to drop it, i started off with keyboard so that i can eventually move to hitbox. And holyyy is it do much more fun, i can actually practice moving and combos rather than being like why cant i move from down to up or forward to back in a fluid motion. Its so much better for people that didnt grow up with sticks
Stick is like learning a musical instrument: just like you are going to practice for a long time just to get a good sound out of a trumpet you have to practice a long time. On the other hand, it is just as viscerally satisfying to play a stick as a musical instrument and it feels amazing to finally nail it in a way that a hitbox or keyboard just can't match.
Welp, only took 30 years because the PCB got lost in shipping Limbo, but I finally got a Hotbox of my own. Just finished assembly yesterday and everything worked great (so far). I'm kinda back to square one but I like the feel of it so it'll be fun to learn to play with this.
I started to play with a leverless not because I thought it was the best for fighting games and would help me win but because after several months of using a lever my hand would hurt a lot, which doesn't happen (or not to the same extent at least) with the leverless, so it's also a really good way to let people with issues like mine to keep enjoying fighting games
I'd like to let you know that this shitpost actually convinced me to buy a Hitbox-style controller. I'm currently testing it out on UNICL-r, and possibly on Skullgirls, but my main goal is to play this controller exclusively on Strive.
@@Proxic0n Well, I do. You were right. This controller is dopamine-inducing. But God does it feel awkward to re-wire my fingers to execute movement and jump canceling.
Best thing I've done was switching Pad to Keyboard. Within a week I got to the level of consistency that took me months to reach, and it's only gotten much better since then. I'll probably buy an actual Hitbox "when Covid ends" so I don't have to always play on PC and for comfort.
I just got one about a week ago. It only took like 3-4 hours for me to get completely used to, and I was almost instantly a better player because of it.
I honestly have had a similar experience. I’ve been playing fighting games on exclusively pad for literally my whole life and recently got a hitbox style controller for the first time. It was like waking up out of the matrix, I swear. Within a few hours every input was more consistent than it had ever been in my life. My hand pain was gone. Then I realized that I’d lived with this nagging feeling of frustration I’ve felt my entire fighting game life that was suddenly just…gone. This probably sounds like exaggeration but it’s totally not.

After watching it, the decision making process has become way easier for me and you've convinced me to play with my keyboard.
I’m absolutely lost with what fighting controller to buy. I’ve gotten really into guilty gear and tekken 7 (grew up with tekken, just found guilty gear and now love both) so I wanna invest in a fighting controller for guilty gear especially. I can do pretty decently with a controller on tekken and same for guilty gear, but I have a lot of trouble doing circle motions on d-pad. With tekken it’s not really an issue since it doesn’t really have circle motion inputs, but it’s crucial for guilty gear if you want to use your supers. So I figure since I’m having issues with circle motions the most then a stick would be a the way to go. I feel like using a hit box would just make things harder since I have to add more movements for the same input. For half circle it would be a simple left or right motion and roll it to the opposite side, but a 7 button string seems much more complicated. I’m a bit conflicted after watching this video but I still think I’m gonna go with a stick, feels more natural. I got all the time in the world so taking time to develop muscle memory isn’t much of an issue for me. So I think I’ll probably end up getting the Hori Fighting Stick Alpha.
Did u get the stick? I wonder if I should get a hitbox too, I play tekken and im trying to give keyboard a shot so maybe Ill buy a hitbox someday, but the stick is the classic and idk, I feel like is the best option at the end of the day because its good for everygame and it has something unique... hitbox might be dope but im not sure, what are your thoughts on stick if u had it and would you still like to try hitbox/do you want to buy one someday?

I really like my hitbox, but depending on the game, fast back forward inputs could be really poor. So in Tekken, if you input a back forward move with perfect timing and skip the neutral input, then you don't get that move, just the forward input. Makes things like jet upper a lot less consistent if you're trying to be frame perfect.
I don't drop my QCF QCB when using a gamepad, but I can't get the feel of my normals with just 4 buttons and shoulder. This means that hitbox would be perfect for me. I have a fighting stick, but it's driving me crazy. No matter how much I train in the lab, I always drop my motion inputs.

Note: if you want to play OG fighting games like ST or Darkstalkers 1) the inputs aren't as lenient and you won't be able to do 360 motions 2) you go to a tournament and it might be a legit arcade cab and you're looking at using the standard Sanwa lever/buttons anyway. Because of these two things it is not your best option for old man games.
one thing to note is if you played pad / or stick and want to transition to hitbox, you are going to be significantly worse for a long time. you will get it pretty well down in 1month of playing atleast an hr or two a day one you get there tho you will feel like you hit a barrier. the last 15/20% of your execution is going to be painful. Well worth the grind if your up to the challenge though..
I found that with a stick every damn time, I'd get diagonal inputs instead of straight L/R. I can't afford a HitBox yet, but I'm playing on keyboard with Space being up to get the muscle memory. BOIIIII I can't stop hitting W to try to jump.
The problem of fighting games is, that it needs a lot of time input to get even a small level of satisfaction. Ps. : I'm getting into Street fighter 5 right now and practicing Balrog on a daily basis. Still I cant pull of a combo with more than 4 hits. That's frustrating, but I will be a Warlord one day😤
@@aquilesca5tr0 tekken combos are different. There is not much stick motion required. It’s all button pressing. Which makes the combos easier for my brain to execute. You just have to memorize it. SF combos are harder for me. Like i have a mental blockage to move the stick and press a button together.
Has anyone ever won a big game tournement using a hitbox? I own all three and the hitbox has just as many down falls or more, CA/Super inputs for me just don't come out for me no matter how much I use it.
Yeah you aren't getting something for nothing. Each input method has their positives and negatives that you're simply exchanging. Everybody's hands/fingers are built differently as well as our brains. No silver bullets and one size does not fit all. Bottom line, play what work best for you.
I use a different controller depending on what I play. I use the PS4 controller for Tekken 7 because most characters in that don't require any rolling or inputs involving one direction right after another. I use a joystick for Street Fighter V because there are a lot of rolly motions in that for special attacks that I find are generally easier to pull off with a joystick than an analog stick (that and, for some ungodly reason I never learned, when I tried to play it with a PS4 controller it would keep interpreting my all punch button as a heavy punch button including when I tried to perform EX moves or it simply would not work at all. would not recommend any controller that forces you to use triggers with the exception of certain Macros).
I play pad because i don't have full hand coordination on my right hand and using it for more than thumb and index hurts. To everyone, DON'T FUCK UP YOUR HANDS! USE SOMETHING COMFORTABLE TO YOU! EXECUTION ISN'T WORTH IT, FIGHTING GAMES/SPEEDRUNNING/SHMUPS ARENT WORTH MESSING UP YOUR HANDS
Your argument is convincing...But the thing is currently out of my budget (Specially since the cheapest model is out of stock), so I guess my keyboard can be an alternative while I save money

after watching this, i immediately plan out for my custom diy hitbox controller. from parts, motherboard, and the external design, all for playing tekken and street fighter v
tbh, people hate on modernd and simple controls but realyl doenst matter that much, neutral is a important part of fighing games and new players cant grasp that term of Unsafe because teyre new to the game, most people that stick to learn fighting games without playing have to have the humility to say "im suck, but i can be better" most people that drops fighting games in less than lets say 5hours, dindt even touch campaing, tutorials, all that stuff probably, and just went online, hell i have a friend that got rekt on Tekken 8 because he went to play casual matches and he was new to tekken (not to fighting games)
in my opnion, controlelr choice is more about ergonomy than anything else, played pad till 2018, then went to stick, and now i use hitbox. hitbox is the one that gave me the least amount of pain after playing (i have tendonitis)
I played guilty gear for a few months on pad, just a regular PS5 controller (I beg you if you play it on PS5 and play pad please find an alternative controller with a better dpad the PS5 controller's dpad is not meant for motion inputs) I got pretty good at Baiken on pad I was like conistently floor 7/8 but I switched to hitbox and jesus christ is the game so much easier for me now there's so much I can do and I'm so consistent with my inputs it's fuckin crazy I definitely recommend learning to play on keyboard if you don't have the money for a hitbox, or you can get the smaller cheaper snackbox (please make sure if you play on console to buy a controller that works with that console) hitbox is great and I love it very dearly
i honestly don't understand why so many people play with sticks and pads over keyboard/hit box: in kost fighting games, the movement is actually digital (8 directions), rather than analog, so why not use digital controls? it makes so much more sense
Yeah I have 0 idea how people consistently do motion inputs on dpad. I've used dpad all my life for 2d games like platformers so I'm used to using it for controls, but doing any kind of motion input on it consistently feels impossible. Tbh I don't get how people do motion inputs consistently period outside of keyboard and hitbox, it just feels super janky on stick as well tbh.
this thing is not even sold in my country, i'd have to order one from amazon and wait like month for the package to arrive in my country and pay a whole bunch of taxes so i'll pass, i'm good with my fightpads
people normally use the d-pad on controllers for fighting games? now i feel like an alien for actually using the sticks because my mutant hands cant begin to fathom using the dpad
It’s because the games don’t use analog input for directions. Most competitive fighting games have used digital motion since the 8 bit days, and analog directional controllers in home consoles didn’t exist until at least the n64. Therefore using an analog stick will be less accurate. For those of us who grew up in that era (with nearly everything being Japanese games) it makes sense. It never occurred to me that younger people would forget how to do so or not know how to use an arcade joystick setup if they’re into fighting games.
So it's like keyboard? Does that mean to do a fireball you would need to do s + sd + d + punch button? The extra halfway button is what fucks me up the most.

nice music from cyberpunk bartender I love that
Va-11 Hall-A Music 😳😳
Note: if you want to play OG fighting games like ST or Darkstalkers 1) the inputs aren't as lenient and you won't be able to do 360 motions 2) you go to a tournament and it might be a legit arcade cab and you're looking at using the standard Sanwa lever/buttons anyway. Because of these two things it is not your best option for old man games.
How the fuq have I missed this video🤯
one thing to note is if you played pad / or stick and want to transition to hitbox, you are going to be significantly worse for a long time.
you will get it pretty well down in 1month of playing atleast an hr or two a day one you get there tho you will feel like you hit a barrier.
the last 15/20% of your execution is going to be painful.
I'm a psychopath that uses the analog stick on my controller for fighting games.
This whole video was a huge opinion to what beginners should use
Yes! That's how persuasive videos work 🙂 it's okay if you don't agree
The problem of fighting games is, that it needs a lot of time input to get even a small level of satisfaction.
Ps. : I'm getting into Street fighter 5 right now and practicing Balrog on a daily basis. Still I cant pull of a combo with more than 4 hits. That's frustrating, but I will be a Warlord one day😤
SF5 was really dumbed down compared to SF4, if you struggle with SF5 dont try tekken
@@aquilesca5tr0 tekken combos are different. There is not much stick motion required. It’s all button pressing. Which makes the combos easier for my brain to execute. You just have to memorize it. SF combos are harder for me. Like i have a mental blockage to move the stick and press a button together.
@@whysosrs5534 And not just easier for your brain but basically everyone's brains.
@@whysosrs5534 tf do you mean, tekken is far and away the easiest fighting game to understand. super lenient with combo flow and structure.
Idk back when I was playing sf4 and kof13 I couldn't do shit till I got my stick I'm never going back
Stick is also good
Nah i use the pad's control stick for fighting games
Hey! There's some more affordable models on ebay :) www.ebay.com/itm/274479553738?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200818143230%26meid%3D489e5630a53442ebaab29d865c446a2e%26pid%3D101224%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D293155034854%26itm%3D274479553738%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DDefaultOrganicWeb&_trksid=p2047675.c101224.m-1
@@Proxic0n Oh, nice!
I'm pretty sure it's common in Japan to play shmups with the d-pad... but that just confirms they're all crazy.
after watching this, i immediately plan out for my custom diy hitbox controller. from parts, motherboard, and the external design, all for playing tekken and street fighter v
Damm and I thought my game cube controller helped me
tbh, people hate on modernd and simple controls but realyl doenst matter that much, neutral is a important part of fighing games and new players cant grasp that term of Unsafe because teyre new to the game, most people that stick to learn fighting games without playing have to have the humility to say "im suck, but i can be better" most people that drops fighting games in less than lets say 5hours, dindt even touch campaing, tutorials, all that stuff probably, and just went online, hell i have a friend that got rekt on Tekken 8 because he went to play casual matches and he was new to tekken (not to fighting games)
in my opnion, controlelr choice is more about ergonomy than anything else, played pad till 2018, then went to stick, and now i use hitbox.
hitbox is the one that gave me the least amount of pain after playing (i have tendonitis)
I played guilty gear for a few months on pad, just a regular PS5 controller
(I beg you if you play it on PS5 and play pad please find an alternative controller with a better dpad the PS5 controller's dpad is not meant for motion inputs)
I got pretty good at Baiken on pad
I was like conistently floor 7/8
but I switched to hitbox and jesus christ is the game so much easier for me now
there's so much I can do and I'm so consistent with my inputs it's fuckin crazy
I definitely recommend learning to play on keyboard if you don't have the money for a hitbox, or you can get the smaller cheaper snackbox (please make sure if you play on console to buy a controller that works with that console)
hitbox is great and I love it very dearly
Ngl I use both d-pad and analogue stick for playing games. It's just feels right
I would destroy people on the Donkey Kong bongo! >:)
Me:I Want a Hitbox
Also me: XBOX PLAYER
i honestly don't understand why so many people play with sticks and pads over keyboard/hit box: in kost fighting games, the movement is actually digital (8 directions), rather than analog, so why not use digital controls? it makes so much more sense
Because back in the day fighting games are in arcades (stick), and later on in consoles (pad), not in pc.
@@hermontarmand2404 ok, makes sense i suppose.
o feel a bit stupid now, should've thought of that myself
@@hermontarmand2404 Hi brother between fightbox b1 vs fightbox f1 vs mpress what do you recommend ¿

Arcade type sticks (for the purpose of this conversation) are digital, they have 4 micro switches which pick up directional movement.
Me getting ready for riots project L
(Don't have much experience in fighting games)

0:12 hmmm again, what a familiar tune
I respect the va11halla music choice
Intro music made me so happy
Decreasing specials on single buttons would be too boring. They need to give new players something, to learn the game easier.
it is called training mode
I play on a Wii remote, to do a dp I uppercut in real life
You are a god king amongst mere mortals
The only cons si if your characters is a 360 grappers
The Razior Raion pad is a good mix 👍
a hitbox controller in my country is expensive as hell so I will just stick with the keyboard
best video on this subject. i was kinda on the fence about the hitbox but i think im gonna go for it. thanks
Valhalla music ! yeAHHHHHHHH
I would like to get a hitbox but they are expensive as hell
So I guess for now i'll have to stick with my old ps2 controller
I play on keyboard rn which is why I'm considering going to hitbox
DK bongos goated
isnt it then just a key board with bigger buttons couldent you make a custom keyboard with like 8-10 large buttons at that point
did you build that fightstick/hitbox combination stick? It looks sick.
I did! Allfightsticks.com
So it's like keyboard? Does that mean to do a fireball you would need to do s + sd + d + punch button? The extra halfway button is what fucks me up the most.
Hehe, funny keyboard go clack clack
I use pad and I play with the joystick. It's very easy to use, I don't understand your point.
Also Vallhala music NICE
this actually makes me want to try one
Nice video ! it is hitbox the same as keyboard ?
What joystick do you recommend? I’ve been looking but know nothing when it comes to actually quality of the thing.
1:28 Dont judge me. i grew up using a wii remote
