I gotta be honest with you, if you're truly serious about getting out of debt, trading your Mustang was pretty much the worst thing you could have done. You should have sold it in a P2P sale and gotten about 5k more for it, then go buy another car.

To all those who think stick shift is the only way to go, remember that on both the C1 and the C8, the only option was/is automatic, so it’s been part of The Corvette lineup since the beginning. Further, for those of us who do a lot of city driving and/or have foot/leg problems like I do, an automating is perfect.

Randy, I understand your feeling on being upside down on your car. I was in the same shape for years. Spreading this over all of your vehicles can help you psychologically feel better. Now the trick to getting out of debt is to rank the loans smallest to largest, pay minimums on everything but the smallest and keep flipping Copart cars and take your profits and pay as much as you can on the smallest. When that is paid off move everything you were paying on the smallest to the next smallest. It will be gone before you know it! Good Luck and I will be watching.

Nice Vette. I like C6 Corvettes, and although red is one of my least favourite colors, this one looks pretty sharp with the tinted glass. Not a fan of chrome wheels though. My advice, sell all but one of your cars and pay off your debt. You are living way too large for your income if you have that many loans against depreciating assets. Do you own a house? If not, buy a cheap one, pay it off as soon as possible, then live debt free and save money while paying cash for everything (you can use credit cards for purchases, but pay the card(s) off every month).

My first brand new car was a stick. My wife who was with me at the dealership kept nudging me to get an automatic. I told her I planned to teach her how drive it. No doubt she was not happy, but went along after I explained why she should learn. She did learn to drive it and confessed she enjoyed her new found driving skill. She was also happy to show off to her girlfriends she could drive a stick. This is not to knock your decision and reason to opt for an automatic, but to point out the missed opportunity to share with your fiance the joy of driving a manual over an automatic. Granted a Corvette may not be everyone's first choice to teach manual shifting on. lol Great car, thanks for sharing!

That is one beautiful Vette. I have driven Mustangs for 45 yrs.but I love all cars. If someone is interested enough in a car to pay their hard earned money for it, restore, modify, personalize,or leave it as is, that is good enough for me. I get sick of hearing people complain that you aren't a man unless your vehicle has a clutch. I drove tractor trailer for 33 yrs before being fortunate to retire early 5 yrs ago. Anyone who drives one knows that you are constantly upshifting and down shifting all day. Hundreds of times. It gets a little tiring. Keep in mind that it isn't unusual to have 500 -700 hp and 1000 to 1500 lbs of torque in a good running diesel. You can do a lot of damage to an asphalt road when you want to play. I admit there is nothing like putting your car through the gears, power shifting , rubber in a few gears. I'm 61 and still love getting pushed back in my seat. Automatics are a different breed compared to the old C4s, C6s, Turbo 350 and 400, Chrysler A-904 and 727. They were great transmissions and each had there specialty. Now a person with a laptop can make cars do almost anything. Some people have just as much fun just putting it in drive and going. Some like to put there autos in manual mode and have fun with the paddle shifter. I think its great that we have the choice. Lets just enjoy our cars before the Government takes them away and makes us drive electric cars.

I believe your credit score takes a huge hit everytime you get new car loans and when you pay off loans too fast. They like to see you pay car loans for a couple years so it doesnt hurt your credit. I remember I traded in a car after having it for 9 months and my credit score went down 50 points. I was so pissed off. I sure learned my lesson.

  • @JamesJones-xb8bx
    @JamesJones-xb8bx Před 5 lety

Most people complaining about stick shift verses auto don't even own a car like this. If you have back problems like I do this auto with manual paddle option gives you the best of both worlds. I know it's not the best transmission but it gets the job done. I know because I had to replace mine twice. The paddles give you total control of the car when driving spirited and fully automatic when just cruising works as well. SCT makes a $400 tuner that gives you options to adjust shift point and shift pressure which irons out most of the issues with the auto not know what gear to be in under light throttle positions. The tuner also makes paddle shifting much quicker and smother. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about a transmission unless they want to make all of the payments for you. Enjoy the car as you pass and leave behind the idiots with all kinds of opinions that really don't matter.

*my dream vette is a 2013 convertible white with gray stripes LS7 just like the one they had at the corvette museum for a couple years in the lobby. never would sell that one for some reason and once i quit asking it's gone, sold. damn the luck. Damn dude if you were ever in credit trouble and you're able to get a 9% intrest rate you're doing well. everyone keeps trying to charge me 12% or more even with a 760 beacon. I don't blame you though. debt free is deffinitely nice. just paid off a $10,000.00 personal loan, $3,000.00 credit card and a $5,000.00 paypal credit myself. now all we owe is our mortgage and the electric and water each month then our property taxes at the end of the yearso the nex thing to do is pay off the mortgage so we can be debt ffree completely. it's quite freeing paying all of thst off and knowing you don't have to panic each month to make sure everything gets paid on time. Who cares if no one else likes it, You're the one that has to drive it and pay the insurance. I like the meme i posted about this a couple months back on facebook that says "I used to care what people thought until i tried to pay my bills with their opinions" says a lot if you think about it. cool deal on the shirts. I bought one already though, i like the idea of the name on the shirts since i am fixing to be doing the same thing myself so even though it's not my user or channel name the idea will still apply lol* did you save your changes when you logged out of the tee spring site because your shirts still look the same to me.

I have a 2009 Vette also with the LS3 and I have the Active exhaust as well as the Active suspension and the paddle shifters. With the exhaust fuse pulled, the car always has 438 HP. because the exhaust stays open .It's paddle shifters work great even around town but fuel mileage suffers. Going through the gears with the paddle shifter and the exhaust open using all 438 HP at hard acceleration is like a thrill ride at Disney! lol... The Performance mode keeps the traction control off, but in case you get in a little sideways trouble the active suspension will usually stop you from goin to far into a 180 or worse a 360. So, enjoy your new ride and get more familiar with all the wonderful things it does and is capable of. The mode button on your console is a treat if you use it properly. Read your manual!! Have fun. Mods on these cars will depreciate the value, and overall make them harder to handle for a novice performance driver. The Cold air induction system is the only mod worth money that will NOT decrease the value of the car while adding another 8 to 10 HP.. Also a short spoiler will look great and also not decrease the value. I did both for under $1000. It now has 450 HP. Finding that for under 30K makes the 09 Vette a hard car to beat for the money. Good find and you did the right thing buying one. Plus it is also the lowest production model of all the C6 Corvettes making it hold it's value even better than most other C6's.

so you didn't get out of debt, you just moved the debt around. now some things you had paid for or paid down, are not free and clear. now that said part of the reason your credit is where it is , is because you don't have enough payment history. if you slam payments on things like you want to , to get debt paid down it doesn't show payment history. I can see what you are trying to do but it doesn't make a lot of sense financially. now that said I buy things in cash because I hate debt too. it's your life do what you feel is right and don't worry about what others think. personally if I were you I would get some more of those cars paid off, I would get the garage clean to put your cars in because you keep saying how few cars in Oklahoma there are that don't have hail dents. then once your debt is paid down, I would be trying to buy that house you are living in or one like it.

the car was inside and out. I went there for an automatic tune-up and free dyno . My XK8 never gave me a problem for 17,235 strong
great feeling miles -till I hit the largest Buck I have ever seen in Missouri. with it's togue out looking dead at me. that landed

It's not often you can improve your financial situation by buying a 'Vette so well done on that one. I suspect a lot of people below are missing the fact that, while you still owe the same amount of money, you now owe it across all your cars and the amount you owe on each, as separate loans, is now what the cars are worth if you put them up for sale on the open market. As for the auto box, you're reason for picking the auto is absolutely a perfectly good one, plus, when you're buying a used 'Vette you chose the best one in your price range regardless of transmission or, often, you end up tucking yourself up with a pup big time...

About the only criticism I would have would be that every dealership will steal your trade - if you could have sold the Mustang (even to a dealership) you'd be in better shape (minus any tax benefit of course). Beyond that I think they were good trades. I'm a "Ford Guy" too so never mind any of the haters - the C6 is a great car....

Definitely an interesting move! You must have a flexible lender? Spreading the difference lost on the Mustang across the cars you already own avoided having to pay the out of pocket costs. The only thing that hurts is the 9% interest on all the loans. Could you have sold the Mustang for more via private party or shop around other dealerships? Will you sell the RX8/Prius to continue your quest to be debt free?

  • @TheJeweler54

I wouldn’t have traded in the mustang for that tho. Debt free is awesome place to be! Shoot me a DM bro. Paid off 189k in three years and enjoyed flipping/getting to paid for cars during that time. 2001 F150 (23k Miles) and 2004 Grand cherokee v8 (96k miles) I LOVE THIS CAR THOUGH.

IMHO the best course of action is to buy salvaged/repairable cars and fix them up and have no car debt. I worked in the car industry and the salvage rebuilding side for many years. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap newer salvage car, build up your equity/cash, and buy a nice salvage car that will costs you less than 70% of retail.
I've been doing it for many years with cheap cars, luxury cars, and sports car, with no debt, having 5 cars in the driveway with no car payments. Stay car debt free, car's are a horrible investment minus the few and far in between one's.

There's nothing wrong with an automatic. I have a 2008 coupe with an automatic and I have the paddle shift which you can shift it when you want. I noticed you had the paddle shift also, so use it like a stick shift. You'll love it and the wife can use the automatic. I have the dual mode exhaust too. I got a device that replaces the fuse to the solenoid s and you can have the valve open for a deep rumbling exhaust or closed for a quiet exhaust. You control it with a key fob supplied with the relay.
You have a really great Corvette and I know you and your wife will enjoy it.

As a former owner of a Collection Agency for years. Now retired. Instead of getting in debt, get another job to go with the other two jobs you already should have. And If she can't be okay without a Corvette, she's the wrong one. Get out of debt and talk to someone who is educated in solving a debt crisis. Buying cars is not a good solve. Unless you can the cars a get a two or three thousand dollar Toyota or Honda to get by until you get out of debt. They work good to get you to your three job and they are usually very reliable transportation. You need a reality check.

The vette is a sweet ride, but I don't understand the financial piece. So you took a 10k hit on the '17 mustang. Took 2 secured loans out on the rx8 and prius to cover that 10k. how did that reduce debt and/or risk? It just shifted debt around and put the bank in a better position.
