Ya I'm 65 and I have no problem with the top. I have both tops and the glass one is definitely lighter but no issues. It's your technique that is wrong. I have a 11' GS and go topless a lot, one of the reasons I didn't get a ZO6.
We owned our C6 Grand Sport for 9 years. It was the best Corvette ever built and the GM engineers claimed that the LS3 engine was also the best engine they ever designed. I am really considering buying another one. Great car to cruise in or take on a trip. If you buy one, you won’t be sorry!
There are way easier ways to handle the targa top. Unlatch it from the inside but then step out of the car and pull it off from the outside with the windows down and door open. The owner's manual describes the process.
Good job on the semi-walk around Bro. One of the best on the C6's I have seen. I have an '09 with active exhaust a feature you didn't cover but you may not have it on yours. I took the fuse out that opens and closes it and my exhaust is always open just a tip for guys who have not bought one yet. Sounds great at idle also and saved lots of money on having to buy a performance exhaust and it gains 8 Horsepower also at all RPMs!
I'm 77 years old, my Targa top is easy to remove replace. You are doing it all wrong. Hold by front and back edge, stand on side of car, (windows down) engage one rear side, then other rear, front drops in place. Reverse to remove; lift front, slide one side slightly forward to dis-engage 1 rear pin, then the other.. Back edge pins are long enough to connect/dis-connect one at a time.
I used to have a C5 Corvette and regret getting rid of it………. I would love to get a C7 Corvette if I found a good deal but the more and more that I look at these C6 Corvettes with a little headlight update. I’m really starting to dig them more and more and the price on them is just right.👌
Great video! Just sat down with my parents and talked about getting a c6 in about 1.5 years or so when I’m 18 (they said yes!). Been watching your videos for a little over a month now and learned a lot! Looking forward to the next video and plan on watching them even after I get my c6.
If you do get the vette please go do some sort of high performance school so you can learn the physics of car control and the vocabulary that goes with it and learn safely what the corvette can and can't do.
nobody truly knows pain, anger, and sadness until your c6 battery decides to die while you're in the store with the doors locked and you have to do the trunk crawl and call sixteen people
you don’t have to crawl it has door releases my c6 battery has died plenty of times before i replaced it never had to crawl through once with the doors locked
@@kalibgolden5257 do you mean like when you’re inside it? Take some time and read the complete manual you will be surprised of some of the information in it there is a key in the fob that you insert into a lock above the license plate and once you open the trunk there is a lever that you pull and the driver side door will open and if you are in the vehicle and the door will not open there is a lever on the left side of the drivers seat that when pulled will open the door also if the fob battery goes dead there is a port in the glove compartment that you plug the fob into and it will give the fob enough power to start the car

Hey I’m 74 years old and work out with weights regularly but my top on my 18 ZO6 has a transparent roof which is very easy to remove but if I had a standard roof panel it would be a piece of cake to take off and put back on!!!
And BTW, the skip gear was an EPA thing at the time (or at least a work around to get by the gas guzzler tax)... HP Tuners also allows you to bypass it.
@@georgearakaa757 I believe all of they came with the skip-shift (first thing I removed on mine, lol), but I believe only the 2010+ came with launch control.
Secret mode after competitive driving is hold tc button for 5secs to disable traction control and Active handling for full throttle control such as burnouts and donuts 😉.
I grab the top by the center front and rear. I stand outside the car to take it on and off. The recommended process as you demonstrated is much more difficult and risky for damage.
_Great Corvette. But honestly, if you think the targa is hard to remove(it's miles ahead of what the C4 was). And the fourth-gen top was pretty heavy as compared to the C6 top. Decent video right here for sure._
Dude, this video was informative AND FUNNY AS HELL!!! I was laughing by myself in the dentist waiting room...FUNNY!! I love the C6s, my dream Vette is ZO6, maybe one day. Thank you for the laughs. 😅
Good vid. I modified my 2012 G.S. with a blower, cam, headers and a few other mods, now 680 at the rear wheels. Liking your wheels, What make and size are they?
A note on the 1-4 lockout, it is only active if the car is warmed up (coolant temp 167F, but the oil will probably still be a little too cold to romp on it), 20% throttle or less and 15-19mph. In normal driving it is never an issue for me, If you wind out first to 2200rpm or so you will never encounter it.
While I have never removed a targa top from a corvette, I cannot imagine it is all that hard. We have a Mazda Miata with the optional factory hardtop and I am able to remove it and reinstall it by myself without difficulty. And that is a FULL hardtop complete with a glass rear window. And I am in my 60's (though truth be told, I was still in my 50's the last time I removed the top).
keep the miata, in stock form you can beat the crap out of vettes in autocross, with a supercharger you can take some of them off the line but they will overtake you. still a supercharged miata is the most fun you can have on 4 wheels
Skip shift (1-4th gear) is not stupid at all and wasn’t added just to give owners some fuel economy. It was added to put the car just under the threshold to avoid the gas guzzler tax that was around $8k if I remember correctly. I would much rather have the small inconvenience to disable it vs paying that money.
I’m 67 and have owned Corvettes for 51 years. My current is a ‘17 ZO6 manual and the only issue I have is getting in and out easily. Looking forward to the day power lift seats and grab bars will be available? 😂
GM called it skip shift. It was a way to avoid the gas guzzler tax for whom ever bought the corvette. So not having to pay the tax wasn't stupid. Yes it sucks until you unplug the right wires.

Yes it does. I do it every spring start after the car has been sitting for months. It will litterally just crank and build oil PSI until you let off the gas. I think every EFI engine does this, it shuts off the fuel system by holding the gas to the floor.
All due respect, but some of the advice is a bit ... off. 1) Not all Vettes have the assisted closing for the rear hatch. 2) Balancing a $2K targa panel over your head is risky. Get a solid grip on its edges. I'm a mid-50s Xer, and I don't really have any trouble with it ... Great advice for remembering to latch the targa. Good demo on getting in the car with a dead battery. I have a C4 C5 and a C6 I dont care to have the top off while driving because of the way the wind buffets into the rear Seems they need a deflector for the top of the windshield Years back I bought a deal that keeps the rear hatch open about 3 inches on the C4 to let the air go through after driving on the highway for half an hour I almost past out from the carbon monoxide I pulled over in a parking lot and fell asleep for a little while.
