Thanks for watching ! Let me know your opinion on which city is the better city to live in and let me know why :)
This was really informative and helpful, thank you for sharing! It was helpful to hear about your experiences as an English-speaker & a black woman, that's exactly the information I was looking for
Thanks for your feedback. I definitely wanted to make this video because when I was moving I couldn't find any advice from someone I could relate to
I've had one foot out the door of Toronto as it keeps getting more expensive making it hard to do other things. I think you just convinced me to make the move!
Born and raised in Montreal. Everything she said is on point !!!!!
Thank you ! And for those who have disagreements... they just have a different experience/different opinion 🙂 I just wanted to share mine. But glad to know I’m not the only one 💖
this is the first video i'm watching from you and I love your energy - super chill
you’re sweet 🥰 thank you !
I love how you went into details !!
Despite the bad stuff, it seems like a good place to startup a business and provide some of the services that are lacking there. Still very interested in moving there. Thanks for all the info
I completely agree ! There is soooo much opportunity for growth here. Montreal is honestly such a beautiful city. It will flourish
So I’m 14 (15 in Dec) and I’ve recently considered moving to Quebec, Canada when I’m older (from Oregon). I know Montreal is a primarily French city. I’ve actually always been interested in learning French, and have been studying a bit already so I don’t think that will be too much of an issue for me.
I’m aware I’m still young and it may not be best to move far away from friends and family immediately, but I’m just trying to learn some of the basics and things to consider when choosing a place to live and just “adulting” in general - that way I’m not lost when I’m on my own.
In that case, this video was very helpful so thank you! To me Canada just seems better than the US in so many areas. Obviously both have their pros and cons, but I just feel like it’s the place for me. ❤️🖤❤️
Like I said, I still have a few years and plenty of time to look into and think these things over. Just wanna start early. ^-^
You will love Canada. You are right both countries have their pros and cons. Just make sure you watch other videos as well to see as many different people's experiences 🥰 and yes you have a lot of time to think about this. Have you been to Canada before?
Golden Kenny No I have not, but I’d love to take a trip at some point!
Wow I appreciate this video. Very informative!
🤗
keep grinding 😩😩❤️
Great information ℹ️ very detailed ❤️
the volume is too low
Omg 🤕 thanks for pointing this out ! I posted a new video about living in montreal that is much more louder and clear
Great video girl! Chris suggested you to me since I JUST moved to Montreal from Toronto too. You were spot on in this WHOLE video 😂 plus you funny af , new subbie here 😊
Thanks ! I'm assuming you've had a similar experience 😆 thanks you've just got a new subbie too 💗😉
Golden Kenny I have! 😩😂 and thank you! 💖
I’ve been thinking about moving to Montreal for a while now. I have children so I can’t just got without a back up plan ! Your making me want to move so bad. The cost of living is so affordable also ! New sub your dope lol 😹
Thanks for the sub ! And you should definitely considerate it if it works for you 😁
Very nice content. keep up the great work. congrats
Loved the video💕
Gurlll! I absolutely loved every piece of this! But come back to Toronto to visit
Thank you ! I will 😁💖💖💖
Great video! Definitely love it :-) Huge like 👍😉
Will definitely be coming back❤️
Thanks for this informative video! I'm currently in the process of relocating to MTL from Toronto and looking for work in the same field as you. What sites would you recommend for graphic design/photo/editor job hunting?
Indeed is where I have found every job. But still look on linked in and zip recruiter. Or I know if you type your job search on google it will show you job listing from any job searching site
very relaxing and dope back ground music
Made the move from Toronto to Montreal too. Never looked back, Montreal is so much better in our opinion. All the best from a new subscriber!❤👍
Can you share a few reasons why you like Montreal better than Toronto?
Thanks for subscribing 🥰 I miss my family and friends but I definitely don't see myself going back
@@maxhope7691 Regret the late reply. YT only notified me today.
Just personal impressions, but the ppl seem a bit more upbeat/friendlier/open. The physical environment is nicer w more interesting buildings and nature (except for the horrible roads haha). Get to experience/learn from another aspect of Western culture/language. I'm fact, we kinda talk about it in our cultural differences video haha.
@@goldenxkenny We feel the same. At least the drive is not impossible so could visit whenever we want.
This video is LUUUUVVVVV love my city :)
Hi this was really helpful thank you! I'm thinking about where to live (between vancouver, montreal, and toronto) and right now montreal looks like the best option because it's actually affordable. but I was watching one video comparing and they said "montreal has the highest income tax and you lose a third of your income so basically no savings". do you have an opinion on this? were they just exagerating?
So it is true that montreal has a higher tax. But comparing how I was taxed included into the cost of living I am still more advantaged here. I'm not capable of fully breaking down the tax but let me offer you what I can...
I get paid weekly. On a pay stub I should receive $770 after the taxes I receive $640. So around $500 a month lost to taxes.
I cant remember how much I was losing in Toronto. But when doing my tax return here I do get back a lot more because I've had to pay a lot more. I really cant say much about the tax situation other than yes I consider it a bit of a con but it's so minor in comparison to other struggles of cost of living
I was so shocked when I saw how much my boyfriend receives back in tax return. Way more than I ever had in Toronto.
@@goldenxkenny Thank you so much for all the info that's so helpfull!!
You should avoid living on the east side since it's very french & have u had a hard time learning french with the strong Quebecois accent? Their accent & some words are very different than whats taught in school.
I agree ! I actually live more on the west side. But I had a job in the beginning of the year on the east side. Surprisingly an english job in a French area. Because my French is currently almost non existent I dont see a huge difference between the Quebecois accent and Montreal. But I only know one girl that is Quebecois. I've been warned tho that once I start learning I'll really see the difference 😱
@@goldenxkenny It's easy to learn French when I 'll go there because I want to continue master's in Concordia but I'm very worried about language French.
@@mohamedchawech8610 what comes easy for some may not be easy for others. I have some friends with easy for them learning another language personally for myself learning another language is not easy. I struggle with that and this is not my first introduction to French. But practice always makes perfect and living around people who speak French definitely helps. There are a lot of classes here to help people learn French
You have a lovely home, looks neat from what I see ❤️
Thank you 💗💗💗
You’re from Brampton? I lived there for ages. I want to move to Montréal as well. Thank you so much for the informative video.
Same ! Brampton is BORING !!!!
@@mahoganysoul7195 Very true, ha ha.
Mmm the Food looks bomb 😍
I'm really curious how covid has affected rent in Montreal
May I ask how old are you? Since you said if you’re young go to Toronto and I’m pretty curious cause I agree and I’m thinking about which city to settle in. Also did you have any experiences with racism in Montreal?
I’m 25. I think young just depends on what your timeline looks for yourself. I am still considered young but because I’ve started focusing on making decisions that will have long term benefits in my life I do need more realistic cost of living. But when all I was focused on was partying and enjoying life I had no problem paying a ridiculous amount to live in downtown Toronto.
I also made the move from Brampton years ago... my experience was/is similar. Thanks for sharing.
No problem ! I wanted to share an honest opinion of my experience with out sugar coating. Everyone was sugar coating MTL when I was planning to move here
Black Canadá go away
I like this video, I'm planning on leaving Toronto myself.
@Divalina Joshua racism? This isn't the 1960 people are used to black people. The only difference is Toronto is more secretive. They'll hate you and be fake about it. Where as french people will straight up cuss you out for not knowing french, but trust me I'd prefer that than everyone too afraid to tell me how they really feel.
Besides you'd move Montreal because your going to be less stressed out and able to move up in life quicker. The sooner you own a home the quicker you can start talking on more responsibilities.
Divalina Joshua because the québécois are trying to protect the French
I agree with everything you said tbh
😍😍😍
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to town (And the small club of anglo youtubers)
hahaaa thank you !
How much money did u have saved before moving to montreal
even though this vid was Dec 2019, do you agree with everything today?
My opinions have changed about food. I think I would remove my rating about the food altogether because food is very dependent on the preferences of the person. I think in the video it made it seem like I love fast food. Lol which I don’t. But my palette preference is more towards Caribbean, Indian and culturally black American dishes. What I love about Quebec is that Quebecois culture has a lot of significant dishes. Since I’ve made this video I’ve had the pleasure of trying moose meat, bagels, rockaberry pie and other great foods from good restaurants. I still prefer the food in Ontario lol but I don’t think it’s fair for me to say it’s better based on my personal taste in food lol
Love your videos!!! I'm am seriously considering moving to Montreal as a nurse. Do you have any recommendations for a mother of 1 in the montreal area?!?!
If you move here I recommend to move to Dorval (west side of Montreal) you will be around other English people and it is an affordable area. So you will find overall its easy to get comfortable 😊
Nice video ❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm moving to Montréal in the new year... Do you have any good links for black hairdressers, lashes etc. Im definitely going to miss my hairdresser lash and nail girl.
Unfortunately I don’t have any links for black hair dressers. But for nails check out instagram.com/plushbyjess. She is dope ! And my lashes link i can’t find their page for some reason (I clearly never do my lashes) but if I remember it or find it I will link it
🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
Something that u strived for was in another state so that’s understandable 💯
Hi
Will it be hard for immigrants to get their first job without canadian experience?.
Hey! Out of interest, what is your line of work? I've always heard you need to be bilingual to get a job in Montreal, amazing you got one so quick.
Hey Joanna ! I work I'm the Graphic Design field. Some job titles I've held while here include Photo Editor, Logo Designer and Social Media Manager. I was nervous about my options so I broadened my search and was also able to land to other jobs at call centers - but I didnt take the jobs 😊
You don't have to be bilingual to get a job here. But once you're here if you plan on staying learning french would be great. You have lots of practice with the people around you. I'm a slow learner but I will get there 😝
For most jobs, yes!
There are certain ethnic groups in Quebec that are predominant in Toronto and vice versa. Generally speaking Toronto has more Asians, Indians (India), Europeans, Jamaicans. Montreal has more Lebanese, Algerian, Moroccan, Europeans, Haitians, and native French (France). The native Quebecois are very racist towards English Canadians (W.AS.P.) and it makes no difference if you speak fluent French. Therefore, if you are English Canadian from another province, I would not recommend you move here. Most of the English Canadians have left Quebec. With regards to food Montrealers like hotdogs, French fries, poutine, bagels, chicken. Torontonians like a variety of ethnic dishes especially Asian, muffins, pasta.
You make me want to move to Montreal now
We welcome you with open arms 🤗🥴😆
Im throwing you a bunch of likes your way for this video :)
Thank you !!!! 🤗
if you go to shops and restaurants in the downtown area they will speak to you in english.
downtown near McGill university and Concordia, LaSalle, cote des neiges and ndg are all predominantly English areas
if you looking for a good carribean restaurants got to lloydies, mango bay, v-lounge, boom cuisine , carribean paradise.
I've just immigrated to Montreal. My French is in beginning level and I really want to learn French as soon as possible, in order to do that, I am planning to pretend I don't know English and use my limited French only. What do you think of this idea? Is it bad that I kind of lie?
Max Hope welcome to Montreal! Its a franglish ( french a english city ) which is perfectly bilingual in alot of places so you shouldn’t feel bad standing saying the truth! You will learn french all along ! 😁
Welcome! I agree with Memsss comment I dont believe you need to fake that you don't know English. Just make the effort to always try in French first. A lot of people do speak both languages in Montreal and are understanding especially of people who are trying to learn. They will try and help you understand 💖
If you want to move to quèbec the best place to rent is LAVAL
✅‼️‼️
omg im moving from toronto to montreal in 6 days kk gunna listen closely
Oh that's exciting ! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
How did it go? All the best here, Montreal is great!👍
Love it !! #Torii
😁
Have you ever thought about moving to the US? I heard a lot of people from Toronto are moving to the u.s because you can buy a house for cheap
You are only 3 hours away from Toronto by VIA Train and I think its a 1 hour flight :)
I haven’t flown there yet. But damn 1 hr!? That’s bless 😩
‼️‼️‼️‼️
Dang girl savings all the way $$$
how is the dating scene in Toronto?
for me personally it was a horrifying experience lol. As well as for my friends and some of my family. I can't speak for everyone though lol
But are you gunna share that food tho?😩😩❤️
Aaahhh I wish I could😂
the food looked good
Was the most important part 😂😂😂😂😆
I miss montreal ! it's my hometown I live in Edmonton
You should come back. It's such a beautiful city !
@@goldenxkenny I come back every year. I live Edmonton now. I should do a video Edmonton vs montreal cost of living
Please do. Is Edmonton cheaper?
Hows Edmonton ? Check bizza Caviar song Sky Edmonton
@@goldenxkenny I think so actually.
Ya the city is crazy with the crime I am seriously contemplating moving to Montreal but I heard the taxes are quite high there no? Also is there a large entrepreneurship community out there vs Toronto
The taxes are higher but what I did before moving is I wrote out an average of expenses in Toronto (rent, insurance, phone bill, gas, public transit/car note) and then I wrote out the an average for Montreal based on research and talking to people here. And in the end the tax is not equal to the inflation that is in Toronto. So yeah you might pay a few extra in tax but yous save large amount in cost of living. My apartment is $800 less than the equivalent I had in Toronto (I now pay $1k). So I already save $800 a month from rent and I save another $200 a month from car ins. Also my job here pays more than what I was being offered in Toronto. So you really have to sit down and write out all of the expenses and you will see in front of you if it's worth it or not
I believe entrepreneurship here is popular brcause there is a LOT of Quebec owned companies here. Which is more local businesses than I'm used to seeing. But I can not tell you off of personal experience if it is
@@goldenxkenny thank you for your reply i appreciate the insight so i have one question to ask did you say you moved to montreal first then you found a job or did you apply to some in toronto before heading there? also what would you recommend should someone first find a gig before moving there or just move there first and see if they could find a job plus isnt it tougher right now because of COVID ? PSA appreciate the insight love your videos!!!
@@MRZE506 I applied to some in Toronto first. I even went to a few interviews but didn't get hired anywhere other than like factory jobs or part time jobs but nothing in my field of study. Then I started looking in Montreal and got 2 job offers basically immediately after interviewing.
@@MRZE506 I would only recommend applying to jobs here if you have someone you can stay with if you get hired. Because I'm not sure if jobs are willing to wait for you to make the move. I stayed with my boyfriends family when I got hired. But I have an acquaintance who wanted to move here and saved up a few months rent, then made the move. Once she got here she started her job hunt. Bachelor apartments here are cheap so 3-6 months rent can be saved up in a short time if you're dedicated and depending on your circumstances of course.
l love Toronto and l would love to move there but the cost of rent is too high
shesallaboutthebusiness waaaaay too high. Even if I had the money for it I’m not sure I would waste my money like that
You said it right :)
POOtinnn
which call centres did you work at?
shesallaboutthebusiness there was one in downtown Montreal I can’t remember the name of it but it was for selling rbc insurance. I’ll see if I can look it up. And the other one was surprisingly in Laval it was customer service for Telus
@@goldenxkenny l didn't know they have call centres in Laval most of them are downtown
I dont really agree about the black culture being weak if you go out of anglos areas, being black myself if you go out of downtown and in areas like North Montreal or even Ahuntsic, we are really well mixed with whites and latinos. Mostly all black people like me here comes from french speaking areas of africa or Haiti. Aside from that i think we are more integrated and respected here than i was in Toronto. but aside from that, nice video :)
Keblin The Doctor I live in Montreal nord. When I say weak I just mean that numbers wise if you compare to Toronto there is waaaaaay more diversity in Toronto so it has a larger influence on the culture. If you turn on the radio in Toronto you can and will hear black artists from the cities music being supported and endorsed.
But this is due to a higher population there and also. In an English city you have black immigrants coming from everywhere. Where as here is mostly French influenced African countries (example Congo) and French island (Haiti).
It’s not weak overall. I mean in comparison to where I’m coming from. Compare caribana to carifesta. Even after your remove the people that travel from other countries. You can look at pictures of cariabana from the 90s before it attracted overseas visitors. It was still a way larger parade than when I went to Carifesta. It’s because of the population difference.
Golden Kenny okay maybe i misunderstood that part, english is not my native language so im sorry
And don’t be afraid of learning French just baby steps! If you try they try
'' Nightlife is shit in Montreal theres like 6 clubs and all in the same street. If i wannna party i go to Toronto '' !!!! first time i hear that one lol
New subbie💕
Subbed back 😍💗
Lol Edmonton just got Popeyes. Alberta is way more behind than Montreal with franchise.
However Montreal has more local food instead of these big franchise and I prefer them instead.
Well so far i havent found any good local carribbean food or sea food options. Franchise or not I still feel like the food options are not as good as when I was in Toronto. The options arent terrible though
Namely Quebecois.
Is it hard to make a life in Montreal if you don’t speak French?
It’s not hard but but people are not shy to tell you how they feel about you not knowing French. It was hard the first maybe 6 months getting used to the language barrier
I’m planing on moving to la to start my acting career
@keyzone skits Good luck it's REALLY REALLY competitive in the film industry here in LA. I'm a film major and it's a struggle sometimes but make a lot of connections! And you should do fine
Tu es tellement belle que je m'abonne sans même voir la vidéo :)
Tu es si gentil, merci
5:15 If you find the food in Montreal to be more expensive, that would be because you don't know where to shop. I would advise you go to Middle-Eastern grocery stores around Parc or Acadie Metro stations. Prices are literally half of what you'd pay at Loblaws. *edit* 9:50 Presumably, if you think there's six clubs, you've really only been on St-Laurent, which is a common mistake fore newbies in the city. You should try out other areas, including a bunch that aren't downtown and yet have clubs. 10:30 Most people would agree that it's actually a good thing not to have low class American chains and to instead have local eateries that are owned and operated by real people. I'd recommend you try places like Le Petit Alep (Syrian food), Agrikol (Haitian food) or Pho Tay Ho (Vietnamese food). 11:00 Unfortunately, street food is prohibited in Montreal, unless it comes from one of those fancy and expensive licensed food trucks. 13:20 If you were in Toronto, you simply could not get services in French at all.
Lou Dem well I usually shop at super c or the Chinese grocery Kim phat. But for example a can of ackee in Toronto i can get for like $9 over here it’s almost $14
Lou Dem but I will definitely check out those groceries thank you !
@@goldenxkenny No problem! My Vietnamese step mom always goes to Kim Phat as well. It's always interesting to see the differences in perspective.
Lou Dem I agree it is 😊 and I’m open minded so my mind and perspective can change. So I appreciate you sharing spots I can try. I love Haitian food. The Haitian spots here are so bless ! Right now my dilemma is the Jamaican restaurants here are not good and I have no options for sea food boil. And I’m sorry but if you have been to Toronto or are going nothing can compare to Osmos. But I think when I made this video I was still very very home sick. Change is not an easy thing so I might have been overly favouring home. But it’s still just an opinion. I’m not against people preferring Montreal’s food. But personally I still prefer my options in Toronto
Very subjective ! One person, one opinion .......Maybe after a few years ,you will see things differently.Wish you the best. The French are not that bad.
Hahaa I agree ! I think I will have to make a follow up video. 🤣 they cant be that bad if my boyfriend is from here. I can be a bit harsh though. Just wait till I make a video about everything that is wrong with Toronto. The list is extensive. No city is perfect. But for sure a lot of my feelings started out negative because moving to a new place can be a lot to take in !
Bonjour ça va
You should have come in Mtl 2010
I was in High school :(
If you would have asked me for directions in english,I would not have been rude !
The world is a better place with people like you 💖👋🏽 For that reason I am putting more effort to learn the language of this city. It's the least I can do 😅
No Jamaican restaurants what’s that’s a deal breaker lol I remember when I was in Montreal I asked a lady for direction and she straight up told me a in clear English “I don’t speak English sorry” 🙄
There are a few. Maybe 1 or 2 but they're not good 😂 lol some people really dont speak english and some people are just straight up rude 😫
Yes there are, especially in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. 50,000 Jamaicans live in Montreal. I'm Jamaican and visit Montreal often. Might be lower now. Start a Jamaican Montreal, facebook page.
@@kwacou4279 please do recommend any good Jamaican restaurants you know! I am very open to trying. The ones I have eaten at so far I personally wouldnt consider good in comparison to Jamaican food I've had else where. 😊

Wow Toronto ranked higher in restaurants, culture and nightlife, arguably the three things the whole world knows Montreal crushes Toronto in. Well, the good news is as you discover more and more of the city, you'll start to realize how wrong you were haha bienvenue à Montréal! You're gonna love it!
You might be able to change my mind about the restaurants 🤔 I will continue to explore! But yeah my opinions are just based off of my experience so far 😆
