    In this episode SINGLE STOREY EXTENSION #4 - CONCRETE POUR, the guys continue to prepare footings ready for pumping concrete later in the day. Tony and John are in the foundation trench having to hand dig footings to get a nice square edge footing. Digging down to get a 2.5m footing they have to tackle the blue lias stone. Pete is at hand to construct concrete forms which act as plywood shuttering ready for the concrete footings.The trusty yanmar vio17 is in action and Joe is on the cormidi c85 mini dumper.John sets up the laser level to ensure when pouring concrete into footings they get good level foundation footings. Using a water pump the footings are drained, the concrete pump arrives and we are ready to pour footings. During the pouring process the concrete vibrating poker disperses any air bubbles that might form and few checks with the laser level, job done.
    PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

    • @neomancer86
      @neomancer86 Před 3 lety

      from the last videos, because of the trees

    • @wayneleone
      @wayneleone Před 3 lety

      Yep. Roots could get below a regular footing and disturb it over time.

    • @davebadger100
      @davebadger100 Před 3 lety +6

      Nothing to do with roots. Its to do with the type of soil and proximity of trees to a building. Trees are notorious for affecting water content of soil. In periods of sustained drought trees will suck enormous amounts of water from the ground causing shrinkage in soil. This leads to the ground shrinking away from footings causing subsidence. Clay is particularly susceptible to this. Conversely in periods of sustained wet weather clay and other absorbent soils can suffer "heave", whereby they expand so much it forces the footings up. By digging deeper footings you mitigate shrinkage and heave by getting down to solid ground below the water table not affected by water content changes.

    • @wayneleone
      @wayneleone Před 3 lety

      @@davebadger100 thanks for explaining. Always thought the worry was roots would heave/press against or even the foundation.

    Is the foundation that deep because the clay is in poor condition? Ive never seen trenches dug so deep for a foundation 😂

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  Před 3 lety +1

      The footings had to be so deep due to the surrounding trees, and the risk of ground shrinkage or swell they can cause.
      The worst part is, they're being chopped down soon 😔
      All the best, John 😊
