except you wont be able to make a "real" call or a "real" sms. You can use 4g and 5g sure. But you would have to call using facetime or messenger and whatnot

@@Boxtermaiti Are IPads not cabable of that with mobile connections? I'm not an Apple user, but I have a Samsung Tab S7 with mobile connection and with a SIM it can 100% act like a smartphone, complete with SMS and calls. I don't use it that way, but it can.

@@Artimidorus the mini is a size you can fit in your pocket and has all the upgrades they didn't unclude in the iphone while being literally 1/2 the price of the iphone
4g/5g lte in many tablets just means mobile data, but no actual phone number in some cases. The numbers generated for the devices are not capable of making calls or receiving texts. So if you are okay with having a second cheaper phone for calls, then the ipad can be your alternate device.
If we could fold that ipad...

@@kilobravo3533 Because it's greenwashing bullshit. Apple saves $5/box per charger, probably adds up to hundreds of millions of dollars, and then they make $50 by having their customers need a USB-C to lightning charging brick that only they can make. (Lightning is proprietary.)

@@anythingoriginal repairing a car is so different than replacing a phone lol. Replacing parts on a phone are pretty easy. The problem with apple is that you can't even bring the phone to a store for a relatively cheap repair

Tesla is at least a bit more defensible, since they eschewed a lot of standard safety features for their lithium batteries in favour of raw capacity.
Not that I'd purchase one anyway; having to pay a subscription to access half of the car's luxury features does not sit well with me.

This is no contest lol, Snapdragon 888 has surpassed the A13 from 2019. A14 from 2020 is faster. A15 will be evem faster than that.

First thought, Anthony was the perfect person to present this, especially given us background for this area, and very practical approach to things.

I feel like specs (performance specifically) are really starting to not matter. Even phones that are multiple years old are still so overkill for 99% of the average user's tasks
That’s the way it’s going. I still have my iPhone 8 and it’s more than enough for day to day stuff. Even the camera isn’t bad and it’s quite old now.

Sd 835 and a11 bionic are still not utilized 60% by even heaviest tasks.
it would help if phone games weren't so terrible, for me most phones have been overkill for a few years now, because i've been uninterested in all the garbage mobile games.

What I’ve personally noticed is that they’ve recently with their newest devices is that they do two years of basically the same phone but the newer one with just minuscule differences, I think the iPhone 14 pro will have something that definitely makes it a newer device. I currently have a 12 Pro max and I don’t see a difference at all with this years device enough to distinguish that it’s newer.

Its just like the S models, Iphone 12 is the main design, Iphone 13 is just a little upgrade. They should stick to the S models to. Instead changing numbers.

The iPhone 13 is a clear upgrade for people with an iPhone X or older. I’m still rocking the 1st gen SE so the 13 mini looks like a seriously good upgrade to me.
I feel like people expect to much to improve or change in the space of one year. Frankly, a better camera, battery life and smaller notch is what people should be accustomed to now. Not to mention that baseline storage is 128GB now, not 64GB.
i upgraded from an X and holy shit it’s insane, my old phone also was pretty bad an in need of a repair but the sheer amount of features and quality of life changes is easily worth it

I'm low-key beginning to wonder if Apple is just holding those features as an ace up their sleeve. If sales of the new iPhone start to drop, they can unveil a new and revolutionary iPhone, with USB-C and always-on display.
Ofc, they drop feed their consumers, and they eat is too. Like this year they got 120 on the pro versions, to sell the pro. But next year it'll be on iphone 14 too, but the pro will probably have something that androids already had for the past years and call innovation.

I’m still rocking the Xs, and it runs great to this day. I might actually get the 13 Pro because of that butter smooth refresh rate though… I can’t imagine why someone who has a 12 would upgrade though.
Have a 12 pro max and upgrading, worth it for the 120hz and longer battery
I upgraded from a Xs and the 13 Pro was an awesome upgrade. The screen is just slightly bigger but still comfortable to hold especially compared to the massive Max model. Nothing “revolutionary” but still a nice upgrade.

Nice comparison. I was wondering what really was/is so similar and different from Apple iPhone 12th generation and the 13th generation.
Fun fact: I was also willing to know the cons of even just using the 13th generation of iPhone to see what is so similar to it's predecesor (the iPhone 12) and this really helped.

Steve Jobs launched the original iPhone with a presentation that looked like it was put together in the cab ride over....but it didn't matter, because ultimately the technology spoke for itself.
When a company tries to "wow" you with pointless cinematography and hollow "percentage" figures, you know the product/tech is lacking.
I no longer have faith that people actually _care_ how lacking or not the technology is. Seeing how apathetic-at-best and angry-at-worst people are about folding phones made me realize that it’s not that innovation is dead, it’s that people hate change and reject it as an unnecessary gimmick.
@@abubakrakram6208 well, that's maybe because folding phones honestly are not that impressive. Sure the technology behind it is superb, but it feels like a routine innovation. It's tepid and boring, despite its intricacies. Compare that with something like that phone that had a microscope in it and people were going crazy for online.

A lot of people do have tablets, why have both when you can have your same phone plan built into a phone that turns tablet.
Maybe you use your phone for work and want to take notes/ draw on a tablet.
Maybe you play phone games plus this may create higher standards for phone games if they realize most phone players have tablet size screens.
I mean you're basically just saying "cultural doesn't really care" which is the free market and I can agree to an extent but that's not an excuse for anti innovation.
A lot of people shit on technological advancement for everything in history for that exact excuse. "Eh it's not the standard at the moment who cares"

@@tamilcom1002 Issues with storage as it still had a 32GB model that would fill fast and the device would crash. the horrific baseband caused Apple to issue a 4-year long service program so people could get their issue fixed. no wireless charging, lack of fast charging (above 5w), and then generally a bug-ridden device. iPhone 8 was a much more reliable device in my opinion and stood the test of time better than the iPhone 7.
@@TheUnkown223 Source? Not the phones fault you fill it up too fast. Maybe if apple would finally include a microSD slot it would be trivial. Not sure how the device itself would be bug ridden.. maybe the software it shipped with could be, but there have obviously been updates since then. I have used an iPhone 7+ for years and I have had 0 issues.

I just got my first USB-C iPad, and I miss how easy the charger was to insert into the lightning port of the old one.

@@shadeshiest22 charging speeds has nothing to do with the connector. But lightning, by design, is limited to USB 2.0 data transfer speeds. And with that slowing you down, transferring 1TB worth data would take over half of a day (if we count inefficiency of MTP).

I thought about this pretty long and hard today, but I decided that for me it’s just not practical. It would be annoying enough in pockets that I’d leave it at home, and then I’d miss texts and calls-arguably the most important things a phone does.
I also thought of it but it is just, idk not the best thing to do NOW.
My V2 mini does not have the dialing app, so the only way it works as a phone is by using VOIP service like google voice.
Upgrading a phone is staring to feel like a laptop where it’s more of a pain to switch over and login to all your accounts by upgrading than the features you gain year to year and I’m probably just going to wait for them to break to replace them instead of replacing them year to year.
I dont disagree at all, im still rocking my S9 just because I cant be bothered to go through the pain of upgrading to a new device which may or may not have new features that I will likely not use.

@@krimstix Who knows if the incremental speed differences will even allow that. The presentation is so ridiculous and compares their speed to the "leading android or chromebook" product. The leading product is probably really cheap to move volume and has basic specs like a free subsidized android phone and a cheap arm processor based chromebook, which are easy to beat. The premium google based offering someone buying an apple product would buy instead, might be way faster and still a lot cheaper. Even the battery time, what does 1.5 hours of extra time mean? Is that standby time, hd video time, talk time? They spent so much time in the presentation pushing cherry picked meaningless metrics, and claiming it's the best ever, but it's likely a very minor bump that is going to run similar speeds with the update.

Sarcastic, but fair. The Apple Event was a marketing show on a Disney level. If it had been an engineer doing the presentation, it would've sounded more like Anthony:
"Yeah, we made the battery last a little longer, moved the lenses around, shrunk the notch, and there's a faster dynamic refresh on the screen. Pretty cool, huh? I mean, it's not earth-shattering, but it's only been a year, so we're pretty proud of it. Hey, you wanna get some nachos?"
@@nickwallette6201 Agreed, however we gotta be honest, they didn't move lenses around, they put bigger lenses, pretty signifcantly bigger lenses on.
But to be honest, we are at the point, where upgrades are going to be incremental, I know for sure that apple has faster processors, and camera lenses with higher MP and better everything, but only release a little at a time purposely, because if they release it all at once it's amazing for a year, than the next year upgrades are terrible.
Samsung on the other hand went from the s10 and jumped to the s2o and threw everything in it. With the S21. they pretty much kept everything the same because they had nothing better that they could add. They only changed the outside, and fixed the part of the phones that had problems, like the autofocus on the camera.
Now the s21 to the s22 ultra and so on, is always going to be a major outside hardware design overhaul, because in terms of the insides, there's not much more they can actually do.
Samsung needs to stop marketing that terrible 8K video quality like its good lol it's so terrible.
I genuinely believe at this point Apple is just testing how many times they can sell their customers the same phone.
