And if you were scuba diving I would be willing to bet that the salt water would kill it anyways lol! So yeah, pretty much waterproof. You could use the thing in the shower probably lol(though I don't know why anybody would want to do that).

I regularly jump in the swimming pool with my phone and take it to Lake Tahoe and shoot underwater videos. I've been doing this with my Samsung phones since the S8 Plus. Currently have the s20+ and just preordered the fold 3. Being able to still go in the water absolutely sold me on this. With trade, I paid $1200 for the Z Fold 3, folding case with s-pen and galaxy buds pro, 4mos CZcams premium, 4mos Siriusxm and Spotify. Should be here in a week. A monster deal!

Bringing along a ton of testing kit with him - thermal camera, latency tester, his own monitor, even a screwdriver set (though they banned him from cracking one open) - to cram every conceivable test into his hour or so hands-on. While every other review was, like, playing two games and saying "well, it seems alright, I guess", complaining they didn't have enough time to do more - but, well, Linus managed it, so you clearly weren't trying hard enough, my friends.

I would assume that writing in Chinese works the same way as with Japanese, that is: you type how the words are pronounced and then get the hieroglyphs to choose from.

from what I have gathered, Chinese alphabet is pretty compilicated. However, most people actually find it easier to type them than write them. In fact so much so, that there is a whole bunch of people who wouldnt be able to write chinese i they couldnt type it. Korean is so much simpler.

He didn't only get 2 hours with it, from my understanding, but that he was showing it off 2 hours before Samsung did... Or at least that's what he said in the video, or something to that effect(i.e. he just got it a bit ago after someone on his staff set it up, and he's quickly doing a video because it's so last minute)(of course, "last minute" for LTT is probably "last week" for anyone else)

@@angeldeschain0they’re probably just used to people under appreciating their work as a software engineer. Since it goes hand in hand with the hardware used which typically gets the majority of the credit.
Linus is also on the hardware end of tech reviewers, given that he makes a lot of videos about individual components of computers. Whereas someone like MKBHD is more tech experience-focused which gives a lot more credit to software.

It's just not something that anyone other than Linus cares about so I get why they aren't fixing it
Linus, I think the "distortion" of the underscreen camera you are describing is a diffraction of light caused by the grid of display elements right in front of the lens. You can see that each pixel element causes a vertical and horizontal streak of light from the lens flare of the bright light source. I don't think it's going to affect anything else than the flares (and broken, but with this lens there's gonna be none unless you get too close to it). It's fascinating to see what a compromise this is and how the two elements interact with each other. I still think this is mighty impressive tech.
The difference (or lack thereof) in sharpness is unaffected by the screen - only lens flares on bright light sources. The sharpening in my opinion is just common temporal denoising, the sensor in this camera is probably as tiny as possible to make the whole trick easier. Even in static shots you can see how the camera smoothes out your skin, while maintaining sharp (oversharpened even) edges. I don't think there's any crazy postprocessing being done here.

you can do the side by side view if you tap on the Icon in the app selection menu, and then hit open in split screen view. you can also do the pop up and "keep open" options there too.

About the multiple apps on the same screen; if you go to the used-apps screen and tap on the app's logo at the top of their respective window, you get several options, like opening in a pop-up, or split-screen.

To make your display look the best and vivid mode you have to set the color temperature to as cool as it can go... If you have the color temperature set to warm it doesn't look right and that's where you see some of that over saturation

This is the best implementation of the under screen camera I've seen. For those applications that make the the under screen camera important, you can just use that. But if you care about quality, you can just fold the phone and use the better camera and still have an electronic viewfinder to see yourself in. This eliminates the downside of the worse quality of the under screen camera.

am a note series fun but since the note is kind of not getting new phones made, am considering the fold but I feel it still has a few years to perfection. point being, my location is not good(lot of dust) for foldables and until they deal with that...which am sure they will as they keep improving the product...and that is a few years down the road

That’s good to hear. My girlfriend is from Warsaw and she really struggled understanding the Fold 2.
It's basically the same device, slightly faster CPU, both cosmetically and software identical give or take speaker positioning. It's even exactly the same camera sensors, just positioned differently. The only hardware difference is the under display camera and a different metal composite. The fold 2 had exactly the same hydrophobic coating and is indeed also waterproof to the same standard, it just wasn't given the official IP certification while samsung figured out if they get back any water damaged phones. They didn't, so the IP certification makes it official.
The higher refresh rate on the external screen is also just a software tweak, as is the "hybrid" S pen support, there's no new hardware in the phone for the pen, it's just software support.
The fact that they didn't make a silo for an actual S pen shows you just how little the internals have changed. If it were a PC then you've just got a new case made of a different metal to the last one, a few extra pixels to try and hide the hole they needlessly made in the internal display for some reason, which already has 4 other cameras, and the CPU has been swapped out. Everything else is as it was before.

@@nacho3570 no, it doesn't. There is no digitiser, hence the USB charging. The tip is capacitive so the phone knows where it is on the screen, and the S pen Bluetooth sends the thickness of the line depending on how much the retractable tip is pushed up inside the pen. Unlike all other s pens, these don't have solid tips. They are made of retractable foam nibs.

Instead, there are two separate digitizers on each side of the phone. It's most of the way through 2021 and CZcams on the PC won't even let you select an audio track from a "stereo" recording or just set it to mono. Having to open a streaming video in something like VLC instead just so you can use both of your ears is obnoxious for the end user and they can't play ads through it. I don't think he's going to get through to them about something even more niche but still quite important.

The whole half bent CZcams view is on the fold 2. I use it when I'm laying in bed and don't feel like holding it to watch a video lol
Now I did preorder the 3 because my job deals with water and the main point for me was the water resistance.
Adding the pen support is actually a pretty big deal for me, I have been looking for a good tablet so I can markup large PDF's on site or on the go, or taking had written notes. I know the Samsung tablets (or even Ipads if I decided to go into the Apple ecosystem) are a hell of a lot cheaper and work very well but having just one device on me is very tempting, plus it just looks like a good device in general.

Having the new fold with a system that correctly distinguishes between z fold pens and normal s pens and reject normal ones is actually a pretty genius and idiot proof mode. It not only warns you but it completely refuses to work with them, so people will not ignore that warning. Good job samsung!
@Waldel Martell the screen is not glass but plastic. Therefore, other spens not made for the fold will scratch it.

@Gilles Nullens i didnt want to go in to the technicalities of the screen but: "non-removable plastic screen protector that covers a layer of extremely fragile ultra-thin glass.".
The thing it does not matter if the screen, has glass, or even diamonds for that matter, if on top of it it has plastic it will scratch like plastic. So, it is a special s pen with a "softer" and retractable tip to reduce the risk of scratching the plastic.

@@minorcek No it's because the other ones are made for a glass screen which the Z Fold has but not at the top. The top is plastic so it would get scratched which would have a lot of people complaining about their 2000$ phone being scratched. Instead they made pens that are ensured not to scratch it. And if you can afford that phone and really want the pen I do not think you care about the extra cost. Just imagine the outrage if apple made an accesssory for their phones that will probably harm the phone if you use it. Like a magsafe wallet with metal spikes on the back. It will stratch the back to all hell.

I love the under screen approach. It's more than enough for video calls and as a person who's made max 5 selfies in his life I don't really care about its quality lol You can use the rear one for selfies too anyway so yeah - overall a win decision.
i have love hate with it as my bothers ( and girlfriend in the past ) some how they know how to use the camera on my phone 📱 to get the better of me so i cover up / disable mine whenever it's not in use. 🤔 if Samsung is planing on having a thermal image and 3D scanner mode? so 2k freking 🤪K i don't see that selling well but i was so wrong with the 1200 iPhones🤷♂️
I take a lot of selfies when traveling with the wife and being able to do a selfie using the main back camera and the outside display is freaking awesome.

love this phone, but find myself using duo1 all the time over it
the only time i really prefer the fold3 is when the missing hinge area of the display is important.
in fact the duo1 is so good now after updates and learning microsoft duo specific gestures that i'm debating weather to buy a second duo1 over getting a duo2 ... the price of the duo1 seems like they are giving them away.
duos are NOT waterproof tho.
I watched the video but would STILL like some help understanding. Am I able to split the screen and fold it partially, like being able to make it look like a mini laptop, LOL?! I would like to be able to watch CZcams videos on the top screen or folded half while I work on documents or research with the bottom half or screen. Using either the settings option to have the split screen/screen adjust, or just adding another tab/box on top of whatever app you’re using and resizing it, is it possible to use it like this? The Z FLIP has the stuff hinge and screen split/adjusting, does the Z FOLD?! If not, why the heck haven’t they given the FOLD the option of the stiffening hinge and split screen/tabs? I just wanna hold the FOLD like a mini laptop and watch videos while I research or write stuff. :) would kinda be bummed or suck to not have a FOLD where it can hold the folded position like the FLIP, or the multi screen option, being able to use multiple apps on screen while still partially folded or open.
I think this is the first one that I would consider "good enough". Might even start saving and try to get the Fold 4 when that comes out...

Watching this on my fold 2! So excited for this! Just wish i could upgrade to it without sending my carrier my severed arm as payment.
And to be clear, the partnerships have been in progress and at least most of the ones demoed have been implemented for the fold 2.
My only major issue driving the fold 2 for about a year now is the support by Dexcom for my glucose monitor never happened. I have had to keep my old iPhone in my bag to monitor since I switched. That's something I feel is super important and should be addressed by Samsung at some point. It's super annoying and makes monitoring my Blood Sugar levels lesz effective.
