I've just started putting small dreads in my hair after dying and washing it last night and I was very curious about how often to wash them. Thank you so much. My dreads are just over a 1 month old. You answer every question I needed answered. I wash my hair every 7-10 days. I never really washed my hair a lot in the first place. I have naturally coarse, curly, frizzy hair. So it's about what I washed it to begin with. The Frizz is horrible at this point. I thought man it seems after I wash my hair my dreads are a lot loser and falling out, but this video was point on and helped me so much. Thanks for taking the time do help people like me with their questions.

I just did my first wash 4 days after starting my new short hair (3 inches) backcombed dreads. I used a hair net while getting my hair wet, then remove it to apply/massage a teaspoon of dreads shampoo on my scalp and then, placed back during rinsing. So far soo good, baby dreads still on and the best of all, is that is was able to stay under the water and relax for a while, without worrying too much about my young dreads falling apart. Best feeling ever after the first wash!

The sebaceous glands (oil producing glands) may be a bit unbalanced when first starting dreads as I'm now noticing, you are right about setting a pattern. It's like eating and sleeping, patterns create balance.

Hey Man your vids are dope af,
I just started my locks beginning of April and I waited about 9 days, I'm wondering how often can I wash them since its been 2 days now since the first wash. In your vids you ask that the person wait and allow your scalp to learn not to produce so much oils as before deciding to get dreadlocks. But the thing is my whole head isn't dreadlocks, only a small portion of the front is regular fine Mexican hair so do i only wash it with my dreads using a dread shampoo that I recently bought? or Do i wash it separately everyday using like Dove Shampoo. I was rocking the man bun for a while so i do not have side hair just practically the top of my head only has hairs. I have about 30-40 dreads. HELP!

    • @LazyDreads
      @LazyDreads  Před 9 lety +11

raddom tutorials Gels, hairsprays and similar products are 'holding' products - they hold the hairs in a certain position for a certain style etc. While it's tempting to use them on dreadlocks to keep the hair 'held' in a more dreadlock-like way, it is not beneficial to the dreadlocks - 'holding' the hair in place stops the hair from being able to form new knots and progress. There may also potentially be issues with washing leftover products back out from inside the dreadlocks.

Hey babe. Been watching your videos like a mad man. Started them by twist and rip. On the 3rd day. I only wash my hair once every 3 to 4 weeks and have been like that for a long long time. As I said in another post I use baking soda, lemon and essential oils to wash and apples cider vinegar and essential oils to condition. Do you think its ok to still wait 3 to 4 weeks or should I go to 2 weeks since they are new? All your videos are aimed to the average person who washes every day or 2. Also is ok to still use apple cider vinegar or will it make it too soft to dread? Lastly, i put no heat on my hair ever... so your drying video lost me at heat ... but while they are new and tiny do u think I can get away with not adding heat?

Question! Will dreads thicken up over time? I notice new dreads are small and thinner.

My dreads were started over the course of a week and I started washing them pretty much every second day/every day because we were cycling (to Amsterdam!) for most of that week, so my head got gross pretty quickly under a helmet at 30 degrees, 6 hours a day. The loose hair also needed to be clean for the backcomb method to work. Essentially what I'm asking is whether there are any long-term disadvantages to having washed them that early if none of them came undone in the two weeks since?

Tefans97 If there were going to be negative effects from washing too early or too often, you'd know straight away, if they've held up after the washing, then they're doing fine.

Question: is it easier for thinner/less wide dreads to lock up and grow faster then thicker/ wider dreads? I have norised that the ones i have that are thicker are alot smother then the thinner ones. Does this affect the growth at all? Thankful for answer

When you say washing does that include running them under water in the shower? or is it okay to get them wet?

Lazy Dreads I've been steered so many different ways I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. At that extent it's getting annoying to try and grow dreads. I've been having so many problems trying to keep my new dreads/twists together at the root that I've been too scared to wash them because I think they're going to come out. The person that did them said not to get them wet for a week. Then I can start washing them. My friend said not to wash them cause, for how loose they were, they'd most likely come out so to wait a few months.
It's been about 2 months and I haven't washed them and they still loose and bunchy at the root no matter how many time I use my gel and retwist them like I've been instructed to do.
What the heck am I supposed to do?
And is it best to get a hair dryer to dry them after washing or will any towel do? How do I even go about drying nee dreads so I don't lose them completely?
I wish I knew about you way before I started this because I was looking up a lot of stuff before I even got them done and for some reason I never came actiss your videos. That's irritating even more.

I totally killed my.hair bleaching it before I made dreads to make my hair super dry, does this mean I should wait longer to clean it?

Do you cover your dreads every time you take a shower(besides when they need to be cleaned) or do you let them get wet?

I feel a little confused... I will be getting dreads soon, but, I dont shampoo my hair. Havent in months. (No its not greasy). Sooooo I should wash them after a week? Does washing them help lock if they aren't greasy? Like should I use one of those shampoos that like strip your hair of all oils? Should I not rinse new dreads in the shower for a week?

I want to get a few locks underneath at the back. About 1/3 of my hair locked. I already only wash my hair twice a week.
Thank you for this video :o)
