đ How old are you? 22
đ What are you studying? I just finished studying English Literature at the University of Exeter. But we are students for life, and I hope that I will continue learning even though I am out of structured education.
đWhat are your favourite books? âą 200 book recommendatio...
đ Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
đ Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. Ruby has writers block and goes to Venice yet whenever i have a minor inconvenience I go to bed đ
I feel personally called out
đđ
Same đ I will be also in Venice in spirit đ
I have same problems. I usually go somewhere to unblock it đ
Sometimes i find reading a book helps. Just sit down for ages, reading your book and eventually, plop, the poo will come out
"A realist, in Venice, would become a romantic by mere faithfulness to what he saw before him." Arthur Symons said that and i do think he is very right. Venice feels like magic, it feels enchanted and it is ever so inspiring and provides so much scope for the imagination (as Anne would say). Thank you, Ruby, for always putting so much effort into your vlogs and videos. I find it so amazing that you always give us background information on places, buildings, writers ect., itÂŽs incredibly interesting and helpful at the same time. It makes all of your content enjoyable and comforting . I wish you all the luck with your writing and hope you get over your writerÂŽs blockđ=)
I wonder how Anna would react to Venice truthfully. She would see something not even the Shelleys see, I think :)
And thank you so much for your lovely words too Kara x
@@RubyGranger8 Always. I think it might be interesting for Anne since Venice is so fundamentally different from what sheÂŽs used to =) also thx so much for answeringđđđđ
Just wanted to say thank you for all you do Ruby! Your videos have helped me immensely through all the difficult times! Iâm ending my very first year as a community college English Literature student and having no one to relate to or talk with has been so hard (as Iâm a first-gen college student in my family) so again, thank you for making these videos, and helping a lot of us feel safe, happy, and understood. Wishing you all the best of luck
Oh Ashley - this is such a lovely comment to read, honestly, though I'm sorry things have been lonely. It's hard, especially at university, when you're introverted and seem to like different things from your peers. I hope that things pick up and I'm sending lots of love xx
A wonderful comment. â€
Ruby, I have never seen your face so gloriously animated as when you exited the Vivaldi concert. This is by far my favourite video of yours. Once you are home you will find that you can never adequately describe Venice to anyone who has never been. Watching your video was like talking to someone that has just returned from that jewel of a city.
Your feelings of nostalgia for a place you've never been, my wife felt when I took her there for the first time about six years ago. She put that down to years of my effusive ramblings.
CaffĂš Florian is always my first, and last, stop in Venice to read Byron's 'Ode to Venice'. Venice has always been in peril, the opening lines to Byron's ode being, "Venice! Venice! when thy marble walls
Are level with the waters, there shall be
A cry of nations o'er thy sunken halls,
A loud lament along the sweeping sea!"
Thank you for a stunning video.
Hi Ruby. A few years ago after I graduated high school I also went to Venice (and then Paris) by myself. I was reminiscing on this when you were going out to dinner by yourself, as my first time doing this was in Venice. I was bullied in high school, and had no one to go on a trip with, when suddenly I came to the startling realization that I was holding myself back by waiting on someone to accompany me, while I could just go by myself. Even now, when I tell people about my solo travels, they think it is such a strange thing to do. But it is so lovely for me, as youâve said in other videos, to realize there are kindred spirits around who would not find it strange at all đ€
This was so well done! Kept my attention, beautiful shots, wonderful mix of culture, literature, travel and art. YET it still felt a little like a video you might find on CZcams 10+ years ago- a sense of realness about yourself and how you share your story. There's a relatability here that so many CZcamsrs have forgotten. This was beautiful to watch, thank you for sharing
Thank goodness for writer's block, Ruby! You've produced one of the most interesting tours of Venice that I've seen. Much appreciate being taken along. Safe travels.
Ruby that journal entry was beautiful - it's always your little snippets of writing that add such a personal and artistic touch to your already wonderful videos.
When you read your journal and you wrote about what your dad said to you when you were small, I found that very lovely. Venice always makes me think of my dad. I have never been to Venice though through him feel connected to it. I don't see him as much as I would like and he has visited there quite a few times because of his work making and repairing violins. Each time he has been there he has got me a little glass figure that he has chosen because when he is there he thinks of me too. It is so interesting how we all think of each other and people that we love and how places connect us to people even if we ourselves have never been there.
This was a very lovely and peaceful watch. It seemed a very wonderful trip. â€â€â€
It is truly fascinating to be able to see a city like Venice with the eyes of the heart and not just through instagrammable shots or selfies! After all, this is the difference between a true traveler and a tourist. Retracing the paths and sensations of those who in past centuries came to enrich their baggage of experiences and sensations by tackling the Grand Tour! Venice, Florence, Siena, Rome, Naples and then even further south, up to Puglia and Sicily! Thank you so much for this beautiful cameo!
I don't think I know any content creator as inspiring as you. I genuinely feel at peace when I watch your videos. All the best on your novel Ruby. We're all rooting for you in the background! đ€đŒ
I wanted to comment the exact same⊠saw your comment and thought I will just agree here đâ€ïž so peaceful and also kinda inspiring⊠like a beautiful book can inspire , or classic music ! Thank you Rubyâ€ïž
This CZcams channel is the channel you never knew you neededâŠ.amazing soundtrack, gentle wafting in of tourist tips, with a refreshing view of Venice as a writerâŠ..
Can I just say, in the middle of revising for my A-Level exams I just had to make time to watch this. Really Ruby, thank you as Venice not only gave you inspiration to write, but watching this gave me inspiration to look ahead of the now, the studying and stress that seem to continue forever - but it's not forever. I feel like I can touch a tangible end to this horrid period of overload. I'm motivated anew to work not just for my grades, but to work for the knowledge that I can wonder at the world again soon, I can live freely again soon.
I also LOVED this line you wrote: "There is something about someone saying your name, even now, by myself in Venice, one hundred feet up in the skies of a sinking city" - simply exquisite, hauntingly magical. xx
As someone from Australia, where we dont have easily accessible history at our fingertips. I am so envious. My personal history and heritage is european/english and i would love to see and experience this history.
It actually makes me sad when i look at historical cities and places. I want to touch the streets they walked upon and the buildings they experienced. I feel connection through touch and experience and my lord, europe. Amazing.
I feel the need to be able to experience every place all at once đ„č đ !!!
Try reading. You donât have to travel. Buy books and read.
Ruby I'm so glad that my city has inspired you in your writing process. Venice is nostalgic and melancholic especially when it rains, and it's magical on spring days. Having a block as well, perhaps I should look into the option of spending a couple of days in the wonderful english countryside, maybe it'll work as it did for you đđ
This video is so dreamy, and so is your writing! Genuinely canât wait to read when youâre published. I hope Iâm not overstepping my mark in saying that Iâm so proud of you for taking such a lovely solo trip, I remember some years ago you mentioned some struggles with staying home alone. Youâve grown so much, and you seem so radiant in this video! â€
This brought back so many memories of my Venice trip last year with my mum and sister! Itâs such a breathtaking place but I think what makes it for me is that I get to see it through my mumâs eyes (she studied in Venice in her twenties). I love the idea that a damp student basement faces opposite the place where Byron wrote, and that despite the tourism, the gondoliers speak in their own dialect. This city is poetry, and it was moving to see it captured so openly. Thank you Ruby!
Ah sooo enjoyable to see your experience in Venice. The first bridge over a canal you spoke from, showing exposed bricks and windows covered with wrought iron, is actually my screen saver from a picture I took from that spot. My wife and I booked a tour of Venice, Florence and Rome. The day before the tour began I came down with Covid and spent the next two weeks in isolation in our room. My wife tested positive a few days after me. The Hotel La Fenice was wonderful and brought us food daily. We could look down into the courtyard that adjoined the Fenice Opera house and were awakened each morning to church bells in the distance. We will go back and your travelog only enforces our desire to go back sooner rather than later. Ciao!
So happy for you, Ruby! You're really spreading your wings now....and yours hopefully won't fall off! Thank you so much for sharing this! â€
Iâve been a subscriber for a couple of years now and I absolutely love your videos and how personal, delicate and beautiful they all are. Thank you for sharing your trip to Venice with us, much love đ«¶đœâ€ïž
What a romantic solo vacation, you've really showed Venice to full effect and included things I now feel the need to go back and see though I've been a few times! Great vlog, thanks for sharing.
So beautiful filming, so inspiring and literally nostalgicđ€ Thank you so much,Ruby!
Whenever I go to Venice I always look for "Bacari". They are these typical old time venice bars/taverns/inns generally not expensive where you can try "cicchetti" kind of venetian tapas usually based on smoked fish. And of course there you can always find good wines.
I seriously love coming home to a new vlog of your travels. They are seriously a great way to destress!
your videos bring me so much joy and comfort in this stressful time of exams and deadlines!
What a beautiful and artistic perspective of Venice! Looking forward to creating my own in July. Thank you for the inspiration â€
I hope you have the best time when you visit
This is the best interpretation of what can be defined as a journey. Well done! Venice is not a city to bite into, but a unique experience to drink in small sips. You are a real traveller! Hope your experience can inspire many other young travellers discovering Italy in the right way! Thank you!!
Thank you for this lovely vlog, Ruby đThe idea that Venice could be gone in 20 years is horrifying and deeply sad. I went to Venice c. 28 years ago & loved it - just the quiet and stillness of having no cars around is something I really love. Glad that you were so inspired by this enchanting city, and the Vivaldi concert sounds incredible!
Young lady I have watched countless blogs and yours are the only ones I truly enjoyed! They are done with such class and professionalism and the young curiosity that interestingly echoes the eagerness of an Emily BrontĂ« and the budding potentiality of a seasoned Edith Wharton. Please keep vlogging and learning. I wish you all the success and unfolding joyous surprises this world has to offer. đ
It is hard to find something that is exciting and peaceful at the same time.this video have this vibe
Thank you Ruby for taking us on your magical time in Venice. Your videos are always so up lifting and positive.
âdonât worry ruby I wonât let you fallâ
Iâm crying
Hi Ruby, sorry for my english I am french
I subscribed since a long time and I wanted to tell you how inspiring you are to me
Iâve been sick for the last years, so I couldnât go to university but you motivated me to go next year and try in september â€
all the best đ
Oh my goodness I tried to learn French and could not seem to make progress. Maybe I will try again. Your English is excellent.
Hi Ruby, i just wanted to comment and say this video made me feel a lil teary (in the best way!) There is so much magic in this vlog and you exude so much joy. I've only done one solo trip before but it was so soothing and special and i was really endearingly reminded of that through this video. Thank you for sharing this and I'm so happy you had a wonderful time in Venice - it's definitely a bucket list place of mine also đâšïž
I love your video and Venice is such a fascinating city! While standing on the edge of the lagoon, you spoke about experiencing a strange wave of nostalgia, even though you had never been there before. This reminded me of a passage from one of my favorite books, "The Moon and Sixpence" by Maugham. In chapter 50, Maugham writes that sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he belongs. I experienced this same feeling when I first arrived in England, possibly because of my love for English literature. Looking forward to watching more splendid vlogs from you :)
I really enjoyed this. Thanks Ruby, you are so inspiring and I am in my 50âs!!!!
I actually got teary watching you wonder around this incredible city. I have visited 2 times and always long to go again. You just renewed my desire to go again. It was a very beautiful video. Your thoughts, photography , and calmness was suburb. Thank you for taking me there (again).
Such a beautiful video. I love Venice and the Italian language so much. Thank you, Ruby. May you have many more trips to Italy - it really inspires you âš
I want to say so much but all I can say right now is that your journal entry was so beautiful it made me cry. What a beautiful moment of stillness in my busy day. Thank you!
the lines that you wrote actually made me tear up
Oh, "magical", is a perfect word! I'm glad you got the opportunity to go. It's all so beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us.
I love watching you videos. Its really relaxing and inspirational. I must say, after watching your videos consistently, i have fallen love with English literature and writing and have been writing everyday. It is wonderful to able to express yourself, thoughts, feelings and what and how see things is an art in itself. Thank you so much and all the best for your novel, hopefully it will be publish and people can read your novel, i nnow i will.đ
This was so wonderful! Thank you for bringing us on your journey. It was so magical to see you writing and exploring in Venice.
You inspire me so so much Ruby! I really hope to visit Italy one day!! Writing, slow living in the moment, appreciating the vicinity..! You looked so beautiful before your dinner as well!
The thing you said about nostalgia
So interesting you can get nostalgic by reading a book about it.
You always have a way of inspiring me some way. Itâs hard to explain but you just have a beautiful zest for the simple things in life and I love you and your channel for that
I enjoyed this so much. The beautiful art, architecture, and scenery were just dreamy to watch. It was nice to see you like this, so relaxed. I feel like we got a glimpse of your natural personality. Absolutely amazing video Ruby.
Beautifully said, thank you for sharing đâđđŻ
Thank you for the journey! I have been to Venice a number of times for art-historical reasons but I will never forget the moments of complete nocturnal silence I experienced walking for hours on the fresh thick snow that had just covered the city. It is a unique place with aesthetic references that can make you forget the touristic massiveness.
Love your channel and love watching your travel vlogs. I really admire you taking solo trips, very inspirational to just get yourself out there. Iâve done I solo trip and felt uncomfortable so seeing you enjoying it has inspired me to do it again and just relish the experience.
This video was indeed magical! Great job, Ruby!
Hi Ruby, I discovered your channel not long ago and I am loving it! I am italian and I live not very far from Venice. I've been there so many times but I've never been to the Biblioteca Marciana. It looks incredible, I am planning a trip to Venice on one of next weekends with my mum and I'll go there for sure. And of course I took note of all the shops and restaurants too! đâ€ïž
Solo trips are the best! Good for you †Venice looks beautiful!
If anyone is interested in some Venice student life content I highly recommend the CZcams channel Bella in a nutshell. She does a lot of life in Venice vlogs and theyâre very fun to watch! Itâs very rare to see that side of the city
I love the writing you shared in the middle of the video! This looks like an amazing trip
This is amazing, what a fab opportunity! Stay thriving and living your wonderful, memorable life ruby xx
Thanks for taking us along on your magical trip!
It was such a pleasure to watch you travel throughout Venice enjoying all that she has to offer.
I went to Venice and Verona with my nan when I finished my GCSEs. We stopped in various places in Europe on route. I love that you solo travel, I enjoy travel best when solo and miss it as I havenât been able to travel for a few years. My family wouldnt enjoy the nerdy things I enjoy like galleries, gardens, and museums so I try to go once a year by myself for a couple days to somewhere new. I live in America now and one time I just decided to drive 11 hours to California because I had 4 days off!
Love your vlogs, from a fellow academic (PhD psychology candidate).
Ah, Venice! And you captured it so well. Plus, you did this whilst traveling solo. It was so dreamy, contemplative, and engaging. Thank you for sharing!
We are so happy for you. I hope you found what you've been looking for in Venice. đ·
I love your travel vlogs, been binging them lately!
what an amazing experience... and how incredible that you're able to learn from other cultures, travel, write, immerse yourself.
'Venice' in the heading grabbed my attention, Venice put a spell on me many many years ago, but this wasn't just any blog... this was totally enchanting... thank you Ruby.
I've been looking forward to this video ever since I saw you went to Venice on your Instagram story. I've never considered going there myself, but your content has definitely made it a bucket list item for me!
I was catching up on some of your videos earlier today and wished I had watched your Yorkshire vlog on a bigger screen than just my phone to fully appreciate all the beautiful scenery and become immersed in your travels.
So now I've seen that you've uploaded this one, I'm about to watch it on my laptop, armed with a mocha.
I also want to note: The time and consideration you put into your videos is unbelievable, Ruby! Especially as (I think) you edit them all yourself. Your vlogs are always a masterpiece.
This was a ramble but I just think you're underrated as a film-maker (as well as a wonderful person inside and out!)
CZcams popped you into my feed and I loved watching your writers block trip!
You're such a beautiful, soft soul. Watching your videos is like a big warm hug. Greetings from Poland!
Ruby these travel vlogs are very deeply magical. Please do continue making these beauties.â€
Your videos are like the perfect way to decompress and like a deep breath into ones soul â€
Your videos are so beautiful and relaxing. Just found your channel this morning and I'm hooked.
"i hope you have more than just a productive week" I love that â€
i just wanted to thank you Ruby! i feel like being italian, living in Turin, which is as much as nice as Venice, and seldom visiting these beautiful cities, i tend to underestimate this pieces of art i'm living in! so thank you for reminding me, i'll go out and appreciate more :)
What a delite to pored one thoughts in to paper isnât? specially during a travel were your senses are full by the experience of what is like to feel the joy of being there. You are an inspiration please keep posting.
I'd never want to leave the bookshop! Looks like you had a lovely visit. I need to be more brave about solo travel. Thanks for the inspiration, Ruby.
I love the way you read!!!!! Please consider making an audiobook or a podcast â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž I love hearing your voice đđđđđđ
I got inspired to write â when I went to Venice too. I am so glad you found what you were looking for on your trip, and thanks for taking the time to record plus share with us all, so many places, particularly some that I missed in my whirlwind travels in the past. No wonder you were so tired đ„± it certainly was a big and overwhelming trip, but worth every penny if it got you out of a writers block. That picture of Jesus emanating light was so vivid and breathtakingly painted I missed that one and thanks to you I now feel like I didnât in the end, so I appreciate the effort you took Ruby, many thanks đ đ
This is a brilliant video Ruby. Fabulous music. Superb editing. Love it. Thanks.
i live in Italy so I've been to Venice a couple of times but seeing it from the prospective of someone who is not is so beautiful and magic. Hope you had fun, sending love.â€
Venice! William Shakespeare !
The feeling of nostalgia! Yes! I didn't travel anywhere that wasn't my family's place of origin or my home before the age of 20 but once I started traveling, so many places seemed so oddly familiar but also not because I've read about them.
Of course some parts end up being disappointing because tourism is such a big part of it now and it changed many places a lot. So I had that feeling most often when just going to lesser-known destinations where the feeling was the same rather than the actual location or landmarks.
Me and my family went to Venice this Easter holiday and we absolutely loved it, even though it is so empty now but only filled with tourists. This city just has its intrinsic magical beauty that won't fade away despite all the years...... I just felt like my life after seeing Venice will only be in two states: in Venice, and eternally missing it.
Oh your new book passage was beautiful - so glad it gave you some new inspiration. Oh this is my favourite place ever!!! I cant wait to go back! đWhat an incredible trip - it really brings back memories ahhh so lovely! đ„°
Beautiful video! I recently went to Greece and then Rome for a change of scenery and inspiration. Now I'm writing again! Good luck on your novel!
Thank you so much Ruby for sharing your travels with us! Iâm a 62 year old woman from Texas and I love your videos! So inspirational! Iâm excited to follow you on your masters degree at Oxford! New subscriber here!
This is the loveliest vlog I could wish to watch, and very inspiring!
Another beautifully inspiring video â€thank you Ruby
Loved this video, thank you for taking us along on your solo trip
Ruby, Thank you for this vlog of Venice. I was there for two weeks in 1994 and many memories came flooding back. I too went to a Vivaldi concert in The Church of the PietĂ , which was very special. Venice is magical, the play of light on the water, and the reflections. I found myself singing âCielo e Marâ from the opera La Gioconda by Ponchielli
I hope do so hope you do many more travel videos! I âdiscoveredâ your videos looking for Scotland travelogues. You have a unique and engaging style thatâs both refreshing & calming. I also enjoyed your tea-creating video.
PS My mom was also born on May 17 (in 1919) and gave book reviews in peopleâs homes. (!)
this was such a lovely videođ„° It definitely makes me want to travel and appreciate the world around me!
I always love your travel vlogs so much!
Samee, theyâre so lovely.
Hey Ruby, I watch all of your videos and I really love them all. I am now working on a book with poems and with drawings in them which I also make myself. Because I love writing and because of you my goal for this year is to complete my book.
I am lucky enough to visit Venice three times a year and it was lovely to see your first visit. When you return (Iâm sure you will) I would recommend a night visit tour of the Basilica when you will see it completely lit up, the gold, mosaics and atmosphere is magical. So glad you had such an inspirational time.
Thank you for this, Ruby. It was lovely and inspiring.
This brought back so many lovely memories of our honeymoon in Venice, such an incredible city and the museums were incredible. Thank you for such a beautiful video, you made me want to go back there someday soon. Wishing you all the best with your novel.
what a wonderful place to go for your honeymoon! I'm so pleased you liked it :)x
You remind me so much of myself 30 years ago. Thanks for bringing me back. Great video.
Hi Ruby, Next time you come to Italy make sure to come to Turin so I can be your knowledgeble guide!
So much fun to hear your pronounciation of Italian names.
My heart is touched. Thank you so much.
I was there the end of March and it's the most beautiful city I've ever been. I felt like I was in a classical painting looking out onto the Grande Canal. I think it's the kind of city you never get tired of visiting as it's so unique and there's so much to see.
You didn't visit the Guggenheim? only so many museums you can visit in a few days though I know. Glad you seemed to enjoy it as much as I did.
