I love that you encouraged us to read books we enjoy instead of pressuring ourselves to read classics. A lot of people turn their noses up to some genres or become a bit âsnobbishâ when it comes to classics and stuff, so itâs important to remember that all books are books and it all counts as reading đ
I love Virginia Woolf! In fact, I wrote my undergraduate thesis on her! She had very clear ideas about how biographies should be written, so I examined biographies people had written about her and critiqued them from her perspective. Read To The Lighthouse next! Itâs gorgeous!

I am a reader and I have been since as far as I can remember. I love books so much and can I just say your videos are so aesthetically pleasing Ruby, keep posting and brightening up everyone's day!
I've felt like that before, as a child I loved to read everyday, all day. I used to have three books in my backpack to read when not doing schoolwork, which was a lot of a time. But when I graduated high school I just found it hard to find time to read due to job and family obligations.
I'm in a reading slump too. It's weird. I'm exactly halfway through possibly the best book I've ever read, but I'm still finding it hard to motivate myself to pick it up and finish it. I don't know why I go through phases of reading every day, then suddenly I'll hit a phase of struggling to pick up a book once per week. This video is helping to motivate me though
The same thing happens to me! I don't know why :( but I love watching the readathons and it also helps motivate me :)
I think the reason you go thru that phase is cause your mind needs time to process what you have read and how you felt about it, so just go with it..đ its good for you!
What helps me is reading multiple books instead of forcing myself to finish that one so I can read another
I will never ever understand the obsession the younger generation have nowadays with forcing themselves to do something they donât want to do, simply because a stranger on the internet is doing it. What a strange world we live in.
@@GabijaS18 Okay, well let me try to explain it for you. There is this thing called depression that makes it incredibly difficult to find the motivation to do something you love, even though you desperately want to. Watching a video of someone else doing that thing can actually help to gather the motivation. It's not forcing myself to do something I don't want to do, it's forcing myself to do something I DO want to do. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion of that being an obsession, or what made you assume I'm part of the younger generation. I'm in my mid thirties.
Well the pleasure of reading is not a ride to who read more books in this life, it is simply the pleasure of increasing our knowledge and even to simply have Fun with other people's imagination.. but it's an activity equal to other activities, as drawing, walking, even just daydreaming, admiring nature thoughtlessly, playing with friends.. time implied in other activities other than reading is not time lost to recover quickly.. if you were not in the mood to read is not a crime! :) we are enjoying our human experience!

I don't know why.... but watching you read makes me want to read. I have definitely been in a reading slump this year... I have two books on hold at the library that I'm going to go pick up today - books I've wanted to read for awhile. I'm hoping to get that spark back. (and maybe turn off the tv for a week) Thank you!

You should try reading the restored edition of Ariel, that was edited by Frieda Hughes where the poems appear in the original order - or as Sylvia intended them to. Her idea was to sort of finish on a positive note, with the word spring. :)

That book white bird is incredible! It was recommended to me by an 11 year old boy with autism who I was looking after. He just handed it over and said itâs very good and I must read it. Itâs incredible, beautiful, and made me cry.
I've only recently found a love for coffee too! I always hated it but now for some reason I've been having iced coffee regularly and love it now! I do 1 tsp instant coffee, 1 cup of warm water, a splash of vanilla flavor syrup, 1 packet stevia/sweetener, 1/4 cup almond milk, and a load of ice!

I was in a reading slump too after my exams. And the book I was reading was a little on the heavy side content-wise (Chernobyl Prayer by S.Alexievich), but still beautiful. Reading is my hobby . currently I am reading one of the Books by Enid Blyton which is Malory towers and it is a novel in series and have already read two books and currently I am reading the third book which is Third year at Malory towers and ya thanks for making this video and wish you happy reading .
The Malory Towers series is one of my favourite series of all time! And Enid Blyton's other books are so good too...

Ruby! I really, really recommend the book An Archive of Alternate Endings by Lindsey Drager. I read it for my course on myth and fairy tale retellings--this is a retelling of Hansel and Gretel that is beyond intricate, so layered, and is just such an incredible read. I think you might like it! :)

I adore books as do many , I have more than 700 in my own little library, you can't beat the smell of a new book or maybe that's just me being weird lol When life gets tough it's a wonderful thing to be able to read a book and escape to a happier place x Agatha Christie is my favourite writer ,read Murder of Roger Arkyord at 12 and not looked back since x

It's a nice sounding sentiment, but it doesn't just automatically apply to everyone. I'm far from good enough the way I am right now. I'm an alcoholic, I'm unhealthy, I'm unhappy, I'm unproductive. All of these things I accept as reality and plan to change. Sometimes it's important to realise when you're not good enough.

Iâm in the middle of both the Percy Jackson series and the Harry Potter series, and I have found that when I start to struggle with one I move on to the other. Itâs really helpful because Harry Potter is a comfort series like I know the back of my hand, and Percy Jackson is a first read (donât judge me I was into Maximum Ride when everyone else was reading Percy Jackson), so I can get excited about reading again when I switch over. Itâs not a perfect system, but I have found it very helpful.
It's four a.m. in the morning, although, it's still dark outside, and I am watching your video instead of sleeping.
Ruby, love your videos and I have been a long time follower. Could you please make a video vis-a-vis improving vocabulary? I am finding it difficult to improve. I want to study literature aswell! My dream is to be an author. But i also wanna test out working at a libarary/book shop or maybe start a bookshop.
Even though I studied psychology, always reading research papers constantly really made me loose my love for reading, it was a year later before I got the love for it back

Sometimes I get a bit sloppy and read translations, but when it comes to classics I prefer to read them in their original language (the Scandinavian languages, French, Spanish). /Scandinavian
