  • Jamaat e Islami Hind supports secularism in India. Why?
See how JI has undergone a radical change in the last 80 years: From rejection of democracy to becoming a champion of democracy. How and why did this transformation occur?

The main criticism regarding this issue by non Muslims is this issue- when Muslims are in a majority state, they want islamic sharia law and not secularism. But the Muslims in minority state demand for secularism and freedom of practicing religion. This hypocrisy has to be pointed out and has to be debated. How can you cheer for a taliban govt in afg and enjoy secularism in India. And how can you argue against hindutva fascists if they demand India to be a hindu country.?

Sir your analysis according to your knowledge is very nice but you couldn't get the real point why jamat e islami Pak adopted democracy, I don't know for India..
For Pakistan's democracy sovereignty belongs to Allah Almighty and people are only to exercise their authorities according to His orders. This makes it permissible in contrast to other democracies where public is the authority can't be challenged which is equivalent to shirk... So any participation in that is prohibited...
Plz do Respond to it if u already know this difference with reasons...

I hope Dr. Taimur you read my comment and might find a new topic for your video.
The concept of Democracy will always remain alien to Muslims. The Ulemas may repeatedly quote about the Rashidun Caliphate, but in reality do the opposite. The mindset of the Ulemas is full of imperialistic thought and therefore influences the common Muslim as well. The concept of democracy, no matter what the Ulemas say, was practically first implemented by the Greeks. Soon after, the Romans, Carthaginians, and other Mediterranean nations follow suit. Almost 2000 years ago people mostly lived in tribal confederations. Those confederations were democratic in nature.
The real tragedy with Islamic thought is that its development occurred in the Umayyads, Abbasids, Fatimids, Ayyubids, Ottomans, Safavid, and Mughal periods. A time period of pure Islamic Imperialism. The Rashidun Caliphate and its good things were foreshadowed by the Sultans and Shahs of these new empires and kingdoms. When European exploration started in mid 15th century, Islamic Thought was no more innovative and progressive. We were not producing enough scholarship to combat Western Thought. We were busy contesting and conquering new territories, fighting over slaves, gold, and land. The last major intellect the Islamic Thought produced was Ibn-i-Khaldun. We became more and more enclaved in the work already done before. We became more rigid, indulged ourselves in the luxuries of life, delved into a superiority complex, and made our beliefs that we are chosen one, we will never be conquered (mentally or physically) by any other nation of the world.
These ill-faiths that I have mentioned above, we are still latching onto them. When Islamic Imperialism declined and Western Imperial powers took hold of their land and their blood, the Islamic thought crumbled before the Western thought. The Enlightenment of the West was no match for any other ideology of the time. Even our very modern nation, Pakistan, is directly a result of enlightenment.
Now the real solution to our problem is that, first we have to admit that we are far behind the West. We need to revitalize our Islamic Thought in the same fashion the Europeans did in the Renaissance. We have to work with the Modern thought. We need to take the good from them and leave the bad. We need to take the good elements of Secularism, Liberalism, Democracy, Socialism, Modernism, and Post-modernism and leave the bad. We need to be rational in our behaviors and tolerant in our approach. We should learn to respect the differences of opinion and work with that frame of reference. We have to forget our imperialistic mindset and truly embrace the values of tolerance and freedom of expression.
Lastly, my humble opinion on Pakistani Democracy is that it's flawed to the core. People make the democracy. The people of Pakistan are troubled by two different worlds. We have to make our mindset democratic. We have to leave our imperial past behind and accept that representation of people, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, and power-sharing will lead us to a better future. The reason for the flaw is that we have two contradictory values clashing with each other and we don't know how to resolve them. The contradiction I have most issues with is that "How can an assembly of men decide that Sovereignty belongs to Allah? " This statement itself is flawed. No matter what a man says, whether he believes in the sovereignty of Allah or not, Allah was, is, and will always be sovereign. The people need to act responsibly. The power belongs to the people. They should make laws and rules that will not contradict the Sharia and that's the only thing required. The absurd legal gibberish is useless. If the base of the structure is defective, the whole structure will be either defective or defunct.
    Peace.

well, there are two things, first is the difference b/w the democracy that jamaat describes and what the west describes. Second is the issue of JIH embracing secularism in India which is logical as the countrys founding principle consisted of it.
Also both these terms are just new word but thier meaning and their explanation coincides with Islams defintion of Khilafa which works through Shura.i.e Parliament and Democracy whose prime example is hazrat umar who was a shephard but rose to be the person who conquered Jerusalem and Persia aswell.
The differencea are there but Islam presents them in a better way and solves the predecessing issues. So I think there is no point in talking about this topic because these terms merely coincide and are not same.
Lastly, Look at the internal politics of both Jammat e Islami Pakistan, Hind and Bangladesh, they are same, not on the principals of democracy but on the principles of khilafa, which gets merely compared to democracy because of their few intervining points.

Dear prof , please make a series of videos about sir Karl popper . His early works before he moved out of his country are most edifying .
After he moved to New Zealand and Britain he might have changed his entire ideology (on paper) to get a safe exit by western world. unless he supports their scientific scams western world does not give a platform to anyone . The fact that he got the title “sir” makes him suspect. He was noticed for his skills but he was commissioned to use his skill to fool people .
    it would be informative
-to understand and the nitty gritty of his early work in itself.
-how he changed his tune after he moved to New Zealand and then To Britain will be very educational becuz it will show us how highly accomplished thinkers and scientists are high jacked into making useless fake science look reasonable. Popper literally was all about demarcating pseudo science from science but looks like he changed his thesis later .

and furthermore Maududi had already promulgated the idea of partition in 1937 in his book "Muslman and Maujuda Siysi Kashmakash". He was not against idea of division rather he was against the idea of system to be established in Pakistan for which I am sure You are also struggling. You just want some other system he wanted some other system. Does it make him a villain in Pakistani politics ? Then what about yourself
I am again clarifying that I am not saying to establish his system.
I am trying to figure out some rational criticism on Maududi by You.

Promulgated means to promote or make widely known (an idea or cause). Maududi never promoted the idea of partition. That is simply historically incorrect. In fact, he argued that nationalism was against Islam.

Maududi simply had different point of view about political system to be implemented in Muslim majority areas. but You have kept mentioning again and again his criticism on Muslim league like he was doing some sin.
