From Rokinon:
Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon Cine DS Lens answers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations. A removable petal shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box.
From Wikipedia:
Cine lenses or cinema lenses are lenses that are designed especially for cinematography, and whose main distinguishing feature from conventional photographic lenses is the "clickless" or "declicked" aperture ring. Markings on the aperture ring indicate T-stops rather than f-stops as used in still photography. Furthermore, it is a desirable characteristic for cine lenses to occupy the same form factor as each other so as to be readily interchangeable and identical in operation. This particularly applies to lenses with different focal lengths. In order to maximise interchangeability, lenses within a series of cine lenses are often identical in transmittance of light (maximum T-stop). - Zábava
Great video! I was on the fence about buying a Rokinon Bundle because of the old saying, "you get what you pay for," but now I'm confident that they'll do the job for me. Thanks!
Good job brother you answered the questions I had about the lens I myself have the 50mm and 85mm but after seeing this review I for sure am going to buy the other two
Thanks for the great review and for sharing your findings... cheers
Wow, these shots are pretty amazing, much beyond my expectations. Looks like a great deal grabbing some of these lenses…
Good video. I have been considering a Wide-Screen bundle as currently shooting on APS-C sensor and the crop factor will 'push' the focal length higher. Once I have a better (full frame) camera I can top-off the kit with individual buy of a longer lens.
It would be amazing if you'd review the Cine DSX lenses too :D
Thanks for this review
Great review video.
I have been looking to buy these as well but in a slightly different configuration: 20, 35 and 85. Sadly this bundle doesn't exist!
Equivalent photo lenses from other companies may offer better close focus or even optical stabilization but the major downside for me (even if the lens is not fly by wire) is the narrow focus throw of 90-110 degrees, which is just too cumbersome for smooth and confident manual focusing. The only exception I know of is the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC - focus throw of 190 degrees, with decent stabilization and MFD of only 20cm.
Things seems to be getting better though. The new Panasonic L-mount lenses and bodies have this amazing feature of not only making the focus speed linear but also set the desired focus angle!
Beautiful footage. Currently this kit is on sale at B&H for $1575. Normally $2350. Definitely fantastic lenses for the price.
Hi, Was that a one time deal or it’s still a current offer?
Very nice review. I purchased the Rokinon 8mm, 14mm, 35mm, 85mm & the 135mm a couple of years ago before getting the Blackmagic 6K Pro. I also find it easier to work with these budget-minded lenses as opposed to my Canon EF lenses. I’ve done short films & clips and my colleagues can’t tell if I used these moderately priced lenses or top of the line cine lenses costing 10 times as much. A good story and good cinematography techniques are what most people focus on anyway. If we weren’t told that “The Creator” movie was shot on the Sony FX3, how would we have possibly known? Sure couldn’t tell by looking at the film.
I have the 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, and 85mm and I love them for the price.
nice review!! are you guys also from Norwalk CT?
They have a vintage quality to them. Thank you👍
Very amazing! if I'm not mistaken the bridge house appear in one of the episode of TV show THE WALKING DEAD
Good review.
Thank you .. amazing review
Thanks for the video. How about auto focus when you use them with a sony A7 IV camera (or similar)? does it work perfectly? and is the auto focus noisy?
No auto focus when using cine lenses.
Love the West Cornwall footage...my home!! Are you local to there?
Where is that location filmed at 0:37?
How is the focus breathing compared to other lenses you have used? I also read that the 24/35 are not as good as the 50/85 at breathing
I have the 85 and the 35; focus breathing on the 85 is almost non existent whereas it’s noticeable on the 35!
I have also read a few reviews stating that the focus ring on the 50 is stiffer than the rest!
Hey Man¡ Thankyou for your review, Im thinking start with this hobby but I don´t have much money. What do you think about Black Magic G2 or Pro?
If you can afford it, go with the pro. It’s hard to beat for the money in my opinion.
Beautiful shots! Question!!! Are you able to see focus picking on the bmpcc6k? I was wondering because these lenses are not electronic!!! Thanks 🙏
Focus peaking comes from the camera, not the lens. So you will definitely see the peaking lines even though the lenses are manual.
@@LoveWhatYouDo That’s AWESOME. Thank you SO much 🙌
Hello, there are already film lenses for 500 euros. Can you tell me if they are better for photography as well as film? If so, what are they better at? I want to buy it, but I don't know if it's worth it. Well thank you!
will these work on a blackmagic pocket cinema 4k? and could these fit viltrox or metabones adapters for that camera? thanks
If your adapter allows you to use EF lenses, then I would imagine that these lenses would work.
@@LoveWhatYouDo So. Would you recommend these on a 90d over Photography lenses?
Which Rokinon lens should I start with? I'm new to filmmaking and have gotten a BMPCC 6k g2 camera. I'm planning on shooting short films.
Probably the 24mm. It depends on what you are shooting. 24mm is the widest of the set.
As these lenses are made for full frame sensors, can they be used with APSC or crop sensor cameras?
They work great on cropped sensors. I was using the Blackmagic Pocket 6K camera.
@@LoveWhatYouDo Thanks bud!
Is thisbthe bridge from the movie "Bridges of Madison county"?
Not sure. It’s ct. I know they shot in New England, just not sure the exact locations.
What camera were you using to shoot your test footage?
Black magic Pocket 6K
nice, which follow focus was that?
Thanks! I own the Cinevate Durus Follow Focus. I don't believe it's available anymore. A good follow focus, like a good lens or tripod, will last you many years!
very good..
Why are the wider lenses bigger?
The glass has to be wider and more curved.
The focus throw is very small, only between 90-110. It didn't bother you?
These lenses are super affordable. They are far from perfect, but are a great value in my opinion.
Are these auto focus lenses?
Cine lenses are manual. That’s the way Hollywood works.
Sir price?
I use the 14, 24, 35, and 85 and they came in just under $2000.
Not compatible with full frame?
I believe that they are.
@@LoveWhatYouDo thanks for the reply!
