I've watched a good 30-50 videos reviewing cameras & lenses over the last 7-10 days. This video is the first time I felt actual excitement at the quality of a lens I want because you're showing me the exact style of cinematography I want in my next few projects. Thank you!!
Hahahaha i appreciate you digging the content. I am pretty partial to the explosion option lol As always man appreciate you for watching and hangin out!
I'm not a videographer or cinematographer. I do primarily nighttime photography. I've experienced excellent results with my cine lenses. I won't lie. I started buying them because of incredible deals being offered for brand new - $215 for 24mm and $180 for 35mm a year ago. But I loved the results so much that I bought an 8mm for $85 last fall, and just now an 85mm for $165 (in spite of already having a regular 85mm). I've read a few reviews that claim they are sharper than their regular photographic counterparts, a couple of which were from other astrophotographers. Its all too normal toseek validation for your choices. I don't know how true that claim is, but the longer focus throw that is spoken of in this review might explain why the images from the cine lenses are sharper. With a shorter focus throw, going from focus to out of focus happens more quickly, whereas a longer focus throw gives you a more generous "sweet spot", and since these lenses (both cine and regular) are manual focus only, that feature is a particular advantage. At least, that's MY theory. It would explain why people get sharper images from cine lenses, if their design and engineering truly is identical to the regular lenses (minus the modifications for a follow focus system). I have yet to see a rigorous professional review of a Samyang/Rokinon cine lens vs its regular counterpart. If anyone knows of any such reviews, please let me know. Maybe I'll do one myself, since at this moment I have both iterations of the 85mm lens, even though I'm not a professional.
this lens sells a lot and all the info i found about it was reviews highlighting the obvious cons of the lens (no IS, no autofocus,... etc) this is the first review I have personally run into that reviews it as a cinema lens, picture quality and usability. thanks for the HQ - straight to the point content.
I found one of these on Amazon and got it for $100 off on a Warehouse Deals sale. The box was damaged but the lens was in perfect condition. This lens is a DREAM!
I've got the 16, 24, 35, 50, 85 100 macro & the 135 Samyang cine lenses. All I can say is for their prices they are fantastic value for money. No lens is perfect but on the project I'm doing at the moment they are the difference from just video to cine quality. Highly recommended. And thanks for a beautiful video of The Barn.
I really WANT cine lens now. 85mm is not my fav focal length but I just love all the pros you mention about it. Great honest and an informative review!
@@Ansonandco Just the 85mm. I think it was a promotion Rokinon and JVC were running. I'm definitely interested in getting the set should I find a good deal!
I don't. I simply run a Viltrox EF to M4/3 adapter. This will zoom in or crop the image about double the amount, but it's not an issue for me as I either move further or closer depending on the look.
Own this lense love it for the Panasonic g7. One thing i know its not good for gimbal work. It has no image stabization its heavy maybe on a big gimbal it might work.
I've been shoving info into my head now for a couple of weeks, figuring out what body I want and can afford, the lens, and the options. Well, I got a mint XM1 in the mail today. I mean mint. $150 smackers. I grabbed a very inexpensive 16-50 mm to start with. But now, I'm thinking outside the box. The advantage of using a full frame lens on an APSC sensor is that most lenses have less sharpness in the edges. Those edges get cropped out, leaving you with the best part of the lens covering the sensor. Makes me wonder why Fuji doesn't make lenses that at least overlap the APSC sensor a little bit, to improve the overall sharpness, and obviously get a better response from critics and users. Imagine a test on a Fuji lens using a chart and seeing no fall off at all. Which brings me to this Rokinon cine DS. I'd like to use it on my Fuji body. Would I rather have the back of the lens changed to mount on my body instead of adding distance with an adaptor? Yes. But what do you think of me using it, adaptor or altered on the X body? Thanks for any help, and I definitely not be aiming that lens at my weathered dinged mug....

Unfortunately, MFT can not be adapted to L mount. You will need to grab an EF model and use the EF adapter. This will also allow for you to use the EF on MFT as well with an adapter.

@@Ansonandco i saw this and i was wondering if this would be good for me as well. I have a canon t6i.
@@karinaarias3092 lol you should get a better camera
Hey Man, love the video, which version of the lens would you recommend for shooting video only? The MFT or the Canon version with Speedbooster?
Thanks! Whichever is cheaper to be honest. I have the canon version and using it without a speed booster. But that’s also cause i have a Sony and canon camera too so it’s the most adaptable for me.
Thanks Dude!
No problem! Glad i could help.
Thanks for watching!
Your welcome Buddy! Keep doing what you do best. Would love more content on lenses for Panasonic GH5/GH5s.
Well good thing for you that is my goal. So stay tuned 👍🏻
I'm using a6400 with eye tracking AF but i'm in love with rokinon DS series lens. Isn't that weird? LOL
Dude I am all over manual focusing. I am not one that gets live off of auto focus lol so I get it completely
@@Ansonandco Even though Auto focus is good for event and some gimbal shot but the rokinon cine lens give me some energy to shoot the video, playing with manual focus is fun XD. Btw, im getting Rokinon 35mm T1.5 for 100$. Hope it's a good one
That is a great price. Is the DS version? I have seen at a smaller price that are the non ads versions. If it is that is absolutely a hell of a deal!
@@Ansonandco That's the DS version and rokinon is not popular in my country so yeah the 2nd price is kinda unstable. The one that i'm getting has the appearance a little bit fade out but still the lenses is clear there's no musty or broken glass. So yeah it's kinda great
Awesome Video! Thank you soooo much.
Photography? Lens?
Funcionaria como macro?
Great video. TY. I wonder how is SLR Magic Cine line up lens compare to this. They have 25, 50 and 75 mm versions (not MicroPrimes). Regular Cine version. How are they compare to this lens?
I’ve never used the SLR magic lenses. But from the reviews I’ve seen I think the SLR Magics are going to be a beefier build and may have more character. Whereas the rokinons are more plastic but maybe have a clinically sharper look.
Is this the actual look of the quality or is this edited?
Outside of a color grade it’s the actual quality
@@Ansonandco niiiice! I’m actually looking to get this lens soon. I got a camera for photography but somehow I came across this lens and I told myself I had to get this. So now I wanna get a gimbal with a focus wheel and this lens. Except this lens is actually a 136mm on mines.
Love this ❤️❤️
Thanks!
I just got samyang 50mm cinelens and i hope i can get great vid with it. Still learning.
Nice! That’s a good lens to film with
Awesome 👏
THANKS!
@@Ansonandcoyour welcome!
Love this lens and it gets rocking results for photos on a Lumix G9
It is definitely a pretty dope lens!
this is juste the 85mm 1.4 in cine housing

There is a battle rapper named Iron Solomon. You totally look like his brother
Lol best doppelgänger call out I’ve heard yet! ✌🏻
現在AU-EVA1用に検討中。
THATS WHAT SHE SAID! LOLLLL
I actually like the old way of saying bokeh.
Would you recommend this lens for a canon m50?
What are you primarily using the canon m50 for?
@@Ansonandco I'd like to use it more for street photography and cinematography type videos
