Somehow, independent of the lenses or bodies used, you can always tell it is a Phillip Bloom video. I always find them beautiful. Thank you!
Thank you. 😊
Oh welcome back Mr. Bloom, I certainly have missed you.
I read this like it’s from Harry Potter
Mr. Bloom speaks, I listen.
It's utterly insanity how affordable good glass is these days.
10k for an entire set like that makes it worth it again to buy my own glass instead of renting. Very cool.
Thank you for bringing attention to them and showing the lenses off.
Totally agree
The fact that the 7d all the way to the Komodo looks amazing is a testament not to the cameras but to you, sir. Your images are beautiful regardless of the platform.
Welcome back Philip, still sending you light and love.
What a soothing voice, review comes through like a spa session. thank you.
me like these lenses. me like this video. Please make more videos......you make more, I will make more...deal???
Your mom (mum?) is beautiful. (respectfully)) FANTASTIC video. you ALWAYS use the music to tell a great story.
Bo
Always loved how you’re able to make the everyday look so beautiful. Lenses looked nice too!
I love that you went to such extensive lengths to compare everything, this was such a wonderful video all around. I also love that where you filmed around 9:57 was where they shot Ted Lasso! Really helped me get a good idea of how these lenses look in familiar places.
I loved that you used the Peer Gynt Suite partly while showing the different focal lengths with your mum ... kinda suits it perfectly.
A pleasure to take this in. Thank you kind sir, as usual, well done, although, I am torn, the images are close to stunning, but I go a step further, not only is the AF on the Siii a nice tool for these tired eyes, I find I am getting the product I need from the (heavyweight , old school) G 28135 cinema lens. I’m sure that would ruffle feathers someplace, but knowing a tool compensates.
The monster F4 thing? I really didn’t like that lens. Sorry!
The balance of weight/size/buildquality/sharpness/CA/breathing/price seems....among the best. Thank you for bringing these to my attention.
Everything about the cinematography in this review was beautiful. It speaks volumes that when reviewing cinematography gear that the video review itself is done to such a high standard. Confirms that you know the craft therefore you can offer an authentic review from a pros perspective..
The second the first storyblocks clip came up before you even mentioned it I knew it wasn't one of your shots haha. The images of those ducks were incredible.
The size, weight, and cost are ideal. I can’t imagine ever selling mine and I can’t wait for the 18, 40, and 135mm to come in. That preorder has taken quite a while to fill.
Thank you Phillip! Beautiful work as always! I was also impressed by the size and weight of these lenses. Nisi showed them to me before I new the prices, and after seeing the build quality and the image quality I was nearly floored when they said 1200usd
Great review Philip! I was planning to buy a set of these for my own use, now i feel more confident with this decision.
I don't know how, but you can manage to turn a boring lens review into a master piece!
Philip, I see your kindness in your mother's eyes. Say hi and thanks to her :)
It's awesome to have another video from you. We all miss you, thank you for such amazing showcase from this lenses and thank you so much for let us know you Lovely Mom such an awesome model!
Since they came out I always had a soft spot for them. I would love to test them.
One of my favortie channels to watch 😍
Your reviews and videos are masterpieces. I watched FX9 The Movie probably more times than I am willing to admit 😂
Anyway thank you Philip for your videos. Really love your precise work ❤
@@RealPhilStark thank you so much.
Oh how we missed you ♥ good to have you back 🫂
The Legend makes a legendary review! Thanks a lot for the insightful and entertaining video! Don't leave us in the dark again...
I love your wisdom, it’s great to see a proper review there are so little of them now days
Damn your mom is gorgeous! It's a good day when a Philip Bloom video drops. Also aluminum is the correct way 😺
It's always a good day whenever mister Bloom drops a video. Cheers!
Was looking forward to this and it did not disappoint!
The soundtrack choice is fantastic ❤
I also think the Nisi are a very promising line of new cine lenses.
I love these lenses, I used them on an Alexa mini recently and they're superb 😊
My goodness this was all kinds of delicious. Frighteningly professional yet the wonderful music selections kept the nerves reasonably at bay. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable Saturday morning visual treat. Aaaaaah. I think I had too much chocolate milk at breakfast - eat your hearts out, kitties.
Love that you have a review of these! Been curious what your take is
I've missed your videos. You know you don't just have to cover products. I miss your videos in general. I have no interest in prying into your life, but I know that I suffer from a variety of chronic pain problems that have had a huge impact on my abilities to go out with my cameras as much as I want to, and sadly I have a full time job that is in an entirely unrelated industry that leaves me quite little left over to go out and play. This was excellent as usual though, I appreciate your coverage of these lenses.
Justo el video que necesitaba. Gracias Philip! 🎉
time to see what body parts i dont need and can sell been looking for something like these lenes to go with my Panasonic S5IIX
There's something ultimately satisfying nailing focus with nice cine lenses. These lenses look like a bargain.
I agree, love them!
Lovely review as always! Welcome back Philip! Love from Sweden ❤️
in that little sequence with makeartnow at the end the focus looks so much better than autofocus. The pull is natural. Maybe i should start manually focusing..
Oh is that who it was? He looked familiar. I didn’t do any focus pulling, I just moved back and forth, much easier that way!
It also depends on the autofocus. My Sony a1 AF is much smoother and more natural than my a7s iii. That looks jumpy on this sort of really close focus where every micro movement changes focus.
Nice work, Philip 👍
Just to let you know because of your films in part, I am currently trying to buy a flat in Richmond!
Nice!
Not in the market for lenses but would listen to Bloom talk about anything. Have you ever considered doing a daily vlog just reading the newspaper? #bloom4presofUS
nice soundtrack and great lenses, dreaming about them..
I knew it was a mistake to click on this video.......Thanks for the G.A.S!!! My bank hates you Mr Bloom.
Yeah these look great. Color matching impressive as well with your mom across that range.

Nice review
приятная звуковая дорожка. и отличные объективы, мечтаю о них..
Let's Go!
New Philip Vid = D
Thanks Phillip for the review, great as always. Is the wobbling effect appears at 40mm (8:09)? The edges are a little bit shaky.
I was just going to ask if you could do some test shots with humans and then boom I saw your mum, please thank her for us, she is as beautiful and graceful as always. Thank you again for this review, you've been missed but we understand you need time.
Fantastic video, and thank you for bringing up that they should be bought in PL. PL is the only choice for me because then I can shoot with my various cameras and my friend's cameras. Oh, the satisfaction! And EF isn't all that universal because of a few stragglers like film cameras, the F65, and various Arris - all cameras I have access to. Long live PL!!
The lenses are indeed clinical which is why I wish NISI would stop saying these lenses exhibit micro-contrast, which they absolutely don't. They have flat look to them reminiscent of Viltrox, Sigma and even Rokinon lenses.
Rokinon??
100%. As opposed to the flat and super sharp sigma/volt rod look, I’m mostly talking about flatness with the Rokinons (many of their lenses not being super sharp).
@@Whaever_1981 that makes no sense. This is Philip by the way.
Wow, Hi Phillip! :)
I’ve watched tons of videos online of the NISI primes and none of them exhibit any of the micro-contrast rendering of vintages (cine or still) glass, as in for example Zeiss, Cooke, Leica.
Compare the NISI’s to Contax primes, a Leica Q2, and so many other micro-contrast glass and the difference is immediately apparent. And if we want to compare Chinese glass, the SLR Magic APO series has much nicer rendering for example.
I really like the design of these lenses but not their look. The framings in the video are nice though :)
What's the wobble at 7:58 - 8:04?
Amazing video review.
On the Gfx no less! Now I must save up for a kit.
The Canon 7d footage looked great! Goes to show we have no excuses these days if you're willing to put in the work and develop the skills as you have. Modern conveniences are certainly nice but cameras from close to 14 years ago till now (digital) can produce lovely images. On another note, is Panasonic the only camera company that allows the manual focus by wire system to act linearly and with adjustable throw?
I think the Sigma FP too? With my Sony Tamron lenses I can use their app to change how manual focus behaves, not just linear but focus distance.
slumming it back with autofocus lenses 😂
I know, right? Those Sony GMs that nail focus without me trying, have a lovely image and are pin-sharp are rubbish! :)
Thank you very much nice review as always
Did the lighting conditions change during the tests with your mom? It seems there are some color shifts between lenses. Most notably on the 35mm.

Hi, PLEASE HELP. I own a pair of Audioengine +2 speakers and I'm "contemplating" purchasing the Lewitt Connect 6 Audio Interface. My Q. will they work together or not? Thank you in advance.
I love the 14mm
how did he manage to put a Fuji MK zoom on a blackmagic camera ? aren't they e-mount only ?
X-mount and MFT too.
They do look nice.
So good. More cats, please.
Do you watch the videos on my @onemanfivecats channel?
@@philipbloom Now I did. Haha. Didn’t know it existed. Excellent. OneManFiveCats and a new subscriber.
How did you get more than 5 stops of ND out of the variable ND? Didn't quite follow. Also did you use a step up ring to get the variable ND to fit?
77-82mm step up as my variable ND is 82mm. I am sure I explained the other part in the video. It's a 1-5 stop variable ND, then I put a 4 stop fixed ND over it which makes it 6-9.
@@philipbloom thank you! you explained it but it was quick and I am slow :)
First post!!
Doh.. too late.. :(
These NiSi lenses aren't doing onion ring bokeh, I wonder if they are having their craftspeople hand-ground the lenses, I seem to recall that's what Panasonic once had to do to get rid of onion rings on the aspherical lenses within their LX100 compacts.
Gerald Undone absolutely can report in a way that can make a Japanese lens engineer blush, I''ll hop over to check out some of his cine lenses reviews, now that you've mentioned it.
If I ever have to do for-paid videos and it doesn't have to be full frame I reckon I'd just rent those Fuji MK's in E mount? I am surprised you don't use em much, is something fundamentally wrong with them (aside from having less Toneh cus they Super35? or being manual focus?)
Philip would you ever dare to use Anamorphic lenses? Or would you balk at baking in such things and rather leave it to the guys/gals working in post production?
I’ve got some and have used them a bit. I just don’t love them. Terrible close focus and the cheaper ones have an ugly look and flares. I like spherical.
Inspiring. As always.
Do you've any experience abt this lens how good behave on large theatrical projection? I'm so curious to know abt how this lenses works for theatrical cinema... if anyone knows there is any theatrical film shot in NiSi cine lenses please share the information with me.
Too soon
hold up - I need to know more about removing the mirror from the 7D!!
Go back 14 years and learn about it!
Philip, you’re always awesome but if I can warmly say that I’m missing what the benefits are when losing auto focus to using these lenses. Admittedly I’m a Muppet but I didn’t get this from the video. More importantly, is your automatic cat litter machine any good, and is it still working?
Having a cat as a DP is the secret sauce.
I have been trying to get in touch with Nisi for some time now actually, but they have yet to respond.
Will the Bloom Gold be available in the future as a drop-in filter slot for the Nisi primes?
No chance! Competing companies. Just screw one onto the front, I did for the London shots and many of the cat shots.
Aluminium…got it.
You working on bat trees?
PS ~ When I grow up I wanna be a classy French woman…🌺
Hi Francine! 👋🏼
You can use a screw on filter with the 14.
@@uptonfilms95 yes and no. Whilst you can screw it in, not only do you have massive gaps for light leaks, the vignette is so heavy you end up with something like a 19mm.
So no. You can’t use a screw on filter with the 14mm, not if you want it to be a 14mm.
Nice calming music 🎼 Any chance you will do a similar video about the DZO Arles Primes? 🙏🏼🥴
@@ez8937 they would have to send them to me to test them…
@@philipbloom Im sure they would! I think I’m going to write a nice e-mail to their customer support and ask them kindly to do just that 😄
Cheers from Germany :)
Done!
@@ez8937 cool!
Which lens would you recommend for Dolly Zoom, which ones are better for the movie?
You can use prime lenses for a dolly zoom, you need a zoom, either with a servo or geared to use a follow focus gear on it and you need to be able to change focus too!
Your second question is impossible to answer for I hope obvious reasons! :)
👍👍👍
Do the e mounts have AF?
Hi Walter. I said they were manual cine lenses throughout. If the E mounts somehow had AF I would have said so.
@@philipbloom I’m at work and didn’t have time to watch but always was on the fence if they were out not. Pl Mount for sure.
Good too see in the world again you chap. Still waiting on that invite across the pond to start our podcast. We getting older G. Respect!
@@WalterTheBalter best to watch the video if you are commenting on it sir! 😂🙂
Philip Bloom videos are good for your health
If I could only afford one, or 2 max, which lensex is the most versatile for documentaries and content production that you would recommend?
Same reply as your previous comment. I can’t recommend just using a couple of primes for this type of work. Get a nice zoom!
@@philipbloom I'm on a tight budget, maybe 1000$-1400$ max. I'm still searching for an all-around lens that fits my budget, at least until I make more money and can upgrade. Until then, it's hard to find an all-around lens that can handle all types of scenes.
@@handykawara6440 For what system? a 24-105 or similar would certainly work and should be within that budget range. Or if you don't use telephone as much 28-75 or similar photography lens is fine.
*the gfx image circle is 55mm. The lenses still should cover according to the website, so no idea why they specify a 46mm circle
I believe it’s because 55mm is to cover for the full 3:2 sensor and then some. 46mm covers the 16:9 but not necessarily using the very best of the glass on the wider lenses. 35mm all easily cover it. Same with my Sigma ART EF lenses. I use the 35mm upwards with great results on the GFX. The 24mm is fine too, just.
@@philipbloom That's still over 50mm. Even cinescope is like 48mm. Seems weird they wouldn't advertise them as having a wider circle when they cover perfectly. For the wider ones the premista mode should fix the vignette (not sure if the 100 has that though, the 100 II does)
@@ChrisThe1 perhaps they say 46mm as that’s what the 14mm can do whereas the longer they get the bigger the circle is. I should have done some tests in stills mode on the GFX but by the time I thought of it I had already given them back. What’s really sad is the set that had I sent on to the next tester via UPS. They never reached him. I would love to have kept them, way better than their likely fate of being stolen. 😞
@@philipbloom Damn that's really unfortunate. Thanks for the detailed review. I might consider them, as they seem like a great option for GFX.
@@ChrisThe1definitely give them a try. I hope to get then back on a long term loan soon as they like the video and are keen for me to continue using them.

Where is the XH2S review?
Theres loads on YT. Do a search.
hello
Finally
I’d like a beer with you, it won’t be scary, promise! 12:13
You are the worst person they could send these to test out... even if you had a potato lens, the images would turn out beautiful 😊
When will there be good cine lenses with AF? I know people might see this as a misnomer. But this is snobbery if you ask me. “aCtUaLlY thAtS a pHoTo lEnS yOu wAnT bUdDy”.
Yeah fine. The build quality, no breathing, uniform diameter for ND’s, imperfections etc is what I want.
I shoot solo. I work with natural light (thank god for full frame) and I need AF because of it. I get by fine with the E mount eco system, don’t get me wrong. But I think there’s a growing market for low budget solo film makers 🤷♂️
In the future. One of the biggest problems is the cost. Take this set. They are all the same lenses with different mounts, if they were going to be AF then that’s a huge added development cost with 4 different AF electronics.
@@philipbloomyeah I understand, hopefully there will be a pioneer soon, perhaps focusing on one mount perhaps. Thanks for the response and lovely video as always!
The sigma 14mm is better
Are you telling me that the £5000 Sigma 14mm cine lens is better than the £1000 Nisi 14mm? Thanks for that useful bit of info! 😂
@@philipbloom but that's also debatable haha, depends entirely on the situation.
@@botbot3698what’s debatable?
Nisi is bad.
Fantastic comment. Really informative!
