I remember being a 15 year old kid going to Hartwick; New York to see Lou Christie , it was the thrill of my life. He walked right up to me and sang to me . I came from a home where the most love I ever got from my Dad was a fist in my face and just before I saw the concert I got beat again. Anyhow seeing Lou made me forget the beating for that night. I’m 70 and I will never forget his great performance
Lou Christie is celebrating his 80th birthday today, February 19, 2023. He is an American singer-songwriter known for several hits in the 1960s, including his 1966 US chart-topper "Lightnin' Strikes," (1965) "The Gypsy Cried" (1962),"Two Faces Have I," (1963) and "Rhapsody in the Rain" (1966), among others. He was born in Pennsylvania on February 19, 1943
The tune is very 4 Seasons-like but honestly, their two voices were very different. The falsetto part might be what fooled you but their natural voices...nope.
I saw him at a show in Miami~~He stood right next to me and smiled! I looked into those gorgeous eyes and couldn't say anything!! He was gorgeous~Watching his later videos he was quite the showman! He really let loose with his dancing!! One of The Greatest Teen Idols in the 60's! Bravo Lou! ⚡🎤💞
I can't help thinking as I see these ladies dancing so free, so much emotion, fun, joy, happiness, truly getting into it and being lost in the song, that many are either passed away or very old. I wonder, when we see old folks today if we knew that some of them were in videos like this and if we knew that, just how much we would look at them differently. Now! Heck who am I kidding, this was just a bit b4 my time by about 10 years, but I am one of the old folks I am talking about! ha ha. Time surely flies and there are wonderful memoires. The only problem is how are we able to share them with these youngsters out there? lol
My husband and I saw Lou Christie in a revival concert at the CNE in Toronto in the 80s....he stopped the show dead! The more famous singers that followed were almost a let down. What a Voice!
Every time this video appears on the Dutch music channel 192TV ( 24/7 of music oldies ) I look for the remote control to play it loud. Lou, you’re the best !
Like many, I discovered the great Lou Christie through this song. As I began to explore his career and the large volume of hits and diverse styles of music I was hooked! I would say 'If My Car Could Only Talk' is my most played, but honestly every song whether made for mass consumption or a personal artistic triumph, is a hit. Much too underated a talent and amazingly still going strong at 78! God bless him.
I've heard this song so many times since I was a wee child in the 60s--I always loved the chorus singing it in the car and thinking it was the Four Seasons! But someone posted it on Instagram today and I just now really listened to the lyrics! What a horny teenage boy song! Hilarious! Perfect set up for the following year which would be 1967 and the Summer of Love!
I didn't even know this song until about a year ago when I started watching the Music Choice Oldies Channel--they have it in fairly heavy rotation. Now I can't get it out of my head.
Your awesome Lou ! You were given a fantastic gift with your falsetto. I remember being a little girl around my older brothers playing your song and hearing the lightening striking again part. I totally loved 🥰 this song. Your also very kind to your fans and I’m definitely one 😻🌹❤️✌️
oooor maybe he's being a gentleman and waiting til the right time...or waiting for her daddy's approval. "You're old enough to know the makings of a man" suggests she is of age or damn near but she's possibly not allowed to date.... If you actually listen to the lyrics he sounds pretty committed and in the meantime he's gonna express how he feels about her.

I'm so sorry, Debra. Harsh memories even so many years later. God bless you.
That's horrible. I pray for your emotional recovery from that trama. :(
Music is so healing.....here's a hug........
So sorry you have such memories! I just said a prayer for you. That just breaks my heart!
Wow. I’m so sorry you went through that
Great singer and song. He has a good range in his voice to hit those high notes.
2022 still a hit!!! Thank you Lou!!!

Great song!! Gotta miss sixties music.
I saw him in concsrt in 1999, and he sounded just as good as his records.
True love is like LIGHTENING! Such a great song. Thanks Lou for all the thrills at hearing your lovely voice throughout my whole life....
Great song. Also featured in the 1981 film 'Strange Behaviour', in a party scene that is perhaps the best scene in any film ever.
Love the dancing

AM Radio was always on in my mom's house. I would perk up and listen to this song all the time at age 5.
I've wondered the same thing at times.
What a masterpiece!!💥👍🏻👌🏼👏🏻
This song is a masterpiece. Written by Lou, as most of his songs were.
Love that sort of doo wop vibe on the pre chorus. Loved this as a kid.
Lou and Twyla Herbert.
@@jwandhistools With the baritone sax I hear a little Motown❤
I'm 60 years old. This is one of my all time favorite songs.
My husband and I saw Lou Christie in a revival concert at the CNE in Toronto in the 80s....he stopped the show dead! The more famous singers that followed were almost a let down. What a Voice!

Brings me back when I was 12........
Older than I am 🤔... but I Loved it
I love this!
My favorite part of this song is the part between when it begins and ends
Lips and mouth movements match very well. Singing.
Thx juani
Those cardies are back in fashion
Dang. I was hoping it was actually going to be live.
Oh My Gosh!
I think he is the best falsetto ever
Avant-garde
He reminds me of that dinosaur boss bad guy in NES Mario II...
GREAT song, Bonnie! :-)
Original disco here. Bee Gees
My favorite song

The perfect pop song
Wow, these were the norms I grew up with. Forgive and forget.
What bad dancing too!
I like your Channel Lou Christie I like you

The pompadour! 😅
SUPER!
Yes Lou is the falsetto!
Is it just me or does Lou really sound like Frankie Valli when he hits those high notes?
2023!!
I always thought that this song was so sexual! Boy, have times changed!
I wonder if this song has an extended version? ❤❤❤
Me recuerda el cover de Claus nomi
Nice song 👍🏼
Klaus Nomi's version is also cool
I love this song, but I was way off on the release date. Thought it was in the 70s sometime.
No it was 1966. I was in Junior High. Brings back memories. Some songs are timeless.
Lightning Lou!
Bari sax
this is great, always loved the song....but they didn't used to even pretend it was live singing with no back up singers on stage.
Es muy buena pero me gusta el cover de Claus nomi.
Did Lou Christie also sing the falsetto of this song?
The audio is the record, is it not?
I wonder if those are the Tammys doing the background vocals.
I bet Lou was burning up in that sweater.
Fuzzy ah ooooo. ?
Great song but what the hell are those dancers doing?😅
My father had that sweater in 65.
Hi Lou Christie
I’m nervous about Delilah I don’t want her not to talking ugly about My Husband Wayne Osmond he was not a Born not 1990
I’m mad at Kathy Osmond
It was not 1990
stereo
His energy doesn’t match. He needs to move around more. Lol. Plus, he’s talking about how he can’t stay faithful basically.
And?
oooor maybe he's being a gentleman and waiting til the right time...or waiting for her daddy's approval. "You're old enough to know the makings of a man" suggests she is of age or damn near but she's possibly not allowed to date.... Exactly!!
It’s the old double standard but he’s so fine…will she wait?
