    I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:
    Slay the Relics Exporter, used for the live stream: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Relic Stats, to keep track of how many times the relic effects happened: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    UI Sliders, to reposition the Discard and Exhaust piles, so that they are not hidden behind the camera: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Run History Plus, giving us more info in the Run Summary screen about the run: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
    Map Marks, for path highlighting - here, typically, Green means an easy, intended path, and Orange or Red means a harder path that I might take if I get good rewards: github.com/casey-c/mapmarks
    Even though I do not use it, I recommend Minty Spire for people looking for various Quality-of-Life improvements: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

      Really disappointed in the "AI" art, to be honest, given all the issues surrounding not giving creators credit for the art that is scraped, and potentially even ignoring copyright. I was very interested in the mod right up until I learned about the artwork.

    • @joshparrott4389
      @joshparrott4389 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@matthewhemler8747 the ethics around AI art are extremely complicated. Whether AI art is ethical in principle, whether specific implementations of it are ethical, whether it is good for society, and what is the proper ethical usage of AI art (like in a free mod from which no one is profiting), are all different and complex ethical questions. I'm glad people are talking about this, because this is new technology and we need to work out what is the ethical way to interact with it.
      For my personal context, I was not aware there was even any concern around AI art when I made this mod. Someone introduced me to an AI art engine midway through development, and literally within 1 hour I started using it for all the art in the mod. I really wanted high quality art, and up until that point it was going to be prohibitively expensive or time consuming, or both, to have something that felt acceptable. I had probably already spent 40 hours on the art up to that point, and I spent another 40 hours finicking with the AI engine to get the art to where it is now.
      I do believe it is important for us to work out how to ethically interact with AI art, and I also believe that (in spite of my ignorance at the time) my usage of the art has been ethical: I am not profiting off anything here, and I paid for a service which clearly stated I could use the art for commercial purposes. If that engine sourced images illegally or unethically, I was neither informed nor aware.
      I have spent literally hundreds of hours of my own time working on this mod, designing it, coding it, playtesting it, re-designing, more coding, learning how to animate a static sprite image, drawing my own art, and finicking with an AI engine. As of the date of this writing, I have released 80 patches since I published the Abyssal on steam workshop. I do not benefit monetarily from any of this work in any form or fashion. I have a fulltime job, I have a family, I work in technology but I am passed the point of my career where this could be a relevant part of my resume. This project costs me a lot, and in return the only thing I get (which is more than enough from my perspective) is the satisfaction of having created something that people enjoy.
      My ask to give the mod a thumbs up in Steam workshop is only because Steam will not give you a 5 star rating until you have 200+ ratings. I don't actually benefit from that in any way, but I would really love to see it get 5 stars. Anyway, I hope the world quickly works out the ethics of AI art, and I hope you all continue to enjoy my mod =)

      @@matthewhemler8747 I get where you are coming from, but this instance is in my opinion a very acceptable use of AI art. It's a non profit mod for a video game, which requires dozens of different AI art pieces to complete. Either the mod creator would have to be a great artist to make the art, or an artist needs to be willing to spend dozens of hours to make art for free for the mod to do this without AI (Or the mod creator needs to be very dedicated to his passion project to be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to commission art for each card, which is unreasonable to expect to say the least).
      This feels like a perfect sue case example on how "AI" art can benefit people without actually doing harm in any way.

    Regarding the AI art, this is among the least harmful uses of it. While it is true that AI art is trained on artists' work and scummy people will use it to put those same artists out of business, this isnt losing them business. It's really either the art is direct copyright infringment or it's AI.
    As for the quality of the mod itself, I have mixed feelings. It has a lot of great ideas, but I think the execution is a bit lacking. The character is strong in the right hands, but it's also extremely punishing. I've found that it really railroads you into playing bury/dig. It doesn't feel like non-mod character mechanics, where each mechanic works on its own. Here, bury/dig forms the backbone of every deck. You can't just splash it, it's entirely how the character functions. You need to play tons of cards for every archetype, and bury/dig facilitates that. But bury/dig is extremely tedious. The bigger the deck the more cards you have to look through to pick out the right ones. Plus you have to do constant manipulation of hand, deck, and discard, multiple times per turn. Expect a 2 hour run minimum.

    Very sad to see so many anti-AI people in the comments. There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding how it works. AI models such as Stable Diffusion don’t copy and paste from already-existing artworks, they “learn” patterns. If you’ve ever downloaded a SD model, you will notice that it’s only a few gigabytes. That’s not possible if it included all the images it was trained on, it’s a lot of data regarding patterns.

    • @bobspotify1513
      @bobspotify1513 Před 10 měsíci +3

      The point is they "used" existing artworks as datasets to train said AI. Same argument as how in the early days of ChatGPT ppl were speculating that Github might get sued because the existing source codes in there could've been used to train the AI without the respective owners' consents. (iirc)

    • @gianni50725
      @gianni50725 Před 10 měsíci

      @@bobspotify1513 To be frank, it's clear you probably haven't thought out the implications of what you just said at all. If AI art is 'stealing' or 'wrong', then essentially any search algorithm (including the ones CZcams/Google use) are illegal. Especially Google Images, which now tries to identify similar images using AI now with Google Lens (and how do you think that works?)
      So is it only 'stealing' or 'immoral' if the AI generates new content on the trained data, as opposed to just using it for other reasons (like identification?) Really, now, please think about the implications here before you condemn it for using said data.
      Reasoning like this is why, every 5 years or so, some tech-illiterate boomer comes up with some new copyright law for 'protecting' creators like SOPA/PIPA, while it turns out the implications of said law involve jeopardizing sites and programs we use every single day. The difference is that now a bunch of 25-30-something tech-illiterate millennials are doing the same thing!
      There's a court case now where, if ruled in favor of the plantiff, we could see Google and ALL search engines be forced to remove all scraped content (i.e., scraped text from websites, images, etc) from search results, because that'd also technically be using scraped, unauthorized data for the usage of an algorithm (and for display on a website). Genuinely, the idea of calling it 'stealing' either forces you into an insanely hawkish position, or forces you to be totally inconsistent.
      So lets be real, the reason why artists dislike it is because they realize it will reduce demand for their already-precarious profession. Nothing wrong with feeling upset, worried, frustrated, angry, etc. because obviously that's terrible for them, but the 'stealing' narrative is just so totally off-base that it almost makes me lose all sympathy, because they might genuinely end up making things WAY worse for everyone else too.

You do know you can agree to disagree, right? You can understand these people why they would be mad while also being against it, for all reasons you have I dont really care as I have said.
