    8:28 Review
Ok so the special episode sets up Ashin, a peasant villager who lived with her mother and father, the latter of whom was a Jurchen. These were a group of people who belonged to one of China's final dynasties before the Mongol conquest.
In the century prior the King had given the Jurchen a piece of land and he and his family settled in Joseon and built a home there.
Because the land did not truly belong to them, the native Joseon people viewed them as a low born peasant class and thus they had forced them to remain in the village doing menial jobs.
The land itself was also highly sought after and in the film we also meet the Pajeowi, an army of which had gathered their people at the basin of the Pajero River. Due to rising tensions the Joseon's recruited several Jurchens including Ashins father who would be used to spy on the the activites of the Pajeowi. He hoped that this would improve his peoples standing and their lives but unfortunately things don't happen that way.
Now whilst all this is going on some Pajeowi men enter a forest in order to illegally collect a herb called Jinseng which will help with the harvest. They're deaths are attributed to a wild and zombified tiger, though it's revealed that this was actually a cover up and that it was carried out by the Cho Clan.
Ashin's father was framed and set up to made it look like he betrayed his own people which leads to the Pajeowi turning their hate towards the Jurchens instead of the Joseons.
The Pajeowi leader Ai Da Gan seek revenge and they launch an attack and murder everyone in the village except for Ashin's father.
He is taken hostage and I'm kinda glossing over the amazing tiger fight...well rather tiger chase as there's a lot of territorial things to discuss but yeah the actions scenes in this don't slack. The Tiger is how they discovered it hadn't ate anyone as it was already dead and thus they learned the truth.
Whilst all this was going on Ashin was looking into the resurrection plant as a way to heal her dying mother and thus this sets up a lot of the pieces that would come to be prevelant in the series. She found a shrine that detailed

Ashin did not feed the Commander to the zombies. Min Chi-Rok went to the souther region with his men to help with the Imjin Wars. The man she fed to her family was one of the 2 guys who would take turns raping her. The 1st one she had killed and turned. She saved this guy for last.
Min Chi Rok plays an important role in season 2. He is the head of the Royal Commandery or the equivalent of homeland security and carried out the investigations against the Queen.
And Ashin's bow training, while it contributed to her strength and character, was mostly to improve her hunting skills because it's implied that all these years she has kept her zombie family fed with rabbits, deers, and boars. She then laments that no matter what she fed them, they wouldn't finish any of it since they prefer humans.

I don't believe the commander is who she fed to her village. The commander is Min Chi Rok (who we saw in Season 2 as the commander who carried out the investigation into the pregnant women being held in the Queens private residence), he left the military base before Ashin took the place down.
I think season 3 will see their relationship be a focus point, as well as her relationship with Lee Chang as he's the ancestor of the Joseon king who promised her father governmental status but never followed through.
I'm not sure if we'll see much more from the Haewon Cho clan as the 3 main members are dead, the Queen, Cho Hak Ju, and Beom-Il (who was responsible for the 15 Jurchen's deaths and was killed by Lee Chang in season 1).
I think the show is looking to create a sense of grey morality. Ashin can be seen as both a protagonist of her own journey, but a antagonist of the series as a whole. Same for people like Min Chi Rok who is well intentioned in Seasono 1 & 2, and technically is purely trying to stop an all out war here, but at the horrific sacrifice of Ashin's clan.

What ended up happening shortly after the Imjin War time period of the Kingdom series is that the Manchus bribed their way past the Great Wall, took advantage of rebelling Chinese peasants and generals, conquered Ming Dynasty China, and subsequently also gained the vassalage of Korea since Korea's Ming allies were already defeated.

I think it'd be interesting if Ashin and Chang became something like frenemies in Season 3. They both despise the corrupt system, having suffered the loss of their fathers and loved ones from it. But whereas Chang, as an insider to that system, believes it to be foundationally good and that it can reformed for the better, Ashin, as an outsider to that system, believes it to be fundamentally evil and wants it to be utterly destroyed. If Kim Eun-hee wanted to explore this path, I think it could make for an interesting plotline.
I'm also very curious to see what kind of influence Ashin's presence will have on Chang and Seo-bi's relationship.

Having watched Kingdom: Ashin of the North, before actually seeing Kingdom(1&2). It's obvious that Asin doesn't know anything about type 2 zombies that are formed from cooking and eating the fresh of an infected person; with this type been more infectious. Had she known about this kind of zombie, I'm sure the entire kingdom would have fallen long ago.
It makes sense cause at the end of her movie we see her instructing those she gives the flowers to on how to create a type 1 zombie which is way less infectious than a type 2.

They could've swung their spears or somethin', instead they all just put their spears to the side and used their hands. That was kinda silly and painful to watch.

Some details that could hint to s3
    1. Beom il said - are you sure theres 15 of them when min cho rok told him theres 15 dead bodies. Theres a possibility someone escaped
    2. Even before talhab was assigned to be a spy , the paechowi knew that they were burning the bodies as they looked over a cloud of smoke coming from joseon.
    3. SO I THINK THEY KNEW THAT IT WAS NOT TALHAB THAT KILLED THEIR BROTHERS AT FIRST. Thats why they joined the tiger hunt. The first thing they did once they found the tiger was to look for bodies. They Knew very well it wasnt the tiger.
    4. Notice how the hae cho won clan knows a lot anout the flowers? It was the mean dude from the clan that suggested to use the flowers. He KNEW abt the flowers somehow.
    5. My theory is that, someone escaped when boem il was killing the people looking for ginseng. Then told the paejowi what happened. Instead of killing the people in the village for KILLING THE 15 PEOPLE, theyre killing everyone because they worked for the joseon. Cause theyre traitors - thats what they were executed for. Cause they worked with joseon- the real enemy.
Maybe when ashin went to aidagan, she will be accepted cause shes not a traitor, but helped disposed the joseon army. So maybe she will work together with aidagan in s3.
And somehow the hae cho won clan aka boem il found out about the flowers from ashin and aidagan while fighting.

I wonder how she managed to pull off the resurrection plant as a kid. All the instructions said was that the plant could bring back the dead. Not how to use the plant to bring back the dead or what state they'll be in. I mean it makes just as much sense to put the plant in there mouth Ratner than cut open the skull and place the plant in a specific part of the brain.
Even if she eventually figured it out through trail and error, how did she (a small child) not die when the first family member came back as a zombie?

My wife and I just finished watching both seasons and the Ashin movie. Watching your video affirmed that we watched everything in order. This Korean zombie content is awesome! I totally agree with your comments in this review. While the leads in the two seasons deserve their props, the actors playing the zombies also did a great job. My wife was freaked out as their bodies contorted to a standing position when they turned from human to zombie.
A part of me also wants Ashin to become a protagonist in later episodes, but I agree with you in hoping she stays psychotic and evil! That would be better.

I think I'm more looking forward to Ashin meeting with Seo-bi than with Lee Chang. Chang is the Crown Prince, and we already know how she feels about them, but Seo-bi is the one who has the ability and knowledge to find a cure, thus putting an end to Ashin's bloodbath. I think Seo-bi could be her real threat. If S3 portrayed two strong female actors, it would make the season very interesting. I really liked Ashin of the North, it helped you understand her character and the root of her pain, which then makes you feel torn whether you should take for her or not. Fact remains, even though she kills out of sadness and pain, she kills nonetheless. We'll have empathy for her character in S3, but ultimately, I think Chang and his crew will always stand for what's right and she's too far deep into her madness to stray from her path of vengence. She'll make an amazing enemy, and I can't wait to see the impact her presence will have on Chang and Seo-bi, and the rest of the company.
For those hoping for a Chang x Ashin love plot, I really hope not. They're two opposites, fighting for different causes. He is a Crown Prince and having her on a throne next to him probably wouldn't be well regarded by the people or administration, given her past of being a murderer. If anything, I think the crown Prince has more chances of developping an affection atmosphere with Seo-bi.

    Theory: “Battle of Piesa-gun”
A hundred years ago the Jurchens (Pajeowi clan) plotted a massacre for Asians to conquer them all and the rest of the world. This only became possible when the Haewon Cho clan from Joseon sold them a very confidential information about a potential bioweapon which can be found in a place within the border of northern korea called Pyesa-gun. (The resurrection plant)
Fortunately, the worldwide genocide stopped when one clan from Jurchen (Seongjeoyain clan) chose to betray their people for a better cause. They secretly allied with Joseon kingdom and fight against the Jurchens. They won that war and called that event the “the battle of Piesa-gun”.
After the war, to avoid another serious threat in future, they approved the following laws:
    1. Entering Piesa-gun was permanently prohibited by the king.
    2. The battle of Piesa-gun and the related information of the bioweapon were erased from the history by the scholars.
    3. Seongjeoyain clan awarded an alliance and promised them a permanent citizenship and position in government.
    4. The Haewon Cho clan should be punished by killing all their generations but later, the king lowered their sentence to only removing them from the royal government.
Hundred years have passed, the kingdom ruled by incompetent rulers, and the promise for Seongjeoyain clan didn’t happened. Later they were discriminated and treated by the government not as an ally but peasants and burdened by heavy taxes. Corruption is everywhere.
Until the time comes for Prince Chang and Ashin of the North.
