I came here after watching the movie . Dude its sooooo good. The FL in the movie barely had lines but we feel the emotions in her eyes. She is no doubt the highest paid actress in korea.
I didn't recognize her. But yea that's the inner racist in me that apparently can't see the difference between Koreans. I checked she's N2 that's freaking amazing :D they bagged quite the star for this movie. If this was a tv show her salary would be roughly 100-130k USD per episode sheesh. Only Kim Soo-Hyun is higher by a lot I might add like half a mil per episode easy. Not bad for an ex soldier.

This explained her backstory so well and gives an insight into how she’s going to interact with the protagonist in season 3.

Considered as one of Korea's biggest Superstars. Think of it that Jun Ji Hyun filmed this the same time she was filming Mount Jiri. She is serving her fans two great dramas. She is known to do "one movie per year" and she had just 4 dramas in her entire career. Knowing that it was very hard for her to get to do dramas since she's an exclusive movie star feels amazing that she did not just one but two dramas this year. The queen is back and serving so much for her fans 💕

@Sur Nin its because the commander of the joseon army basically set her village up as sacrifice to prevent a war between joseon and the jurcheons, her entire village got wrongly framed for betrayal and was slaughtered as a result. It was actually the joseon kingdom at fault
@Sur Nin her village was discriminated against by joseon people and jurcheons both. Jurcheons were killed by a joseon official but her father was tricked into telling them it was a tiger instead. The joseon knew it was a lie and the village would be killed. She doesn't want to just destroy joseon but also the jurcheons too. basically she wants to watch them burn bc they took everything she ever loved and cared about away from her

Wow. This exceeded all my expectations. I really didn't see some of the twists coming. The young Ashin delivered in her emotional scenes, and the grown Ashin while almost silent had a powerful presence with her eyes speaking volumes. The directing, cinematography and visuals are beautiful, other than slightly flawed CGI at times. What an epic backstory to the series.
CGi is pretty expensive it seems - takes a lot of manhours for even simple scenes. That is why Avatar cost millions to make - most of the budget was for CGI.
The tiger and the deer looked subpar. Everything else was great.
Watched this and DAMN, it was way more brutal and depressing than this trailer suggests, especially when you watch how her character develops since her childhood, in the most horrible way possible... Check it out people! My expectations for season 3 are through the roof now!

Not just that, but the actual scenes were spot on as to how life actually was - not the usual pristine streets and everyone dressed in brand new clothes. Downright dirty and gritty.

Jun Ji Hyun is incredibly versatile. She can comedies, romantic movies, can take serious role in political dramas and also in horror/action movies.
I just saw it. To be honest, This special episode increased my respect for the series. It's ten out of ten for me.
Honestly the twist of her making the people in her place resurrect was pretty good. Now I know she'll be a villain in Season 3 but hope she would change though.

There are a couple of historical background which might help you guys understand the movie.
1. The chinese people called korean people "dong-ee" which means "eastern archers" 2000 years ago.
2. The main territory of korean people was manchu area. After three kingdom era and unification of shilla, korean people moved back to the korean peninsula.
3. The yeo-jin nation where Ashin was from, was one of the nations staying in the manchuria. Basically they were cousins of korean people, but chosun dynasty treated them as barbarians of north, though they had been definitely the member of Go-gu-ryeo at three kingdom era.
4. Ashin in this movie is definitely a villain from the view of chosun dynasty. But from ashin's view, chosun was bad guys in this movie.
5. All the remaining nations of manchuria are now gone except korean people. No yeo-jin people. No language. Only korean people in korean peninsula remain as north, south korea and manchuria.
6. It is a tragedy that there are many korean people in manchuria who are still using korean language, though they think they are chinese people.
7. Anyway the whole story of this movie is about revenge to the people of korea peninsula. I feel sad because of this historical reason.
Ashin is similar to Turkish asena female wolf/warrior.

I got mindblown twice while watching this. First half an hour was slow paced and giving you the context, but it starts building and building for a huge climax. I think the kingdom series has a new start now.

She may have contributed to it, but I don't think she directly caused the plague that attacked Joseon during Season 1 because it was Haewon Cho's idea to revive the king until the king ate a victim that was cooked later for starving people. But I'm pretty sure Jun Ji Hyun's character is the one who produces the flower that causes the virus.

they did her father so dirty :( i felt like crying for her when we saw him amputated with both arms and legs cut off, head on the wooden block and locked up in a cell as a prisoner for nearly 10-20 years. he could barely talk and you can tell the man lost his sanity......he kept asking to be killed good god he deserved better....one of the most heartbreaking and gruesome scenes from the entire movie apart from when young ashin came home to her village burned down and her dead villagers and family hung on the wall like some sort of art piece on display for everyone to see :( i sympathize and feel for ashin so badly.....she caused chaos and ruin throughout the entire country which killed millions and she isn’t stopping until she gets her revenge. she’ll probably be the villain in season 3 (unless she didn’t kill those who killed her family, those guys might be villains too) and i understand her and her desire for everything but i also want prince chang & his group to win and i wish for their success and happy ending. i’m just imagining the epic showdown between ashin and chang.....i wonder how things’ll play out. i’m really torn between which side i want to root for now that we know ashin’s story

HOLYYYY SHITTT, I just finished watching this and when her family (zombie ones) was revealed, I was shookt to the core and called her a cool psycho lmao HAHAHAHA but yeah creepy shit, who knows until what extent can she do to avenge her family.. ngl that night when she finally executed her revenge is so satisfying, the first Kingdom episode where I badly wanted all the villagers to die.. too bad it only has one episode and just 90 mins, now I'm honestly already craving for Season 3.

I think this is a prelude to the s3 of the kingdom. After this special episode, the story will take off where the S2 ended. Its well understood concept .
I agree since her feature appearance was at the very end of last season. Doing one episode revolving her and the story of how the flower came to be makes her appearance to viewers not all of a sudden. Instead it will connect a lot of dots and perhaps raise more questions. I also get why they couldn't do a season 3 understandable due to Covid and the limation of how many people could be on set. I rather wait for them to make a good 3rd season then a rushed one 🙂

It was horrible. I watched the whole all seasons and I also think she did right. The way the powerful think they can destroy weaker. she should stop now as they all have learnt lessons.

my guess is if season 3 happens they will work together somehow but not exactly as close colleagues but with certain goals that they have. and work a way to solve the problem with the young king who is to be zombiefied or be controlled through the worm.
