    Kingdom Season 1 Recap
Ok so quick recap of the first season to get you up to speed.
The King of The Kingdom was on deaths door and a mysterious plague ravaged the land. Eyes soon turned to who would be his successor and initially it seemed like the Crown Prince Chang would be a shoe in.
However, The Queen was also apparently pregnant and due to the Crown Prince being of illegitimate birth her child would become the heir should he be born whilst the king was still alive. The King died and though it seemed like this meant that the Crown Prince would ascend to the throne, the evil Queen and her Father, Senator Cho had other plans.
Using a rare herb known as the resurrection plant the Queen was able to bring the King back from the dead and she planned to keep him this way until she had an heir in place.
As we theorised in our last breakdown of the show, the Queen had had a miscarriage and thus she had been rounding up pregnant women in the palace in the hopes of taking their child. There was a mole with the crown princes group, and to make matters worse, the zombie King had passed the disease on to others and now the undead disease was spreading like wildfire throughout the land.
The Crown Prince saw this first hand and the first season centred around him fighting off the plague that was tearing things apart.
Cho did whatever he could to kill Chang and the first season ended with him sending a legion of the undead to a location where he was making a stand.
    Kingdom Season 2 Themes
After some back story to the herb Season 2 picks up almost immediately where the first season ended with the horde storming the Crown Prince’s forces.
I’ve always viewed Kingdom as a class struggle story and that is definitely exemplified here. In the first season many of the rich characters hosted large banquets whilst the poor literally ate one another and here that aesthetic is continued. Food is God and this message of the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few plays heavily into the finale.
Though it wasn’t intentional, in light of recent events, the show is almost metaphorically depicting how people will try to do whatever they can to survive, even if that means stealing all the toilet paper I mean rice…
The Zombies represent people at their base instincts, fighting for whatever they can whilst those in power are cool, calm and calculated, happy to let those that they view as insignificant fight amongst themselves.
There are several examples of this in the six-episode run and ultimately the show states that on the whole though humans tend to be self-centred, we are strongest when we work together.
Though the intro is laced with subtext it’s also just amazing to watch and it’s probably one of the best openings to a season well…ever.
kingdom season 2 ending explained netflix
    Kingdom Season 2 Plot Recap
Overwhelmed the forces retreat and we discover that not only is the Princes trusted advisor Mu, the mole, but that the disease had also been used in the past as part of biological warfare.
We realise later in the season that the sick and elderly were transformed into the undead through the plant and used to fend off the Japanese forces three years prior.
Once more this shows how the higher ups have little regard for the frail and the show is eerily similar to current events and rules that have been put in place when caring for those that the government view as offering little to society.
The Prince realises that he must end the disease in the land no matter what and with a skeleton crew he heads out after Cho. He sees first hand the desperation...

Just wanna say a few things as to why the Prince didn't kill the baby. In the season 1, he'd mentioned that he "isn't like the Cho family". He never rooted for power, never wanted to use his power for this personal gains, but always wanted to look after his people and his father; the King. To do that, he had to rebel against the Cho family as they were holding the power. Saying that he isn't like the Cho family goes to show that he knows what to do as a human being, as the prince and as the leader. By killing the baby, it would portray him as a monster similar to the Cho family; willing to do anything for his power. By killing the innocent baby, he knew that his power could not be justified; he knew that he had to become the monster he so hated. Then the drama does an amazing presentation of him. In the last scene where he walks out after saying that he won't kill the baby, if you look at his clothes, its all red. Covered in blood, but all Red. As you should already know, the King's clothes is red. The director wanted to portray him as the King in this sence. That he was already the King at heart, and didn't need any formal justifications nor documents to show for it.

You are right!. This drama is not just an appetite for entertainment, it shows the psychological figure of human beings. Looking into the history of Korea, we think more about moral things. As a king, he can kill anyone and take power, but the failure to do so is due to the morality and guilt that comes from his heart. I think this is the theme of this drama

Seo bi and her lover are my fav characters.
beom pal(?) the nephew of the villain, the comedy relief I guess, realizing that he can not kill innocent people really got me.
In season 1 we see him questioning “are we allowed to do this” as he boarded the ship to escape. 1st half of Season 2, we see him being useless, and at halfway of the season he listens to his uncle to bring him allies when he was on his deathbed, leading to moo young’s death. But later when he was giving the order to kill he realizes that he can not kill innocent people, and is saved by the prince who forgives him. in the final battle he ends up fighting side by side with the prince, even though he is scared of dying. I mean he really didn’t have the choice to live or die - there’s zombies everywhere, but I really liked how a cowardly character like him developed courage. A lot of people overlook him as the comedy relief but I really liked him and I am cheering for him and Seo bi :)

      in my opinion:
1st - we can compare the population of each country.. US wayyyy bigger and has more ppl than in korea. So when it spreads, it spreads like crazy.. as you can use this Corona virus around, comparing to the cases between US vs other countries lol.. the more people, the more it hard to control..
2nd - while the polices can just shoot the zombies right away, instead, they just stand in 1 spot, pointing the gun at them and say "stay still where you are" until the zombies come and bite them, then it starts spreading like crazy hahah.. (which i see this happens a lot in zombie movies lolol - which i think it's so stupid) but well... "all lives matter" - that makes the polices scared to shoot and the writers bring that into movies lol..

This was great but the ending actually reveals that the mystery character was already in the show since episode 3 in season 1 when seo-bi finds the plant in the frozen valley mountains and sees that someone else has been there who had also used bells to track the zombies, had shackles around human limbs (might’ve spelled that wrong), and only kept a certain amount of zombies nearby in a controlled environment. If you’re reading this go back to that episode and it will blow your mind how well the writers have written all of the characters stories to do that they can all meet one day from so many different reasons!

When Cho was died, the queen was pouring tea into a cup even it was overflowed.

One detail I noticed is that when Cho Hak-Ju speaks to his daughter about all the bodies he's put in the palace's pond, he regards power as the ability to kill without remorse or consequence. He can end as many lives as he wants, and everyone will know about the bodies under the pond and no one can do anything about it. At the end of the season, Chang saves himself and his people through submerging the zombies in the lake, and later he and his companions recover and re-emerge from the water while the queen sinks to the bottom.
This moment is essential in juxtaposing the pure goodness of power vs. the corruption it can bring. The Cho clan sees the water as a way to drown their sins without ever having to pay for their actions. Lee Chang sees it as a way to purge the horrors of selfish power, and protect himself and his people through it.
However, the show presents an optimistic conceit where the queen does pay for her selfishness, and she dies alone and loveless, just as her father did. Chang then attempts to recover all the corpses from the lake, distinguishing him from the Haewon Cho's by actively seeking justice and decency by exposing the truth for the world, regardless of personal loss (It also might be important to mention they never recover the queen's body as she's already sunk too far, further punishing her entitled behavior by not allowing her a proper burial. It's reminiscent of Tywin's death, where his corpse stinks so badly no one can attend his funeral).
That also puts this universal note on the goodness of people, because at the same time he does this, Seo-Bi purges the newborn infant of the Cho clan and saves him from the bloodshed of power coups. But as we see, that seedling of evil and influence still exists in the young child. By virtue of him being an innocent child, I want him to survive S3 and already have formed an attachment to him. I just hope we can have a conclusion that doesn't devastate me completely.
It's a beautiful moment for Lee Chang though, and I'm genuinely in love with his pure character c: I think it's a hard line to walk to have such a self-righteous character without him coming off as conceited, naive, or shortsighted. But I think Chang achieves, in the truest sense, a pure hero. I'm curious to see if the show will challenge him with a difficult decision similar to the one Ahn Hyeon had to make during the war, and I think contesting his goodness with the circumstances will help develop his maturity and truly give him the foresight to take the throne without regrets or doubts. For now, I'm just relieved the pressure is off him to ascend to the throne, because that just seems like a shitty job in general and he'd surely get grey hairs before the age of 40.

I think part of it is that Chang tends to hesitate and can kind of wallow thinking about how horrible he is and remembering mistakes he's made. That's why it's easy to forgive him for wanting to do the right thing even if it might make other people look bad. He's definitely not doing it because he thinks he's better than anyone. He wants to make up for mistakes. And often it looks more like a flaw (risking people's lives for principles) rather than him being a perfect, upright character. I really like this show

Could be, I thought maybe it might have to do with the fact that the baby was not dipped in water all the way compared the crown prince and cho where they almost drowned to death before the parasites left their bodies. But my gut feeling is it might have to do with the parasites mutational properties when exposed to extreme heat. As seo bi stated, the worms favor the cold but when they've been exposed to extreme heat they also thrive and mutate to spread rapidly. We've seen this in this season 1 when they cooked and ate the dead boy's body at physician lee's clinic and in season 2, seo bi saved the infant baby from the Queen's palace by wrapping herself and the baby in cloth that was lit on fire to run through the horde of zombies out onto safety. That bite mark on the young's prince's wrist also looked like he was badly burned.

Theres no way her father would have fallen for the fake intel and sent his soldiers away either.

Overall I thought season 2 was solid and added great depth to the story. My prediction for the next season isn't too far off of what you suggested and I agree there is a foreign power or collective responsible for this plant. The secret of the resurrection plant lies within the silk road to china. I foresee political turmoil between Ming China and the Kingdom of Joseon since this series is set during the joseon dynasty where it was a vassal state to Ming and Qing China. This is just my assumption since we dunno if season 3 will be in the works just yet but the only evidence I can tie into this is because now we know the villagers of sumang were used to fend off japanese invasion by presumably toyotomi hideyoshi or someone like him as this is a fantasy/horror series set on an actual historical time period. And historically speaking, it was Ming China who sent troops to aid Joseon to fend off Toyotomi and his forces in the actual Imjin War. This would be my reasoning as to why the plant came from china not because of what happened in sumang village directly but to the fact that china is a hegemon in this time period with an expansionist ambition to conquer the East.

It means at that point the worm has reach Chang's head if not his brain.. So my theory is at some point the worm is reaching people's brain to control them and change them into zombie, but when we get drown and lost consciousness it means our oxygen supply is decreasing? So the worm try to get out of our much deprive oxygen body part.. The flaws with this theory is the connection between water and the zombie's fear of it..

The reason zombies avoid water is probably for the same reason... the zombies' bodies are still "alive" and functional so they'd probably drown like any other person...

This series is incredible. I am in awe at how good the writing for this series is. The one thing I am so thankful for this series is there's no unnecessary love interest for any main characters. I hope even if the writer wanted to put some romance into the plot, it would be done in good execution, I believe to the writer of this series though.

What I think is dumb is that the prince would never almost kill an innocent baby. It is out of character for him to act like he was about the kill this baby that everyone knew wasn’t even the real heir. It was a bad way to add drama where it wasn’t needed. Also, I could be wrong but didn’t the prince ask the nurse how she cured the senator and even though she knew it was water she just told him I don’t know. Like what the hell she finds the cure is asked about it and doesn’t tell him? Lastly, the prince throwing down the gun and punching the ice with his fist, so dumb, it is a good scene and then he goes and does something like that just to be more dramatic, wasn’t needed. But maybe I am wrong. Let me know if you disagree could just be a misunderstanding.

I'm thinking that the lady on the last scene has a historical issue with the Royal family that's why she is intentionally bringing back the plague as she may probably have heard that there was castastrophe in the Royal Palace seven years ago and wanted everyone within the Kingdom to suffer once moreas her way of revenge. That's my opinion though.

Both are so considerate towards people.

Nobody asked but the actress in the last scene and the actor who played Prince Lee Chang are shooting a new series together called Mount Jiri. I think they have the same director/writer as in Kingdom and Goblin(The Guardian). They will play the roles of mountain rangers, will be action-packed for sure. Unfortunately I don’t think it will be released by Netflix. You can probably watch it in Viu. It will be released this year.
