    Ordered myself a mini last night on a whim, spent today trying to ferret out all the info I needed. Got home feeling a little drained, found a nice fresh video from you verifying everything I'd learnt plus filling in a few bits I'd missed. Now feeling a lot better about my purchase. Good finish to the day, thanks Bruce!
    Some of the comments I've seen from others on this have been really helpful too. You are building a good community of followers.
    You MAY be able to get FrSky telemetry working with this board by soldering wires direct onto pins on the processor, there are 2 "software" serial ports you can use. May experiment with this, but considering all I really want back is pack voltage and I can get that already using A2 in and a voltage divider on the D4R-II it's hard to justify the effort!

      There is a fork of Baseflight for the CC3D called Cleanflight, in case you want to try without buying new hardware. From what I have seen on the OpenPilot forum, most seem to like feel of Cleanflight better than the stock CC3D firmware.

    I'm looking forward to a video on how to setup PID's for more aggressive flying. I think this is what these quads and board are designed for so I'm sure it will help a lot of people. I've notice exactly what you said: the quad tends to self level even in acro mode, or leans back which is annoying. Also if you could show us how to connect the FrSky telemetry with the V8R4-II that would be great. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!

    Hey Bruce, on your Naze setup videos you forgot to tell us about the Auto Disarm feature :D. I thought mine was defective!! It disarms after 6 seconds of being armed but with stoped motors.
    I found this on a UK forum:
    - The CLI command to change the auto disarm delay is: set auto_disarm_delay = s
    Where "s" is the time in seconds -
    Cheers!!

  • @hiwayM9
    @hiwayM9 Před 10 lety +1

    You could have shown how to calibrate esc's at 26:09 in about 1 minute: Unplug the battery, make sure the "Master" box is checked, put the "Master" switch to it's highest position, plug the battery in and listen for the esc's to beep their "high" point. Then simply click the bottom of the "Master" slider so it hits it's lowest position (don't slide it down- click the bottom of the slider so it jumps down) and you are done. It takes me longer to type it out than it does to do it.
    *edit- I forgot to consider if this applies to the mini board- it is how I do the full and acro boards. (courtesy dlearnt)

    My HERO! No other viddys exist to date on this. I was going nutz! I WILL say that the official Frsky dongle IS different and for folks to look CLOSELY at the output on the boards to see what pin goes where! My official dongle oddly wouldn't work. I ended up using a mini usb board used to interface with MinimOSD. What finally ended up working is NOT using the PC's battery input. I used an external battery and WOOT!

  • @SolarPoweredGardener
    @SolarPoweredGardener Před 10 lety

    Informative video Bruce as usual. I'm not sure about using the motor_stop feature. Yes it will stop an accident if you pick your mini up after a flight without disarming it first. But there again if it's just sat some where you do not know if it's armed or not. You can see if it's armed with the motors just ticking over....

    • @jase171973
      @jase171973 Před 10 lety

      I'm with motor stop.
      I've had mid air failures where I've cut power (props failed in mid air etc) so it's drops like a stone with dead motors rather than trying to disarm before it hits the ground (and burns all your escs from stalled motors)

  • @rcjoseb
    @rcjoseb Před 10 lety

    The safest way to test the motor/prop direction is to remove the props and use the motor test tab in the configurator to test the motors.

    Hello Bruce, again a fantastic video full of information, but I have to say if you use the Frsky usb 1 adapter, which I bought at HobbyKing, you blow up the Naze mini board and your usb port on your pc. The colors of the wiring are the same like you mention in the video but the connections are different. I programmed my Naze mini with a Arduino serial board,connecting the Gnd-TX-RX to the Naze mini. Almost ready for the maiden flight.

    The FTDI bit stands for the company that makes the chip those things use. It's a USB to Serial converter. The bigger naze boards have a SiLabs cp2102 which is just as good but cheaper.. you can get adapters with that chip for a lot less than the FTDI

    Meant to ask you Bruce, what RX for the radio do you use? I've got the afromini working on a quad with the "new" orange R615x, but I've heard BAD things about this RX, only using it because I had an orange module for the th9x, and it was dirt cheap. After my home made racing quad decided to fly off, with alot of stuff on it, I'm very much on a budget as usual. Even more so, about £250 flew off!
    Also, did you do a video on the 9xr, I've just got one to replace the th9x, as I'm sure (after it was dropped) this caused the fly away, I mean the programming side, I can't work out the timers.
    Thanks in advance, afromini is a great bit of kit, very neat build, I have 9 servo wires now to FC as opposed to 24. Neat nice one timecop!

    He's in Japan. It's spelled なぜ, pronounced nah-zay, romanized as na ze, and translates to "why".
    Also, the micro-usb transition is because he moved all the PCB components to the top of the board, and so the board's easier to assemble.

    Would you recommend the Naze32 as a first flight controller? You keep saying that the default PID settings are so well setup that they don't require changing, is it really that easy? I'd be going for a full size naze32 acro if any, but would a KK2.1 be better as a first controller? I've watched a good few of your reviews and videos and enjoyed all of them, you seem like a very knowledgeable guy. Thanks and greetings from Spain

      I think I have the same BG carbon frame on order. it's probably the same knock-off that has QA issues, but finding BG customer support good and refunds and replacements are forthcomming. I'm more a fan of APM (or APM on multiwii) but it's not so good for fast flying... so I'll be picking up a naze type at some stage... (hopefully not annoy the wife)

    Hi Bruce, thanks for the great video! I have a couple of questions concerning both these boards, but especially the mini one.
    1. I have a MultiWii Bluetooth module with its typical Vcc, GND, Rx and Tx pins, and was wondering if this would connect to the same place the USB header did in your video.
    2. Can I use the bluetooth conection to make the adjustnents from the program you showed instead of USB, and if so, how to you make the actual conection?
    3. The reason I have the BT module is because I was recommended it for on site adjustments with my tablet rather than fuffing about with USB and laptops for PID adjustments, and with the size of it, installed permanently next to the míni Naze32 it is still smaller and lighter than the afro Naze, and if PC access can be obtained via this, then great... but is there an Android equivelent of this program to do it all from a tablet or is the tablet only good for PID adjustments and nothing more?
    4. When you do the adjustments video, could you also show how to do it on an Android device, and see what app you would recommend, as there are so many to choose from.
    Thank you so much, and keep up the good work!

    It is important to know not all USB - serial adaptors (refered here by Bruce as the FTDI) are created equal.
    There are 3 major chipsets on the market designed to do this conversion. FTDI, the original and still the best, Silabs, good with some reservations and Prolific in particular the PL2303. Many unreliable non genuine copies out there which is why Prolific have dropped the chip since their reputation was being unfairly tarnished.
    If you are buying on Ebay make sure the device is supported under that steaming pile called Windows 8. Anything using the PL2303 chip is a no no as Prolific has dropped support beyond windows 7.
    As a general rule if the device is advertised as being Arduino compatible you should be good to go. I recommend getting a bare breakout board like Bruce's rather than an integrated cable as you will likely need this device for other RC related stuff. Selectable 3.3 and 5V is becoming more important these days to with the move away from 5V devices.

    I don't understand why this Mini Naze board hasn;'t been more popular - any reason not to run it vs the full size board? Aside from the barometer?

    Hi! Quick question please. I have MJX X400 quadcopter. But really would like to build my one my self, do you know if is there a way to use the MJX R/C to connect it to the Naze Afro Mini or Naze 32? Buying radio controller will be extra cost so i would like to avoid it for now if possible. Thank you and have a nice day!

    I would have thought header pins for the FTDI adaptor would weigh more then micro usb, I think they should add one
