I actualy lprefer Tecsun 660 to Tecsun 880 - it would be fun to watch the two in a daytime bandscan competition 😉 73
It would be, but I had to sell the 880...I didn't like it much..the speaker amp was a bit much, and the SW sensitivity on the 660 seems way better.
It kills me that Tecsun doesn’t include RDS on any of their radios.

Does the 660 offer any improvement in reception on MW over the 398 or is the 390 series about as good as Tecsun gets on MW. This 660 looks to be one of the best performing radios of this size and price of any radio on SW and SSB. It is a good looking radio especially in black and really like all the functionality of the radio. Thank you for keeping us informed your a CZcams treasure.
The 660 does have Synchronous Detection on AM, it helps to eliminate offending stations that are near the one your trying to listen to. As far as sensitivity the 660 seems equal to my 398.

Synchronous Detection sounds like useful technology there seems to be a lot of synchronous detecting to do out there may just have to look for that in my next radio.

Would you recommend this or the CountyComm gp5 for a prepper who wants ssb capability?
If you have the room, the 660 would be my first choice. I have had little success finding and tuning in HAM activity with the GP5. With that said, if the budget were bigger, the C.Crane Skywave SSB would be a consideration because of it's smaller size and inclusion of the Weather Band and Alert mode.
How are all your pl-660s holding up?
does it scan on SW?
You can browse with the VF key, which is the best way to find stations. The Auto Tuning System, ATS feature is not that great at picking up stations.
