  • Thank you for checking out our new BTS series! Three older heavy metal fans react to BTS songs and rank them on an incremental 10 point scale. The second reaction and ranking in this series is to the "Mic Drop" MV. This was the very first time any of us heard this song. How will three hard rock/heavy metal fans react to the biggest band to hit the music scene since The Beatles? What will the BTS Army think of our ranking? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

    I am 51 and grew up on Rock and heavy metal. I been to Metallica concert and Guns and Roses twice, AC/DC etc but BTS blows all of them away for me. They have the most diverse music catalog of any group. They do Rap, hip-hop, R&B, ballads, pop etc. I have never heard a song in there 300+ list that I don't like. You have to turn on subtitles your missing half of what makes there music great they have such good lyrics. Also watch them live they are amazing. the best live performers I have ever seen. Introduction to BTS 2021 by IDA S is an up to date version and would help to give you some more background about the group.

    The fact that it is the mother of you middle-aged guys who turned you on to BTS is not just the best thing ever, it's also supremely indicative of how BTS has grown so huge worldwide. You guys could be the poster children of that, in fact. 😆 I am a 55-year-old mom who was first introduced to BTS by my now college-age daughter, but who really fell down the rabbit hole after she left for college during the pandemic. I am enjoying your reactions - this is my second so far. I love your ranking system, and I am now laughing at your "Dynamite" ranking starting at 9.5 and this one getting a 9. Just wait until you dive deeper into their discography. As a fan of Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Def Leppard during my high school/college years (and since), I can tell you that the deeper you go, the more you'll like.
    Be sure to turn on the subtitles - they are available for pretty much all music videos. Some people watch twice - once for the video and music and once for the lyrics. You would regret also monitoring the lyrics if you don't - it's a huge part of what makes them amazing. Another option is that you could read the lyrics first on your own (the doolset bangtan website is a great resource for all BTS lyrics), then watch the videos. I don't recommend lyric videos where official music videos aren't available, unless you go with Affectaed CZcams channel - theirs are pretty good, according to those who've been in the fandom for a lot longer than I am. Looking forward to more reactions!

    Keep in mind BTS have over 250 songs of various genres hiphop, rnb, pop, edm, latin, jazz, and neo-soul. They are so versatile. A lot of BTS fans actually prefer BTS Korean songs because they are able to be more creatively involved because only 1 member speaks english fluently. Those toys are actually called Tiny Tans. Love that your mom is ARMY. Thanks for reacting.

    • @rjbirmingham
      @rjbirmingham Před 2 lety +4

      @@TournamentPodcast You might be surprised that they speak other langauges as well. JHope, Jimin, RM and Taehyung (V) speak Japanese (not all are fluent) - they have done whole albums in Japanese. Jin and JHope speak conversational Chineses/Mandarin. Several appear to understand and read spanish and some french, but only speak phases. They may have better skills but in Korea it would disrespect to use a language you do not speak well. Moreover, they have to be careful because if they miss say a word it could be taken out of context.
      Finally, they also are known for making up words such as "Boahae" which means "I purple you" (combo of the groups color and I love you) which is used between ARMY members and between ARMY and BTS. You should boahae your mom!

    There are many metal heads who are Army, and the age range is between 2 to 70+. You missed the meaning of song as it was to disrespect their haters who said that they would not make it, that their company was too small, that they weren't hip hop. So basically they are saying sorry they made Billboard, sorry they are worldwide, sorry that they have so many awards that they can't count them. This song is 70% in English, but it helps to have closed captions on. Just ask yourself, do American artists make videos like this?
    To watch many of the BTS videos with closed captions on, react to it twice. The first time for the visuals and then the second time to watch the lyrics. You guys are on reading subtitles level 1, you will get better at it.

    Im 68 and have been a BTS fan since I first saw them in 2017 on the AMA's I liked them instantly and once i learned more about them I fell in love with them I would adopt them all as honorary grandchildren If I could. They stand for all the things I value, they promote self love and acceptance even tho they themselves often run into prejudice because of their country of origin or because they wear make-up which is all K-pop idols. Personally I think a lot of people in the western music industry are scared of them because they cover everything and they dance and their live performances are amazing. I am hoping to see them live on day (I live in Australia and found them just after they last toured here).

I hope you will continue to learn more from her as well about the boys. Most of their songs have deep meanings to them. They don't sing about women or drinking or body parts shaking, lol. They spread love and hope and acceptance. They are also the most humble, respectful, genuine group of young men I have even seen. All of this you will learn if you continue down the rabbit hole. And again it sounds like your mom can tell you more as well. Also you can rank whatever you want a 10 if you like, lol. ARMY will be here to watch you no matter what you rank them. I would recommend MMA 2019, it is a longer video but again ARMY has no problem watching anything reactors want to watch. We love new people discovering BTS and how amazing they are. Other recommendations I have are Permission To Dance, BTS Room Live, Fake Love, Not Today, Save Me, and DNA. A little more info is that they use very little green screens or CGI. They make behind the scenes video to show how they make their videos. I hope this helps with your journey and thank you again. And FYI I am a 53 year old ARMY 💜💜💜

    Learning languages is so fun at any age because it opens up a whole new world and a new way of seeing the world, which I think is important. Good luck with your Spanish lessons! It is a fun language and has the advantage that you pronounce things as they are spelt, unlike English. I have been learning Korean for the last year, largely to understand BTS and their lyrics with proper nuances and so I can watch KDramas without subtitles. It is such a beautiful language, though quite tricky for an Eng/Port/Sp speaker due to the different sentence structure and alphabet. All good fun though.

      @@TournamentPodcast Awesome to hear :) Neither has a music video, but UGH has a lyric video (turn on captions bc it's a pretty heavy song about anger and the pain and danger the wrong type of anger causes). And Dionysus has several live performances which are amazing. I don't know if you all are ready for the MMA 2019 performance yet (you have to work your way up to that one). They have a Dionysus performance with an extended prelude which include an instrumental song/dance number for each member before the actual performance. But I will recommend a video that is just a regular performance of the song.

    BTS write most of their lyrics, compose, and produce their own music. The three rappers in the group are the main songwriters and producers, producing their group album, solo album, or their own mix tapes. But the rest 4 vocalists actively participate in writing and producing their albums as well. Since BTS write most of their lyrics, except for their English songs, its important to turn on English caption so you can understand what theyr singing about. The three rappers often release their trio projects, which are rap & hip hop songs, and the lyrics are very very important in their music. so I recommend you watch their music video or listen to their music with caption on. They dont normally sing about love songs. They sing mostly about themselves, the struggles and ups & downs of their life both professional and personal life, self-love, self doubt, and a lot of mental issues and philosophical topics, often associated with literary references.
