    Damn, I remember watching this show in the UK during the 80's, it aired either very late at night or very early in the morning, Fridays or Saturdays, I can't quite remember. This was in the pre-internet days when some songs might take a while to reach the UK so it was a useful guide to what might become the hits of tomorrow over here. Thanks for the nostalgia bump!

    Remembering another radio influence.. 🙁
    Randy A. Carlisle's My Remembering JUNE 15
    2014 - Casey Kasem, American radio host, producer, and voice actor, co-created American Top 40 (b. 1932)
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_Kasem
    Kemal Amin Kasem (Arabic: كمال أمين قاسم) was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 27, 1932, to Lebanese Druze immigrants, Helen and Amin Kasem, who were grocers. He was named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a man Kasem said his father respected. Kasem's parents did not allow their children to speak Arabic and insisted they assimilate into American life.
    Kemal Amin "Casey" Kasem (April 27, 1932 - June 15, 2014) was an American disc jockey, actor and radio presenter, who created and hosted several radio countdown programs, notably American Top 40. He was the first actor to voice Shaggy Rogers in the Scooby-Doo franchise (1969 to 1997 and 2002 to 2009) and Dick Grayson/Robin in Super Friends (1973-1985).
    In 1952, Kasem was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Korea. There, he worked as a DJ/announcer on the Armed Forces Radio affiliate on the peninsula, the American Forces Korea Network (AFKN).
    He initially quit voicing Shaggy in the mid to late 1990s when asked to voice Shaggy in a Burger King commercial, but returned in 2002 after negotiating to have Shaggy become a vegetarian once again.
    In October 2013, Kerri Kasem announced her father had Parkinson's disease, diagnosed in 2007. However, a few months later, she said he had Lewy body dementia, which is hard to differentiate from Parkinson's. His condition left him unable to speak during his final months.
    On June 6, 2014, Kasem was reported to be in critical but stable condition in hospital in Washington state, receiving antibiotics for bedsores and treatment for high blood pressure. It was revealed he had been bedridden for some time. On June 15, 2014, Kasem died at St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington, at the age of 82. The immediate cause of death was reported as sepsis caused by an ulcerated bedsore. His body was handed over to his widow. Reportedly, Kasem wanted to be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
    Jean Kasem had him interred at Oslo Western Civil Cemetery (Norway) on December 16, 2014, more than six months after his death.
    (Lawsuits followed), The suits were settled in 2019...

    Cheap Trick is from Rockford, not Chicago.
    It was so cool seeing them get a #1 single even though Rick Nielsen has crapped all over the song.
    Richard Marx would eventually keep Def Leppard from hitting #1. Although they finally did later in the year with "Love Bites".
    This Top Ten has better music than anything in the Top Ten today.

      @chewybunz Před rokem +1

      The program only ran for a half-hour. They NEVER played any song in the countdown in its entirety. In fact, back in '82, when I watched the show, they would only play one video from the top 10, albeit from start to finish.

    • @chewybunz
      @chewybunz Před rokem

      @@jackphilips9526 What you likely recall is the spotlights, when they would play an entire video from each of four Top 10 categories: Hot 100 Singles, Top 200 Albums, Country/Western, Black/Soul. Those would be full songs, although they likely stuck to the shorter ones. They may have trimmed that a bit by the late 1980s, in order to devote more time to the pop singles chart. I stopped watching in 1983, but caught a few episodes in the early 90s when they replaced Kasem with Tommy Puett.
