  • OVERCOMING TINNITUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
TINNITUS, RINGING EARS OR EAR NOISE IS THE CONTINUOUS PERCEPTION OF NOISE INCLUDING RINGING, ROARING, BUZZING, WHINING, OR CRACKLING. THESE SOUNDS ARE HEARD IN THE ABSENCE OF EXTERNAL SOUNDS.
POPULAR BELIEF IS THAT TINNITUS IS CAUSED BY DAMAGE TO PARTS OF THE EAR PERHAPS FROM A LOUD SOUND AND SEVERE EMOTIONAL OR PHYSICAL STRESS. RESEARCH UNDERTAKEN BY HAZEL AND JASTREBOFF INDICATES THAT, CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, TINNITUS OR "EAR NOISE" IS A "BRAIN THING" NOT AN "EAR THING". IN THIS REGARD, STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT MOST PEOPLE WILL PERCEIVE TINNITUS IF LEFT IN A PERFECTLY QUIET ROOM FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.
Tinnitus is the condition where a phantom noise is heard inside the head. It can be loud or soft, intermittent or permanent. The sound can be anything from ringing to buzzing, hissing, rustling, clanging or roaring.

to be honest, i didnt really know what tinnitus was. i just know when it's really silent i hear static/ringing. and now that i know that is an actual condition, i feel like acknowledging it as a condition made it worse.

    • @Emma98Hato
      @Emma98Hato Před 9 lety +21

Same goes for me. I always thought everyone heard some static/ringing-ish sound when it's silent, like I do. I once mentioned this to my friends and they looked at me like I was crazy. Now I know that it's a condition, I feel like it's gotten worse really quickly. Because I pay attention to it, probably..

Christina Odisey It seems that you have a similar form of tinnitus like me. How long have you been hearing it? I have it since I was 4 or 5 and when I learned that it was an actual condition it got also worse but it got back to "normal" levels after some weeks when I didn't think too much about it anymore. So just live your live and don't think too much about it. I got used to the sound over the years but I don't know if people can get used to it if they got it later than me.

I have had tinnitus for many years, and know that until the day I die I will never again know a moment of silence. This sound works great for masking the "crickets" in my ear, but it is just basically replacing one sound with another. My ear doctor told me I have tinnitus, along with minor hearing loss in the upper ranges, and I do find it harder to hear the voices of my younger female students now. Tinnitus can only be masked, dealt with, and/or ignored. It is mostly noticeable in the absence of other sounds (especially in a quiet area) or when focused on. Don't let anyone fool you folks. There is no cure. You have to learn to deal with it, and you can. There are far worse things in life.

I have had tinnitus for 3 years, and now I feel better although it's still working. I think the following tips may help those who suffer from this unremitting sound. First, they should sleep well. Second, try to avoid sitting in quiet places. Third, keep themselves busy during the day; by for example, chatting with friends, go jogging, cooking, walking, fishing, etc. The only factor which, from my point of view of course, may deteriorate the patient's psyche is "isolation". So, people with tinnitus HAVE TO BE sociable and talkative to reduce the negative impact of tinnitus on their psychological life.

Wasn't searching directly for this but just chanced upon it now. Very nice as I've dealt with tinnitus for most of my life despite being able to still hear close to 18kHz. Several years ago I designed a computer that creates a soft hum-like white noise from its fans, and this allows me to easily fall asleep.
Never really knew this therapy existed, but considering I've listening to something similar to this sound for eight hours each evening, I was wondering if I have to be conscious while listening since the ringing persists in dead quiet.

This type of white noise therapy does wonders for me. It gives me a break from the constant noise in my head. Yes, you could say that you are just exchanging one noise for another but I would argue that it gives me back some control due to the fact that I can always turn off the recording. The key to this working for me is to put my headphones on the outside of my ear canals (I but the ear pieces on the upper lobe of my ears) and then adjust the volume where I can just slightly hear my Tinnitus. This approach helps you to learn to tune out your Tinnitus while still participating in conversations, watching TV, listening to music or just hearing ambient noises (ie. traffic, the wind, rain, etc.). Tinnitus sucks but, with patients and the right approach, it can be overcome (habitutation).

  • @toodazedandtooconfused7343

My so called friend of mine blew a party popper in my ear, 24 hours ago and i've had a ringing in my left ear and a lack of hearing since then too. I'm really hoping it goes away but fearing that it may stick around for a while.. It's so crazy how we as human beings take so many things for granted these days and honestly, if the ringing ever clears up and my hearing comes back i'm going to live the rest of my life by pushing everyday to the fullest. I wish the best of luck to anyone struggling with any sort of hearing or sight problems, and can only present the advice that we could be off worse. This whole situation has really put me in perspective of life and just how delicate it really is. Best wishes to anyone who reads or sees this

Now I've got tinnitus and I'm so nostalgic for that ear wax "problem"! I wish there were some sort of product that could let you be just temporarily deaf, like while trying to sleep. This sound therapy sometimes helps and sometimes not. I probably need to listen to it longer than 15 minutes at a time.

I am 64yrs old, and experienced an awful dizziness attack when aged 8 yrs old, at school, couldn't walk straight, felt very sick, lasted approx 15 mins. I've suffered attacks for years, now, the noise is in both ears. Also, I have raised blood pressure, probably makes it worse. Sometimes, it affects my sleep, and I cry, but I'll sleep well the next night. I have, when feeling pretty desperate, thought of suicide, but, have my faith in Jesus, so wouldn't do that. This shower noise eases the Tinnitus, and believe me, you can learn to deal with it, and live your life.

I "reach" for the silence. 3) Lift weights 3 times a week, do cardio 3x a week. I expect I'll have a dramatic decrease in a week or so. Try it. Good Luck.

But I would stick this on and it really helped. Haven't used it for months, coming up to a year I think, but just lately its getting louder and wont quieten down to a level that I can cope with without a bit of help, so came back to this for a bit of relief.

Wow! I listened to this for only 20 minutes and already when I turned it off, my tinnitus was so much better! The slight ringing in my left ear was reduced by quite a lot! I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I noticed my tinnitus last night and I couldn't get to sleep because of it. In the end, I fell asleep without the help of noise therapy. I think mine is caused by illness, because I have a really sore throat at the moment.
But for anyone concerned, this video really doesn work for cancelling out tinnitus WHILST you listen to it. I don't know if it will work for me and help afterwards...

Alexander VP Buy some ER20s from Etymotic Research and ensure you don't have tinnitus after the next concert...or that tinnitus one day will become permanent. Trust me, I've had mine for almost 6 years now. I wear ER20s now for every show so it doesn't get worse. They are far superior to foam earplugs or silicone swimmer's plugs because they don't reduce the treble substantially more than the bass, so you can still enjoy the sibilance of cymbals, hi-hats, esses, etc. For those who enjoy music, these earplugs are a must (unless you can afford musician's earplugs custom molded to your ear canal)

I've truly lived with ears ringing for some time, at times almost unbearable and also other periods not necessarily as well negative. Yet often there. Someone tried some thing known as 'Oakloe' and acquired effects. I tried this as well and still have also been so pleased. This ringing still arrives and should go, but it is so far better. Idea this could become useful.

Also if I make sports - for me its seems to be blood circulation problem. I would so badly know where it comes from and how I could influence it. By the way, I cannot get asleep without that video anymore, the tinnitus gets worse and worse. But never give up hope. Try your best, eat healthy food, try to make good sports and stay always friendly and don't let you provoke by other people. I wish you best

I know it can be hard to live with that disease, but please dont even think about it getting worse, think positive. Psychologic studies have shown, that positive thinking and smiling people experience recovery, where negative thoughts and pesimistic attitude made it worse. I myself trust in God and believe that he will lead me through this during my life on earth. Here: No temptation3 has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted4 beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,5 he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor 10,13. Wish you the best!

Also do lots of excersize and get really tired so you can sleep as well as you can.it can be a really positve thing to have and contribute to overall happiness

It will get better. I started with Tinnitus in April and it was bad. Now I have more good days than bad--it never goes away but I don't notice it and I can function. Hang in there and you will begin to adjust and it won't drive you so nuts. Also, I take Lipo-Flavonoid Plus (at Walgreens, recommended by my ENT), Zinc, Magnesium and Cinnamon daily. Stay away from caffeine and too much salt (including sodas). Get good headphones and listen to this when you need to focus. Have hope. It will be ok!
