Garbage Men at Work

- Every year in Elk Grove, Republic Services sends out a rear loader and Tink claw crew to collect bulky waste set outs in an assigned neighborhood. Each neighborhood is given a month when the pickups will occur. The set outs are known to be very heavy during certain points in the year, which results in normal backlogs that get cleared up over the week. However, on this particular week the crew had fallen behind and requested help from the yard. Two extra helpers arrived from the yard as assisted the crew in loading the truck. This made for a much faster paced video and is one of my favorites in the Bulky Waste Collection.
The title "Garbage Men at Work" was selected by one of the swampers on the route, Keith.

I've been a collector for 1 month now and I absolutely love it
That's a slick way of running a big bulk route. A 4 man crew and the big claw really cleans up quick.
Yeah. The crew worked really well and still finished earlier than normal, which was nice. Citrus Heights runs multi crew teams with like five people and three rear loaders.
Wow as I get older and watch these videos I do realize finally what a wasteful Nation we really are how many good items of furniture and appliances are simply thrown out because they're not the newest and the greatest and the best and nobody wants them. I cannot imagine if America would have to go back to an earlier time were you appreciated what you had. Countries all over the world would be grateful to even dream of having something like this that were simply throwing away
Cool go donate all your stuff and move into a tent
Stfu bum
Watch rubbish compacting videos in Australia and Europe. It's the same thing. Perfectly usable items going into the truck. That's what all developed nations seem to do.
It's sad, especially when global warming appears to be a runaway effect. We all should be reducing, reusing and recycling.
These guy,s doing a great JOB!
Keep it clean!
Good control with the grabber
Hooray for the Tink Claw!
Some have commented inefficient. This really is the most efficient and safest way to handle this. To manhandle all of this debris would take much longer.
I agree. It might look like it is more messy, but it greatly reduces the wear on the body of the employees.
@@cagarbagetrucks There are a lot of sharp dangerous items in a debris pile. Let the machine do the dirty work and workers stay safe. No workmen's comp. claims. I think any company would agree.
We do this every single week in the city I work in. Residents have 52 times a year to put stuff out and we pick it up.
Sounds like a LOT of work every week!
Ford. Residents there are spoiled rotten.
Yes they are definitely very spoiled.
Mattresses, furniture, vacuum cleaners, fans it never ends.
We seriously need to raise our rates.
@@cagarbagetrucks þ? Nñ
Its interesting that they would use the loader for bulk with all helpers around.
Yeah, we don't normally use this many people. It was one of those "all hands on deck" calls which resulted in a lot of help. One of the laborers here works in the yard normally, the other guy drives a flatbed truck and tags houses all day, notifying them that there clean up day is coming. They were just so behind that day so they needed the help. Made for a fun video.
X
That heavy stuff helps machine a lot to get quicker more people much easier
Expensive way of collecting hard rubbish. 4 men + rear loader. Great video.
Hey Rodal, maybe you like to watch my garbagetruck video
We need that loader in downtown Portland
Don't forget the camera men. He is always ahead recording
The dude didn't even look inside the Styrofoam cooler to see there's anything in it
What do you think of my garbagetruck video? Its in Amsterdam, would like to hear your opinion on it 😃
In the old days (80s) we could pick up freezers, refrigerators too. Crush, crunch, repeat. Enjoy.
Now this is the way to avoid back injuries!
Where's the fun in that lol
Back in My day, we did ALL THAT by HAND.
Sometimes, the crew does do these route by hand. In my new "The Crushers" series, they started out the route manually, then moved to the tink claw!
Still do in my area
That claw is good for picking up green waste like leaves or lawn clippings, but not so much this stuff. It loads up sofas easily, but it gets in the way of productivity with the smaller stuff. Too many people standing around.
Thanks for sharing this anyways, I enjoy things for what they are!
They have since changed it, most of the loading is done manually, except for the large piles. They run two trucks now, instead of just one.
@@cagarbagetrucks Good to know. Thanks for the video!
No problem. Thanks for watching it. I’ll upload one with the newer style of collection eventually.
Reminds me of the old days. Harder to scavenge though with all the people.
What a more inoperative way to collect garbage, with so much technological progress and it is still collected as in the 19th century,
I don't think this is the regular pick-up. They have several guys on-site and the machine loading because this was probably a special annual or semi-annual bulk pick up where they will pick up big things that can't fit into trash cans, like Christmas trees and mattresses, without charging a separate fee.
This was a specialized pickup, aimed for reducing illegal dumping of large, hard-to-handle items. It only occurs one-per-year (at the time of recording). It has since expanded to three appointments per year, at no additional cost.
Count your blessings that we even have garbage men, especially for the amount of items that we put into the trash expecting the garbage men to take it. We're lucky that we don't have to take our trash to the landfill ourselves. There are plenty of perfectly good items that we can give to someone who needs them instead of leaving it for the garbage men. I believe in respecting our garbage men by not leaving them with too much work. What's wrong? Nobody has any respect for our garbage men? They're important people in our community.
+brooktoman I agree with you completely. Utilize non-profit donation services or online marketplaces for reusable goods.
I agree with some of your comment. But the reality is if we didn't leave all this junk for them to pick up, they'd be out of work. If you really want to show appreciation for the trashmen, give them ALL your work. The more trash you set out equals more work which equals more money for them.
you misunderstood my point. when I say "more work which equals more money", I mean that in the sense of a continuing paycheck. the more trash customers setout, you will continue to get a paycheck.
If people want to show their appreciation for Trashmen, don't put 50 lb Plus in one bag, for example cat litter and dirt..Take your grass cuttings and dirt and go dump it Overhill somewhere. Leave your lid on so rats, raccoons, and possums don't make it their home.. and leave your lid on so when it rains the can doesn't get flooded, It wont be taken.
this person must be a garbage person - respecting people yes - for sure. but “leaving them with too much work” youre insane for that comment.
great job guys
These guys must union.
This yard is non-union.
They must have one hell of a union
I believe this yard is non-union.
In that first clip, they just spent 5 minutes doing a 30 second job. There’s 3 labourers on roadside!!
Are you sure they work for Republic Services or the city. Haha
That is one awesome tractor
it probably would have been a better idea to go with a with a roll-off truck carrying a 40 cubic yard dumpster, assuming the loader has enough reach to clear the top of the dumpster while its on the truck
Y'all cheating,I've been a garbage man since 2004 and with republic for three years and this is not the way we pick up garbage. All we have is the driver and two helpers on the back but mostly one.We never picked up garbage with the help of a tractor.🤣🤣
I agree. I worked at republic thru a temp agency before waste hired me. My driver and I had a double pickup route one day. We packed out with 17.5 tons the first truck load and the truck was 2/3s of the way full. It was just me and the driver
I work in gardena yard..and this isn't the way we pick up bulky items...i wished that was the way...haha
Just look at the city of Phoenix, they use a tractor and are really quick with it
Hey Robert, seeing the garbagemen in Amsterdam work is fun to watch, whats your opinion on my new video if I may ask you. Have a good day 😁
Not “Garage Men”, ‘sanitation engineers “ Look how important there job is for society. Thank you for your service.
That’s very true!
Great video!
+Trash Trackers Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Great filming! If people would clean their homes more than once a year, it wouldn't get so bad!
+Cheryl Andersen Yeah, they are changing it in 2018 to three times per year.
Most trash company's only have one time extra pu per year
Surprised they didn't use the loader to put the stryofoam cooler in the truck...
Never seen anything like this in my life. Must have money to burn.

It’s free to do a bulk pickup
Only in America they say!
My friend,you havn't seen anything
We had two men on back , we'd throw trash in and be long gone in the time these guys took! That was over 25 years ago! We dumped 55 gallon trash barrels.
No recycling?
It is sorted out at a recovery facility. Approx. 80% is recycled.
if the guys in yeallow would walk just a bit slower, they would not be walking, they would be on sleep :D
Super!!
Great video dude! I wish Republic Services would run more RLs like this down here. It's cool that more companies are doing more community clean ups . Keep them coming!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the bulky waste video. Another addition to my bulky waste series will be out soon, so keep an eye out for that. Republic Services really should adopt this style of community clean up in more places. It really keeps illegal dumping down.
Good job
Is a front end loader really the most efficient way to do that. Most of that could be picked up by a human and save thousands on machine cost
Not to mention adding the extra pollution.
it's for the bulky stuff too big to safely pick up by hand
I can't believe they collect garbage this way. Now we have to separate it or they won't take it and get charged. They complain that stuff like this damages equipment and people.
Hey Jeff, you might like my garbagetruck video :)
Parabéns nota 10
Why leave half the stuff there on the road? @ 5:50?
They came back for it. I just didn't catch it on film.
yes they were
How much is this costing to the client? I mean, this is a one man job, max two man job and it would go faster without the loader.....
Thinking the same thing. This is every day one-man stuff. And it would take me a fraction of the time...
back injuries
It's was a special circumstances due to the holiday week and needing to clear the streets.
A lot of that could have been donated to keep out of landfills, Reduce reuse recycle is the best way.
Wow!
O coração chega doer de ver tanta coisa sendo destruída e as pessoas aqui no Brasil necessitando .
Podiam embalar e mandar pra eu fazer doações.
Aqui e America rica!
5:45 They drove right past the chest of drawers! Makes me wonder why they provide this service since that chest of drawers didn't seem like anything that would've bothered either the trash truck or scoop.
They came back for them, I just didn't record that part.
4 guys that’s crazy it takes longer then 2 guys
They could of loaded that faster by hand, dont need that loader
Mike Krueger well it’s easier
Mike Krueger work smarter not harder
You must be fun to work with...
In many of these type videos no one's wearing eye protecting goggles in case a projectile occurs when the garbage is being compacted.
That red ball was like comon im to young to die so ran away
Nice
I like the title.
Thanks. One of the helpers suggested the name when I asked what to name it. lol.
Nice clam bucket machine.
Man I worked in trash for 40years from residential to commercial to supper vision and they never had it this easy usually one man on a truck and this tractor thing behind them no way you loaded this shit by hand
no problem
Hola bebe 🇵🇦
Recycling dam it. 😨😤
awesome. glad its sorted. soo much cardboard
+Brian Spencer The cardboard on this route was pretty heavy, not terribly common in an older area. New areas tend to have mountains of it, since these people recently moved in.
+California Refuse Trucks why for me does your comment show up like six times.
I am not sure. It doesn't on my screen. lol. Try refreshing.
+California Refuse Trucks it shows only one of your comments now.
That's good! :)
Bargaje men que triste ver cómo se va la cosa buena que le servirán a tantas personas que lo necesitan cosa buena Y en un minuto las aplastan que pena,,,,2paraEllos
Awesome! I love seeing bulk footage and I wish my city had bulk
+Simco Barker TrashTrucks How do the residents in your area get rid of it? Do they have to self haul to the dump/transfer station?
+California Refuse Trucks yes they have to self haul to the transfer station
Wow, that is a bummer. Maybe local companies will adopt the idea for bulky waste collection.
I really didn't see much change in time with the extra helpers. To me there were too many guys for 1 truck. Seems they would get in the way of each other. They should have sent an extra rl out there for extra help. That way the extra helpers could hand toss some piles in another area. That would seem more efficient. Also weird not seeing Keith in a tractor. Lol.
Yea, the extra helpers worked well at some point, especially during some parts not shown on camera because they were pretty fast. They did end up trying to send out the ex BFI one, but Citrus Heights needed to use it. Yeah Keith and the other driver switches spots every other week.
Haha! Once again Citrus Heights is better than Elk Grove!
+KennysTrucks Yeah. In one way. Elk Grove still looks nicer. 😜
It does, but we are better truck wise.
What type of camera are you using to film this? The picture quality is extremely clear and crisp.
Don’t listen to all these trashy comments, lol Thanks for the video
This is an older one of my videos, so it was produced with an iPhone 6 at 1080p60. My new camera is a Panasonic G7. Thanks for the comment!

Ola!
The most idiotic way to collect the trash ever seen.
john piper omg you right I’m like why the machine behind,
Agree
13:55 ....
Well, it's California, so that explains a lot.
@Crazy dog 619load it by hand much faster.
Crew of 4 🤔 for one truck !! Really 😒
You would never see something like this on the east coast 2 people to a truck 3 if the driver was hurt . That loader is slowing them down .
Vilma Rivas 3 is all you need
In Maryland its 3 to a truck. We move at a fast pace and cover big areas.
that is stupid
It is probably a effort to get them off the road quicker
gute job thanks 👍😄
How do you recycle this? Please tell me it isn’t going to land fill.
lot of places have what they call a MRF which is a Material Recovery Facility where much of it is sorted out to keep recyclable stuff out of the landfill also perhaps a similar facility for trash bags to sort out the recyclable from the landfill crap
Why do ya need a crew of 3 when assisted by a tinker loader?!
That's the council for u standing bout work for your money man
The most inefficient and costly way to collect trash ever.....
Ginosaji reference
It's was a special circumstances due to the holiday week and needing to clear the streets. It was definitely more people then they normally have.
cool
Awesome! 😊
Kaleb Hendershott Dhfzfz
Lot ppl saying this is a waste but there is a lot of trash it would take hours for two men to gather all of the trash on that route it's 4 of them who get paid 20 an hour time is money so it's gonna get spent anyway and those construction vehicles are meant to take on long work loads so the cost of maintenance isn't a lot if you get the job the faster
Excellent point! When this video was filmed, this company was working to clear the streets before the following week. It was about how fast they needed to work at the time.
por Dios tanto que me hacen falta esos muebles u ahí los tiran ¡¡ realmente me dan ganas de llorar!¡¡ desde Argentina provincia de cordoba ¡¡
Why a crew of 4 when have tinker to assist?
Man where I am we do one or two on the back of the truck with no machines to help us sometimes the driver will help us though
They only do it on days of bulk pick up
That is correct! This truck was specifically assigned to bulky waste pick-up. It has since been reassigned to another yard/replaced by a CNG-powered vehicle.
- in 1985, - " BFI",,,. Laidlaw,,. Waste Management, Republic waste, --had 2 helpers,,
Today in my area the Republic truck that serves my house has 0 helpers. It is an automated arm that empties the half yard tote that Republic issues to each customer into the bucket mounted on the front of the truck. The only person on the vehicle is the driver.
Nossa o caminhão destrói tudo
That dude in the mini excavator knows absolutely s*** about how to operate it and even the grapple on the front LOL everything in a neat pile but first he has to crush it in and stretch it out twice the size then push it back together again here's an idea guy why not set the claw flat on the pavement and push forward.... the hardest working guys in this group are the three behind the truck
a1wireless1964 haha its not an excavator, it's a front end loader.
In all honesty a country like this is worth watching only the videos and writing
It is well organized country, very clean, after all what country is this ??
Brazil is not even at the feet of this country there ..
Congratulations to the cleaning workers and congratulations to the mayor, or gonvernador, or president of that country.
What country is this ???
Cool do you like the Packers I miss allied wast side loder garbge trucks
+Hunter Johnson Yeah, I really miss seeing the Allied Waste branded trucks. They were very nice to see around, and they were a good company.
No me explico cómo las personas botan cosas tan buenas
SILVIA HERNANDEZ ,WRITE IGLESH.
I wanna know where that red ball went
I believe the rear load driver picked it up and put it in the cab as the new stress ball.
Doing it the old school way wow!!!!
I see a lot of metal being thrown away what happened to recycling😂😂😂
All the materials collected here gets sent it a recycling facility where around 90% of the materials are recycled. Metal is sorted out and baled for sale.
While 80% of recycling materials become contaminated.
👍👍👍
EXCELENTE .
Vvggggyfrygugg
Is it an Ex- allied waste?
Más desmadre en concreto y en el pavimento
Wow, talk about overstaffed, LOL. One guy to run 'The Claw' another guy to sweep up afterwards, another guy to run the compactor and someone to drive the truck. You can tell they are overstaffed when you see guys just standing there doing nothing :-)
It's was a special circumstances due to the holiday week and needing to clear the streets.
Looks very very unsafe noone is spotting traffic.
These are residential streets, so the driver and helps all keep an eye out on traffic when they are stopped in the roadway. Most of the time, they try to stay in the shoulder and use the strobes and hazards to warn drivers. If they have to collect on a busy street, a pickup truck will follow the crew with strobes and hazards on to block the lane.
They're people live in ☀️🌞
It is sunny here in California!
Wow..... that's painful to watch
at 17:00 .. imagine someone was sitting on the bike .. and getting a lift up :-) (i would like to have it)
;-;
How are these guys clean?? I come home covered in shit water everyday..
Robert Baker because they have a big fucking digger doing their jobs for them
Hola tu eres de ay de estados unido me encanta tener amigo de aya no entiendo el ingres❤🇵🇦
theyre marking up the street with that tractor that picks up the trash
marking up is very minor compared to tearing it up
It's cosmetic. With time is goes away.
