Like I understand that in western countries a lot of non vegan/vegetarian people donât eat tofu and think of it as a substitute for meat (I think?), but it still feels weird to me (a Japanese person).
Like you said, tofuâs just tofu and I hope more people realize the greatness of it.
All the people complaining about phytoestrogens in soy, not knowing how many plants foods (including coffee and beer) that most people eat contain phytoestrogen⊠and yâall probably eat eggs and drink diary, which is full of estrogenâŠ
Wow, I love it too, never thought about how it's made. Thanks.
I remember eating tofu as a snack during movies bc my mom always made it for me and even as a teen i get all excited and happy when my mom makes some for all of us
Always funny seeing the insecure little meat eaters crawl out of the woodwork. Don't worry - no one's taking your precious meat away from you! This is just an alternative. Bless them.
Looks good, by the way. Tofu is great, and really versatile when you know how to use it.
The problem is, it doesnât even have to be an alternative. Itâs just a staple ingredient in east asian countries. We throw both meat and tofu into our stews too. Tofu wasnât created to be a meat substitute, itâs just used as one.
@@Lumi0215 yeah, it looks like even if it's a bit of work, you could make a lot of it for very cheap and use it for a variety of things
đ
â@@Lumi0215 not even just east asian, SEA too. One of my favorite meals is tofu and pork mixed with vinegar dressing.
Do you prefer the one made from scratch over the store-bought one?
I've enjoyed experimenting with tofu dishes and grown to like it. It is way heaper protein source than meat is, which really helps with budgeting. I've heard fresh tofu is next level though and would like to try it some day.
Oooo looks yummy and I would love to give it a try
fresh soymilk is delicious đ€
No it's not it smells like actual dog shit.
â@@joanalorenzo6949 smells awful but it tastes wonderful imo
I made my own nigari from boiling sea water and the last water left from salt making is the nigari. It tastes sharp and bitter on your tongue. STPP will give you smoother texture tofu. But nigari will last forever.
What's NIGARI?.. &.. How is it made?
@@jayb.1124 Nigari is coagulant used by the Japanese to make tofu, like rennet to make cheese from milk. I made it by boiling 5 liters clean sea water. When the water is reduced and salt crystal formed, drain the salt. I got a cup of nigari and a cup of sea salt. Keep the water in a glass bottle and use it to make tofu. It won't go bad, just like salt. You can keep it forever.
Not too difficult, but definitely have to follow the steps correctly. Thanks for the demonstration
You are a talented patient cook đ©âđł â€
Now I gotta make this. Iâm sure the water that soaked the beans are good for plants. đ€·đ»ââïž
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm definitely going to try this
Thatâs pretty dope. Iâd be down to try that.
That acc looks pretty good
So much people having problems with the way she pronounced "Nigari" the way it was meant to be pronounced đż Like come on, if she were to say it in an American accent more of y'all are gonna pop up saying "EuWeugGhhh that is NOT how you pronounce it correctlyyyuhh đ it's not "Ni-Gow-Ree" it's "Nee-GUh-Ri" đđ Get outta here with that cultural appropriationnnuuhhhh đĄđĄđĄ" Like bro đż Can't say shit on the internet smh.

The whole process looks so relaxing in addition to being delicious!
I never bothered learning because I assumed it would be complicated and difficult. You made this look so doable, even for beginners. I had no idea that it was this simple to make tofu đ€Ż
Thanks alot for this video because it is soo expensive in the grocery where I am from.
What do you do with the milk solids that you remove at the beginning? Any use for that or is it waste/fiber?
Someone said you could fry it & itâs ( turns into or is also) Okara flour.
ăĄăăăšăè±è äœăŁăŠăŠăăăïŒ
That looks so silky and divine
Tofu is not just a vegetarian/vegan thing... have you ever had tofu with pork belly???? Throw on some kimchi and that shit is delicious.
@@littlePixelHadaSong maybe you should work on your reading comprehension skills
Tofu is not what I thought it was. Thank you for this
This inspired me to see if I could make tofu without soy and yes! Red lentil, chickpea and even split pea are all used in different regions.
Iâve never been a fan of tofu because of the soft texture it has in most restaurants. I wonder if Iâd like it if I made it myself and made it really firm. Because I like how it absorbs flavor from the other things in a dish. I just wish it wasnât so gummy.
Iâm not vegetarian though. Couldnât be if I wanted to. Need more red meat and iron than supplements alone can supply. Gotta love being incredibly anemic because of raging endometriosis that doctors donât take seriously lol. Losing a pint of blood out of my small, 8-9 pint body multiple times a month is greeeeeat. That being said, Iâd still like to try some firm tofu.
Have you tried fried tofu before? Tastes great. We like to dip it into fish sauce but that might be a little too foreign to you, so you could try it with smth else. Also you don't have to be vegetarian in order to enjoy tofu - it's consumed all over east asia and you hardly find vegetarians or vegans there
@@monimon9 yes I have tried it before. Like I said, I disliked it when I tried it because of the texture. It had nothing to do with the taste.
Also, I have no clue where you got the idea of fish sauce being foreign. Itâs been fairly universal for decades. My family has always had it in most meals both for its taste and bone/joint benefits.
I never said you had to be vegetarian or vegan to eat tofu. I just mentioned it because I didnât want people to assume it or assume I just didnât like tofu because itâs frequently seen as an alternative option to meat.
@@Schros_kittymany people dislike tofu flavour I am one of those
A firm fried tofu is much more enjoyable if you don't like the soft texture.
What is that pretty shower cap for your bowl in the beginning???
So glad to finally see this! Looks great!
Really interesting! Although I am a little shocked how much water it takes to make 1 piece of tofu...
I'm curious, did you discard the pulp or did you find another use for it?
Itâs currently in the fridge awaiting its destinyâŠwhich is yet to be determined haha.
@@SarahsVeganKitchen What other things CAN you use it for?
â@@gcook725 You can use it for tons of stuff! You can use it as a meat substitute, it can be used for baking, an ingredient in smoothies, you can put it in things like noodles, stir fry, fried rice. It's super nutritional and tasty
Wow tysm 4 sharing im doing this 4 my aunt n uncle đ±â€ïžđđđ
I have that exact same dress and I wear it the same way you do!!
I wish every human being had the time to make their own foods and explore their passions. Instead weâve created bullshit jobs in a bullshit economy that benefits a handful of people at the expense of the many
You can just shift to a village, you know that right?
You are stuck in this bs because you want to enjoy things that comes along with this bs. You can just opt to live in a small village where you have enough time, you have to work less, grow your own food, earn less and it would still be valuable, etc. You have that option.
@@PrincessMeganLeigh lmfao ikr thatâs such a stupid comment. âwhy are homeless ppl homeless? just get a houseâ kind of take
Do you think lime juice would work as coagulant?
lemon juice works so i think lime juice would work as well. but it creates a more crumbly texture and will taste like lime
Omg that's so cool! I love tofu so I'm definitely gonna try this one day!
I know that was rewarding. I also make tofu. I like to experiment with flavoring that's the tricky part.
TOFU IS JUST BEAN CHEESE???
you can also make it from milk ... basically in India what we do is put 2 to3 drops of lemon in warm water and just strain it use a cloth and then you have your indian version of tofu which here is popular as paneer ..
That is like saying butter is the same as margarine.
Love this!!
I like this it looks very easy đâșïžâ€ïž
Or pay $3 for a block. Just kidding đ I like your self-reliance.
So basically soy milk cheese? Nice.
This looks so interesting. Thanks đ
This is amazing! Imma try this one day once I have patience đ
Fun fact _ it's called paneer in India.and its ofc delicious
I thought paneer was cheese?
Paneer is made from milk not from soya bean....recipe is similar though
