I Really like the Alaska as well. They should give us a German T10 Supercruiser as well as some point with 13 inch guns or something and call it Wingthør or something. Nice Video! ^^

@UncappingBadger my understanding was that a BC is supposed to seek out and destroy cruisers, meaning the Alaskas were not BCs because they were supposed to defend the carriers *from* heavy cruisers. Cruiser-killer yes. Battlecruiser no.
@UncappingBadger due to improvements in gun and ammunition design, their guns actually had better penetration at most ranges than the older 14" guns on the US Superdreadnoughts, so she could probably give some of the older IJN capital ships a run for their money. But I agree on all other points, they weren't BCs.
I bought this ship on your recommendation and I have never looked back. Such a beast.

I'm now at 800k free xp and it took me roughly 4 years to get this amount, I'm not sure if I should spend all on the Alaska if I reach the million. I could spend money. However 50€ is to much.

Wasn't interested so far because I had the Missouri as credit farmer at T9. But it isn't a fun ship with its shotgun dispersion.

Last time cv spotted enemy cv at start of game, i was running spotter and so fired at the CV, citadeled him and killed him.... He was first blood

In a match last night with my beloved Alaska captained by Halsey. First Blood/Dev Strike sniping a Chappa, radar 2 dds down, Dev Strike an angled Drake, got "Confederate" 5 mins into the match, triple citadels an Iowa trying to turn around because she didn't know I got 12sec reload now, HE shells burnt her to death, "Kraken", "High Caliber", 12secs reload on these guns just handling citadels to every cruisers, finally rammed an almost full health Bismark "Die Hard". Broke my Alaska record. Glorious match.

I spent a full year getting the XP. I got the Alaska this week. Like my Mercedes, this ship is smooth, very fast and very forgiving. I found that the crusiers I face will back away from you when you confront them in an Alaska. That being said:
Always remember to angle.
Crusiers will outshot you but your guns when they hit will crush them
The ship handles well but, for me , it does better in open water. Islands are great to hide behind but open water is its element
This ship, with a DD or another crusier with torps can actually hold a flank.

I got my hands on the Alaska this week. First 2-3 games were a bit rough, because I overestimated it and got myself in stupid situations. But once you get the hang of it this ship is simply amazing. Feels so much more forgiving than any cruiser and many battleships. You can do things in the Alaska, that you absolutely can NOT do in the Missouri, because you are more maneuverable and harder to citadel. As a cruiser main this beauty is my new favorite ship of WoWS.

No one called it that. Alaska was a good BB1. You can consistently block shoot with the 12" guns. The Guam was even better.

I got the FXP one, then pulled the B version from a crate a couple weeks later :D All my credit problems seem to have been solved.

I've only been playing WOW for a few months and I love the game. I've been going down the USN light cruiser line (currently at the Cleveland). I started to get very tired of the USN LC line, as they get killed very quickly. I watched this review a few weeks ago and pulled the trigger on Alaska....WOW!! I'm delighted I did. Alaska is a beast and it's a blast to play. I had to make some adjustments to my gameplay based on my USN LC style. Once I figured it out, it is hard not to play Alaska all the time. I want to grind the Cleveland then Seattle, as the Wooster is the goal. But after playing in the Alaska, why go back?!?
USN CA > CL period. Cleveland was a monster when it was at tier 6, now it's a shadow of what it was. Dallas and Helena also are underwhelming. But boy, Pepsicola, New Orleans and Baltimore are monsters. Try going down the CA branch, you'll be surprised how fun they are. Baltimore is a freaking OP pos, in tier 8 ranked I just dominated with it, and in Coop i regularly do 120-150k damage. HE is brutal against DDs and at long range against BBs and bow-in cruisers, AP is brutal against cruisers and BBs at close range, and when you press Def AA and reinforce the sector, you can really punish attack squadrons. You can't delete them, but you can shoot down 3-5 planes in one run

Yes! A fun forgiving ship to play, very powerful short to medium range. The one caveat I have is that at long range it is very challenging to hit smaller maneuverable ships due to her very slow floaty shells. If you do connect though.. they feel it!

Can definitely agree on the player improving part; I feel so much more aware and improved as a player since playing Alaska. I still need to learn how to get better at it though.

How about ditching Jack of all Trades and AR and getting RPF (radio location)? Radar plus hydro plus constant enemy location awareness-or DPM and consumable reload boost?
I am about to watch your 1st of many videos a friend of yours from WOW recommended I do so he said u were the best community creator he ever met . for I am an older beginner. if that makes sense with a poor memory none the less i hope to spend many hour listening writing down all the advise i can get starting with my Newley purchased Alaska B i keep getting hammered or beat up because i stay behind enemy lines to fire . I was always a BB guy but wanted to branch out.

Hm .. am I missing something ? You can use captains for your premium ships ACROSS the classes ? I play wows ... well, since beta and whole time, I thought that it works just like in WoT, where you can move your crew between different tanks (prem) without penalty, but only inside the same class .

I’ve started doing something new with my cruisers lately. I push up behind in island as deep as I can go in the mid then if there is a carrier I keep his attention cause you know better me then other people since I’m pretty trash
@Flamu when they make the armory changes, which would you recommend Moskva, Flint, or Black. I’ve seen videos on your price for steel opinions but which would you recommend getting first for coal?

I just grinded out the Moskva and i absolutely hate it but it's worth it just so you will get another tier 10 as the replacement and 2 for 1 is always a no brainer.. And the Alaska is way better than the Moskva.
Favorite ship in the game, best combination of a BB and a cruiser there is in the game. Good concealment, accuracy, speed, AA, decent HE for fighting BBs and radar from the cruisers, great armor and phenominal AP from the BBs.

Really glad I watched videos on the free XP ships. Alaska is one of the best Free XP ships imo. My biggest issue is deciding on ammos types. I use my Baltimore captain but I don’t have Expert Loader which seems to be something I should consider. But she’s such an insane ship in the right hands and still capable in the wrong hands too. I’ll have to find some optimal captain build but wanted to use her for training USN cruiser captains though I’m not sure if the build is the same?
Expert Loader is gold standard for any heavy cruiser captain. It's mandatory. Alaska is rather versatile as a captain trainer, you can use your typical Baltimore build with SI/DE but the best option is probably a tank build like Flamu's, especially given all the nonsense HE spam there is these days
Stefano Crosazzo I found that out rather quickly. I’ll need a specific captain for Alaska if I’m to really benefit from the good qualities of the ship. People tend to treat her like a BB and spam HE nonstop. And expert loader would be greatly appreciated.
How are your seas so clear and smooth? Mine do not look anything like that in game.
Can you do the Kronshtadt next? I struggle with that ship for some reason...

just a quick question. Does the guns of the PR have the same pen values as the guns of the alaska? AP seems to be lesser reliable when I play the PR instead of the alaska.
Even tho i'm not flamu, here the answer: Yes she does. She has the exact same guns as Alaska. What maybe makes you feel she don't is probably the fact that her dispersion is by far more trolly and the overall higher armor on T10 battleships.
@@xpaiinlezzz You don't have to be flamu :). I am happy about any kind of input. Yeah the dispersion indeed feel trolly. I asked the pen question because even on shots which do land pretty decent I get shatters (on not angled ships). It starts to get frustrated. Also shooting citas on broadside battleships at 8 km don't work as good as with the alaska. Maybe I just get trolled by the game. Thanks again for the input.

speaking of playing well, I had a standard random game where a T5 DD just sat behind island for 7+ minutes near the enemy base instead of helping to spot, hunt, kill. He then goes in to cap and gets killed, then blames our team for not helping him.
Thats like every match it seems, regardless of tier.
Videos like this are so helpful to me. I tend to race around too much and get myself in a jam. Seeing elite players being patient and holding position is a wonderful example. THX!

I love the Alaska Class battlecruiser best us Cruiser.
I cannot begin to describe how happy i am that the only Coal & Fxp ships i have are Jean Bart & Alaska, I would not trade them for anything :) Took me years to save up to them, but it finally paid off ^^
I call it Super Cruiser. Mostly because of the 305mm 12in/50 guns. Traditionally a Battle Cruiser has the same caliber of gun as a whatever current age Battleship just faster and less armor. 305mm is powerful for a battleship of the 19 teens not so in Alaska's age but certainly good for what all of the Super Cruisers were designed for, killing Heavy and Light cruisers.
I bought this ship and love it. I play it a lot so I probably was one of the bad players you saw lately lol. After a zillion matches, you can't stay focused. I would argue however that Puerto Rico with the US flag camo looks sexier. But yeah fantastic ship. As I'm building my captain, I'm starting to get hungry for PR. Thought this time that $185 was too much for a ship. Maybe next time tho.

You can only get this in Replays I think. It’s not possible during normal gameplay

She has a learning curve. I love how he points out how hard her citadel is to hit. I remember my first 10 or so matches with it was nothing but a slew of Dev Strikes before I just learned to hang back and be more passive with her.
I have Alaska and I received Alaska B plus personal mission in Black friday container. Our Lord RNGesus was kind to me that day.

@LoneStrider well, Smolensk is not a premium ship, and let's be honest, technically it is a nerf, but with thinner belt armour it will get more overpens. About Graf Zeppelin i have no idea, pretty sure they won't directly nerf it

Fortunately, they can't. Alaska has been sold for cash in the premium shop, and WG has a policy to not nerf ships that were sold that way.

I have Kidd, still a good ship to fight for caps and hunt other DDs, but the AA gimmick is pretty useless now. You can deal with T6 cv's, but T8/10 cv's shit on you.
