Part 2: Installation of the deadbolt
Quick video showing how to install a Defiant deadbolt. These sets are all pretty similar and would be the same for a Schlage handle set or a Kwikset entry door lever and deadbolt set.

Why is there an extra width on the key part of the deadbolt ? It is too wide to fit the hole in my door! 😮

So question - ours was installed by our landlord but when we go to lock it from the inside the dead won’t bolt fully (there’s room in the door too) but when we put the key it with the door open from the outside the entire bolt will come out but then we can’t get out key out - does anyone know what’s wrong with it? We are figuring they didn’t install it correctly. Help!

your land lord is an idiot and should have called a locksmith. Likely the strike plate is not aligned or the depth of the bolt hole in jammed or not deep enough

Are these reversable if the door opens from the right side when you face it from outside?

Yes. Just mount the thumb turn and keyed lock on the appropriate sides of the door.

I bought the same one my question to you is was yours a little stiff or harder then normal to turn and lock. I felt like it should be smoother to turn but for 9$ I guess that’s what I payed for

If the two screws holding the assembly together are overtightened, it can bind the locking bolt and make it difficult to operate. You'll notice in the video that a power-driver wasn't used for assembly. If you do use a power driver, use one with an adjustable clutch on very low torque.

the more you tighten the screws, the lock will bind and be harder to turn. Loosen the screws
