- Swoop up y’all!
This only applies to relatively newer Schlage lever handles, on the older designs you did have to order them handed correctly for your door. Standing outside the door if your hinges are on the left it’s a Left Hand door, if hinges are on the right hand side it’s a Right Hand door
Nice job, thanks! Schlage's instructions couldn't be less helpful in properly installing their product. Your video made all the difference!
YOUR THE MAN!!! I couldn’t figure this out via the instructions. You were straight to the point. I’m bowing!😉 Many thanks to you sir-
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! At 74 it’s good to know I can still follow directions.😊 Thank you too for mentioning the feature that keeps us from locking ourselves out. You’re my hero of the day!🎉
You’re doing a service that Schlage failed to deliver with their product. Your detailed explanation is much appreciated.
Your procedure worked perfectly to fix my upside-down flair handles. The part about when to rotate the key barrel at the right time during disassembly was vital. Much thanks !
Thanks for the very clear instructions on how to change over to this lever handle. My wife was having a hard time turning the knob for our outside door and we purchased a Schlage lever. I'm NOT a handyman kind of guy (unless you're installing/redoing sheetrock or painting walls) - mechanically, I'm just not there. This video made everything clear. I was in and out, done in 20 minutes. Thanks.
I have been looking at this lock for a month and knew something was wrong. Was worried i bought wrong handed lock till i saw your video! Thanks for the great explanation.
Thank you so much for such a great video! A year ago I had security screen doors put on and I bought matching Schlage hardware to match the rest of my house. A week ago I went to clean the screen and couldn’t open the lock with my key. I took it to Home Depot yesterday and they kindly replaced the hardware and rekeyed the lock but the person didn’t look or ask which way my screen door opened and apparently didn’t think the look at the old one I brought with me. I was going to take it back to have them fix it tomorrow but after watching your video, I will be able to fix it myself in the morning. Excellent set by step instructions for a novice like myself to be able to follow. Much appreciated! 😊
Lol, I am installing this door lock tomorrow. I was looking at it tonight and thought I had purchased the wrong door lock for my righthand pull door. Thanks for this nice, easy to understand video. You saved me some embarrassment.
Super video. Better than the official Schlage video. Gave me the confidence to tackle the installation of the lever door lock and handle reversing possibilities.
Thank you! I was worried when the inside lock would switch after opening that I broke it somehow. That is how my old doorknob was. Glad to learn it was a revision of the Schlage Lever Doorknob System.
Thanks for this video! I installed mine yesterday and thought they were upside-down; good to know that I don't need to switch the levers!
I just installed this lock, THEN watched your video. It was a great help in learning how to reverse the handles! My initial install just didn't seem right the way it came out of the box. Thanks for the help.
I'm sooooo glad I found this video. After watching this I've decided it's time to upgrade my 13 year old door lever and now I know how to take the old assembly off the door.
Never even considered this! I just got an FB50 set and I'll be installing it PROPERLY tonight. Thank you!
UPDATE: It went smooth as silk. I even installed a door reinforcement bar I found on amazon. It's very strong.
This video is exactly what I was looking for to install. Thank you very much!
Thank you for this video. My instructions from a different manufacturer discussed a sat screw that didn't seem to exist but when I got to the 'unlock your door' in your video, my handle then came off.
Super video. Much better than the official Schlage video. Could not have done it without you.
Thank you! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This was SO helpful to me when I was putting a lever lock (another name brand) on my door this week! Could not have done it without the help of this video! :)
That's very "Hand-y" to know.... bu dump bump chhhh.... Lol, very cool info, thanks as always Jason!!
You are so awesome! Thank you, thank you so very much for making this video. I had no idea that all you did was to pull out the handle shells and the insert key cylinder. I have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you I just bought and had an idea that somehow you switch it around, but thanks to your video it confirmed it!
Hi Jason.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video,
I did wonder about changing the handles, you did say a while ago that you were very" Frank " bad mood version about seeing handles the wrong way up.
Nice pokey stabby tool.
Thanks again for educating us. Good to see.im now Weiser than I was before.
SCHLAGE actually includes a little thing to remove the levers, and i tend to call it the "Lever Remover".
Thanks and good morning Jason. Yes, that squishy insulation can ruin a deadlatch install. Seen it many times.
TYSMM I have never installed a door handle before and the instructions were so weird for no reason!! This saved me the headache!!
Great video I just installed 3 correctly 😅because of this video. One thing to note is to make sure the key lock is in properly (all the way flush) before setting handle back in plate with little pin otherwise it will lock on incorrectly and will be a real pain to get off. Happened to me.
Thanks for the great video. Always need help for DIY projects.
thanks for posting how to flip the handle system around, much appreciated.
Thank you jason always informative and very use full knowledge
Leeeeeeeever! 'round here, you sound Canadian! (thanks for the content Jason!)
Thank you. Your video is better than Schlage's own.
Good general tips Jason. These can applied to similar hardware down under.✌🍺😎
Very nice, thanks for demonstrating this 😊
Thankyou, just changed my door handle by myself using this. No adult Sons required! 👍
Thank you so much for this excellent video!
Thanks Sir, I was looking for this info.
Excellent video! Thank yo so much!
You made this simple. Thank you.
Schlage taking away locksmith's money with that anit-lockout feature. :D
Great video, very informative!
Thanks sooooo much , lol got a right hand now 😀👍
Thumbs up, thanks a lot for the technical info ..
great job, now we know how to handle it!!
GKeyman565 lol
Great video! Thank you so much!
I love the comment on the impact. Totally agree.
Good demo...thanks!
Since I replaced the broken latch mechanisim I have to lift upward to open the door. It dont work pushing down on it. Thanks for the video.
yea this is an awesome video, thanks a million
This was awesome and I’m sure saves people a big headache doing it by the instructions. You rock!
Thank you so much for this video. !
Thank you! Those instructions were terrible, but this video was perfect to help me!
Thank you! This was a revelation
I am a 'Jack-of-NO Trades', and yet I was able to put my new front door lever handle on, with YOUR help!!! You covered every detail!! Thank you SO MUCH!!!!
I love you man ! Thank you 🙏😊
You gave me confidence with this video to try my front door lock too. Thank you!❤
Thank you for this.
Thank you very much for this video…
great video! thank you
great video! any idea why the round plate on the handle would just keep spinning?
Lol. I have like some french doors to my backyard and it wasn't until I got into locksport that I noticed my handle was installed upside down.
Hmmm, now I have to look at my handles when I get home. Thx
Thanks, very helpful
Great video. Just installed my set. Sadly both handles have so much freeplay. As in, the handle can move towards and away from door slightly enough to rattle and just seem cheap. Is that an adjustment? Thanks!
I'm working on replacing my 2 lever handled passage doors with egg knobs. After one year of use, lever came off in my hand, broken inside. I was afraid they wouldn't last under much use.
How do you install the internal screws of an outside looking door handle?
please help @selock! When I turn the key, the lever seems to just fall off very easy! It stays in okay without the key and just opening and closing, but when i unlock the door with the key, it can easy come off. I have a schlage encoder w/ levers. And it doesn't seem to have a loud of a click as the inside lever. Thougths? Thanks so much!
Thank you for making this video! I hesitated for 4 days to install my lever doorknob bc I knew the handles were upside down. I got on and switched! You saved me a $100 locksmith bill! 😊
Awesome, thank you
Please do a video on how to install the lever handle vertically instead of horizontal.
Perfect - that helped thanks
Very helpful
So know that I replaced it, I can’t turn the lock button. I don’t believe I moved anything. Any help?
Thanks for this video! I have flipped the handles on a half dozen interior doors, but I couldn't figure out how to get the exterior handle off - it was driving me nuts. I actually ended up figuring it out from the directions, but they are pretty poorly written and I would've probably saved myself a headache had I watched your video first. If you think about it, it makes sense that you can't get the lever off unless the door was unlocked first... Anyway - thanks for the clear explanation!
Thanks. Just had front door locks put on by locksmith on a double door and they put the right hand door which is keyless with the wave up and the left hand door with the key with the wave down.
Don't know why I didn't notice this at first, but now I can't look at the door without disgust. I'll try to fix this myself.
If they are all new you should be able to swap them around correctly :)
You didn't address insrling the interior twist to lock assembly. Mine came apart when reversing handles and I can't get it to work again
Thanks!
Thank you
Thank you for this video. Now I know that that is an anti-lock feature. Thought I made a mistake when I installed it or faulty product 🙂
good stuff!!
why is my door always locked when I remove the key
A year later but very helpful, thanks
Hey can you link this item. I really like the inside door when its locked it automatically opens when opening it from the inside. What is that feature called ?
all Schlage brands levers and knobs do this now :)
so I understand you're demonstrating installation and reversing the sides, which is exactly what I'm doing... but then when you flipped it, the handles were now upside down which was the original rant you had at the start.
i like them upside down...to each his own
Oh good, was looking for a video to fall asleep to.
Oh good I’ve been waiting for another dumbass to post a stupid comment
I have a question sir, my old door knob. When I have the tab locked from the inside position ( inside of the house ) you couldn’t turn the knob. With this one. When it’s in the locked position you can still then the handle and it’ll unlock itself instead of having to turning the slit before it can be unlocked. Is the reason its doing it because of the model version I got? Or it’s just how the model is?
That is how they have worked for about 12 years now in the Schlage original design. If your previous knob stayed rigid until turning then it was the Schlage J series (a less extensive alternative)
My inside part has the screw right and left not up and down. Is there something I need to adjust?
Old Schlage knobs were 3 o clock 9 o clock position but if it’s a (newer) Schlage branded lever it is most likely the “cheaper” brand of Schlage that uses that screw orientation.
So, did you mean to put the key lock on the inside of the door. The way the latch is facing, wouldn’t that be the inside? You’ve got The hand lock on the outside??
Just installed one of these and got everything ok except the locking tab will not turn? What did I do wrong???
Take key cylinder back out, turn key the other way and reinstall. So if you turned key up to get lever back on, turn it down instead
i have a schlage similar to this and i dont understand why the key is installed from the horizonal position.. i messed around trying to get it vertical but no luck. any ideas?
That’s just how Schlage’s are, you cannot change it
@@selock ok, thanks for your help
That is what I did wrong!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Procedure starts at 9:50
*Question:* Interior lever locks when the little turning lock is paralel to the ground. I want it to be like that when it is in *unlock* position actually and when I turn it to the left 90 degrees than I want it to go to lock position and you would not be able to get in from outside. Is there a way to change that? Thanks
Nope, no way to change that :)
@@selock thank you
I agree with you. That seems like the natural way it should be.
Hi, sorry, but why do you consider it upside down? is it aesthetic only? i wondered if it was for security purposes.?
No security issues, it’s just aesthetics. I don’t “consider” it upside down, it is upside down
thanks
How can I change the vertical position being unlocked to a tradition horizontal position being unlocked?
typically you cannot change how these operate
@@selock ok thx
Don't the pins on the cylinder supposed to be at the 12 o'clock position so any rain does not get on them?
there is no real rule or testing results on whether or not vertical or horizontal cylinders better deal with rain but there are a few different styles of keys that are oriented horizontally mainly overseas
In Baldwin lever installation it says the beveled side of latch should be facing the other way
The “beveled” side of the LATCH should always face the door. So it will close.
Not sure why you posted that but if you don’t face the beveled side of the latch towards the door (or frame) it literally won’t close without turning the handle.
This is a display mount not a door
@@selock i got it . I understand your explanation. I appreciate it
Thanks! Great explanation. Just reversed my levers. So easy.
