I served an year in the Italian Mountain Troops in 1987, MRE didn't change much from my times. Instead of energy bars we had a very good dark chocolate and condensed i milk. We also had cordiale wich was highly appreciated from the troop, it was very good and Made directly from the Istituto Farmaceutico Militare in Florence. The best year of my life.

The 40% alcoholic is supposed to be put in the coffee. In Italy we call the coffe with liquor a "Caffè corretto" that means litterally "corrected coffee". It gives it a really good flavour and a great energy charge.
