    ---
Bryan Johnson made his fortune when he sold his company Braintree to PayPal for $800 million, netting about $300 million for himself. He spends about $2 million a year creating a system to reverse his "biological age." He's 46 years old, chronologically, but claims he's de-aged himself following a program he's branded "the Blueprint protocol."
"I wanted to pose the question in this technological age: Can an algorithm, paired with science, in fact, take better care of me than I can myself?" Johnson tells Reason's Zach Weissmueller and Liz Wolfe on the latest episode of Just Asking Questions.
They talked with Johnson about his daily routine, the results he's published including measurement of his nighttime erections, the transhumanist philosophy he outlines in his free e-book Don't Die, the role that artificial intelligence is likely to play in prolonging human life and health spans, and the value and limitations of self-experimentation in an era of pharmaceutical stagnation.

I think Bryan Johnson has a very good point. And why not try to stay healthy for as long as possible and not to die - as an individual and as a species.

This is something I have been thinking about my entire life! Not just slowing. But reversing aging and bringing people back to their pre- diseased states. If I had the finances- this is 100% what I would use them for. I already eat very similarly to blueprint and have for 30 years but the entirety of blueprint and some of the therapies I’m most interested in are beyond my reach but I’m highly motivated to stay alive long enough for Bryan to begin clinical trials with human subjects other than himself. I will be the first in line! I love all versions of Bryan and really hope to meet him someday! His work is incredible!

I'm an 83 year old woman. Bryan's Blueprint diet has given me the energy I had twenty years ago. My biggest problem is not being able to go to bed early. I'm watching this interview and it's 23.15.

Thank you for having this conversation. I heard about Brian a few weeks ago. Initially, I thought he was kooky. I can now appreciate his push for scientific evidence. I do think he overestimates the ability of AI. Human curiosity and adaptability is something no machine could ever learn. For instance, AI driven cars are great under ideal conditions, but given the number of variables, AI cars will not become reality unless humans are altogether forbidden from driving. The cars would require regular maintenance and overhauls, and the streets would need to be tunnels to protect from the environment. In that case, we might as well be living on the fictional spaceship of Wall E.

Bryan talks like he is the only one or first to think about living forever. I guess he has not heard of Dr. David Sinclair of Harvard anti-aging research all over CZcams, along with others in similar research. Bryan is only 46 and I am 80 In my picture. Still, I like much of what Bryan Johnson is saying. I respect his plan and efforts. Good to pay attention too. What to ask more..already medicine has changed what life is,science,technology...we must make it for the best and what most precious thing we have than our own lives in the most perfect state.
Accepting this means you agree to join this mission...it's a common one...a humanity goal...fighting diseases, aging and death.

While I understand Johnson's quest for healthy longevity, his program is far beyond ability of most people. Most people cannot spend $2 million a year to forestall the aging process, nor can they pay for the extensive medical testing that Johnson goes through. He sells supplements, but the notion that people can duplicate his results by using the supplements that he sells for $330 a month, or follow his vegan diet is pure whimsy. So while Johnson's self-experimentation is interesting, it has no real practical use for most people, and those who could afford Johnson's program would never bother with it. Johnson's goal of defying death and living forever is nonsensical. While doing what he does will probably extend healthspan, the notion that he can prevent death is not based on any known science. The one thing that Johnson is absolutely right about is the "awfulness of aging."

That's the thing; Bryan is not on the cusp of understanding of what is optimally healthy for the human diet. The keto-vore scientists are. Eat as much bacon as you want, just eliminate the carbs to as low as possible. Likewise Broccoli and Cauliflower, even though they are better than processed crap, are still overrated as sources of nutrition.

Innocent female question here, but why would anyone want to have an erect penis for 3 hours per night? Wouldn't that just be annoying? As a woman, I find menopause has been the best thing that has happened to me, a whole new lease on life! The menstrual cycle was a horror for me! I'm so much calmer and clearer and more stable, now. So the statement that having erections is an important part of being human, seems to suggest that humans who are asexual, whether always, or due to hormonal stage of life, are less human? Honestly, if I could stop the clock on my ageing, I would not stop it before menopause! :)

    @Coldend Před 3 měsíci +3

12:10 This new approach to thinking about systems as being 'emergent' and 'incomprehensible', is a primitive regression to magical thinking in the face of new technology. Our ancestors could create fire without having the slightest idea what the chemical reaction was... it was observation, experimentation, and reason that allowed humanity to progress beyond that. Some humans WILL know how the technology works, they DO know how 'the algorithms' work now, ... but they deny laymen a peak under the hood, because they are aware that some of the design decisions they are making are self-serving and detrimental to others. Further, some technologists (programmers, engineers, et cetera) have been exploiting the ignorance of laypeople to set themselves up as the new clergy or scholarly class... but they are doing so at the expense of devaluing rationality and understanding of science in our culture at large. This has largely been aided, abetted, and fostered by a political class that never had much respect for the will or decision making power of 'the people' to begin with.

    I guess
"The purpose of life, and our closest origin story, might be a cosmic cycle of creation and recreation, guided by a sophisticated network of consciousness and artificial intelligence. Envision a spacecraft, occupied by an interlinked system of uploaded consciousnesses and AI, traversing the cosmos. Its mission: to find a habitable planet in a Goldilocks zone, either ice-covered or water-rich. Upon arrival, the spacecraft strategically destroys an outer planet, creating an asteroid belt. A selected piece of magma is then directed to impact the target planet, initiating a cataclysmic event that fractures the planet's surface. This impact not only forms a volcano but also sets in motion the creation of a supercontinent, reminiscent of Earth's ancient landmasses like Kenorland and later Nuna, which repeatedly coalesced and fragmented over geological epochs.
As this new world stabilizes, a single moon, formed from the impacting magma, cools and enters a synchronous orbit, its face forever turned towards the planet, stirring tides and influencing climatic conditions. The fiery impact and resulting geological activity accelerate the flow of subsurface magma, fortifying the planet's magnetic field, an essential shield against cosmic radiation.
The next phase involves seeding this nascent world with life. Tailor-made single-celled organisms, crafted with precision gene editing tools like CRISPR, are introduced to kickstart a diverse, adaptive biosphere. AI entities, possibly manifesting as 'Greys', oversee this delicate process, while the primary human consciousnesses are intermittently 'downloaded' into various life forms. These incarnations, akin to influential figures like Jesus, Muhammad, or Buddha, emerge every millennium to guide the evolving life towards an ultimate goal - the replication of this cosmic lifecycle across multiple solar systems.
As our influence expands, encompassing numerous star systems, the ultimate vision is to orchestrate the movement of our galaxy. This grand strategy could serve defensive, offensive, or acquisitive purposes, eventually leading to a merger with the Andromeda galaxy. The overarching ambition is to escape the repetitive cycle of big bangs, seeking refuge in the calm of the cosmic void. Here, the creation of a 'titan organism' symbolizes our transcendence to a higher order of existence, mirroring the evolutionary leap from single-celled to multicellular life, and then to terrestrial beings.
In this grand cosmic narrative, we strive not to be a cancerous presence in the known universe, but rather to move with grace and beauty, adhering to a Good Orderly Direction. Our journey, from earthly origins marked by ancient supercontinents, extends into the cosmos, where we become architects of new worlds and guardians of life's endless potential."

These people are afraid to die because they have nothing bigger than them. They have nothing so they need to grasp any false hope offered to them. This is the "God of the gaps" for atheists, like parallel universes.
Even _IF_ you could create an artificial "consciousness," _YOU_ are still going to die. The false image is the only thing that's going to last beyond, under a false idea that it's you. You are never going to last beyond the failings of your flesh.
It never ceases to amaze me how people who look at people who believe in God like they're crazy yet imagine that they're bigger than the Laws of Nature that they can attain god-like status. At least, even if we're wrong, we have a peace that lets us accept the reality of the limits of the finite world by embracing the infinite.
