And still the absolute class and composure he shows, all smiles, even explaining to his opponent why he is late to the serve line. Could’ve easily been otherwise, and would be justified too; adjusting to fresh tension can be very tricky, specially during a match against one of the toughest young players on the tour, but no.
Of course no one is surprised, that’s who Rafa Nadal is.

@@MarkTomeh He has some obsessive tendencies, pair that with the tennis aspect of routines to mentally recenter oneselves, it came out as full blown OCD, but he doesn't actually have OCD.
Having routines is extremely beneficial in a sport like tennis where everything is reset after each points, it allows you to stop frustrating losing the previous point or prevent you from being overhyped by winning the previous point, you fall back to your routine, you recenter and refocus yourself, you think about what will you do for the next point, shred the anxiety that the break point you are facing is extremely crucial, and then you play the point.
This is why Djokovic bounce the balls so damn much before serving, why Sharapova always stare and fiddle at her strings after every point, why Roddick fixes his shirt shoulder and cap after every point, and also why Nadal was meticulous with his water bottle, holding a racket when entering the court even at wimbledon final, and all his strict fiddling routine between every points.
You can't see it, but losing the racket he is playing with must have been pretty stressful for Rafa.
The way he says “yeah yeah yah I’m going” his arm up 😂. Love this man

Just LOVE Rafa!!! This clip is just a classic. The brilliant way he handles what is actually an intensely stress inducing moment in discovering his racket- that he relies on, that he knew exactly how tightly had been strung/ was playing at that exact point in the match had been removed- is amazing. Just pure class in every sense- talent, style, personality, attitude just A class love. ❤️ 👌

The fact that he could just laugh it out speaks a lot about Nadal's character, here. This guy is very particular about his setup (even down to the direction his water bottles point), but he was able to let it go pretty quickly.

I remember reading that Uncle Toni used to make him practice with old racquets sometimes & not always on the best courts so he didn't let anything external disturb him. Thats obviously paid off.

I’m pretty sure they took it thinning Nadal wanted it restrung, but I’m not sure. I know that this would throw Nadal off a lot though because he uses far fewer rackets than most pros. A lot of pros cycle through multiple rackets in one match whereas Nadal uses maybe 7-8 total rackets in a year (also helps that he doesn’t smash any).

@@SJ-di5zu Nadal definitely uses more racket than that... he is probably provided fresh rackets for each tournaments. He also has several in his bags each match for backups, but several strung with different tensions for specific situation. He probably asked ballboys to have one restrung but the ballboy took the wrong racket.

Nadal is probably my fav sportsman ever, not just in tennis. He is definitely also a role model like someone else is saying. His fighting spirit even when it seems over , and his calmness are just two of his best features

LOL! I remember years back, (cant remember which tournament) the stringer strung all his rackets at the wrong tension. Rafa knew after he hit the first few shots during warm up. Someone from his team had to get one of his used rackets to start the match and the rest of his rackets had to be restrung immediately.

How many racquets would he use in a game? (I’m new to tennis)
I think it depends on the player, but most likely its around 5-6 racquets. Each racquet can have a different tension/strings/grips dependent on what the player likes.

Nadal probably put the racquet he just played with behind his bag and asked a ballboy to take it to the stringer. He also put a fresh one on his bench to use next, but the ballboy mistook the one he put on the bench for the one that needed to be strung. An honest mistake to make when all the racquets look the same and one is kind of hidden behind his bag :D

As a ballperson at the us open, I could tell you we’d never let that happen there! The problem with the other majors is they have only 14-16 year olds vs us which has 14 up so we have more experienced ppl who can lead the crew
