      @@daytonasunset … per U-Pol’s technical data sheet:
      What can RAPTOR be tinted with?
      A. For best results, use solvent based acrylic basecoat toners (ask your paint supplier to leave out the binders). NOTE: Acrylic basecoat toners tend to have high color strength so use sparingly (less than 10% tint by volume). RAPTOR is compatible with any urethane based color, including 2K acrylic solid color and mixed acrylic basecoats, and can be added up to 10% by volume. RAPTOR cannot be used with water based, polyester, or enamel paints.

    Thanks for the video. I like how you're saving your caps to verify color-correctness from bottle to bottle. Had not thought of that. Also, I liked your idea of pouring an amount out BEFORE putting the the spray nozzle in.

    Is there any downfall in tinting with paint that has the “binders” in it,
    aside from color matching being off? I’m wondering if the binders weaken or have a negative effect on the hardener in the UPOL

    • @NickOsterbaan
      @NickOsterbaan  Před 5 lety +4

      You do not want to do that, with binders will not mix correctly with Raptor and you will have uneven coloring as you spray. Do NOT use regular paint! Tint can be purchased from your local auto paint supplier and make sure you specify that it cannot have binders or fillers!

    • @NickOsterbaan
      @NickOsterbaan  Před 5 lety

      I started pulling my two after about 1 1/2 hours. You can tell when it's ready to be pulled because the Raptor won't be lifted when pulled so go very slow at first and if it lifts at all stop and wait another 30 minutes. It really will take common sense at that point but your temperature and humidity will play in effect in time of drying so use common sense and start somewhere that is out of they way and not directly noticable if the raptor peels stop and wait. It won't peel off it will just stretch with the material on the tape so it won't ruin anything.

    Once you apply the raptor tint, do you need to hit it with a clear coat finish?

    • @NickOsterbaan

      No, but if you want a little more shine to your raptor you can add clear coat to the raptor on your final coat.

    • @Farmor4x4
      @Farmor4x4 Před 3 lety

      I do not think it is convenient to add transparent after the final finish, because that layer would scratch easily and the paint would look ugly. that is, it would take away resistance and hardness, because that transparent layer would be scratched, and the raptor layer would not scratch.

    How much of the tint do you specifically have to mix with 100ml ?

    • @NickOsterbaan
      @NickOsterbaan  Před 4 lety +3

      I covered that in the video. A bottle of raptor is 1000ml you can add up to 10% of tint which is 100ml maximum.
      I found that 8% was right for my color and application. You want to start at 4% and increase the tint as you test the color until you like it.

    What kind of paint do you use or does the upol provide the colors I know they sell a red kit

    • @NickOsterbaan
      @NickOsterbaan  Před 4 lety +3

      When using the Raptor tintable kit you need to go to your local auto paint supply store and get "tint without binders" it's very important not to use the term paint because paint is a finished product. You want to use tint which is just the colorant with no added chemicals that make it "paint".
      All the information can be found on the raptor liner website.

    • @NickOsterbaan
      @NickOsterbaan  Před 5 lety +1

      @@BellyUpFishGarage mine was actually darker then I had anticipated so I do recommend mixing a single bottle to get your color right and spraying it on a test surface and let it completely dry. You waste a bottle but once it's dried you know for sure if it's to dark or to light and you can adjust more or less color then for you your final product.
      I wasted 2 bottles once getting color right and I'm glad i did because the minor cost was totally worth knowing what it would come out looking like exactly.
      Also with my color I used the Raptor lightened up as it cured over 4 days so if it looks to dark but close let that test spray fully cure for a few days and then see if the color is right
