  • How to Prep, Mix & Spray Color Matched Raptor Liner ( Raptor Liner Undercarriage ) In this video I'm going to show you how to prepare, mix in color and spray tinted raptor liner on an undercarrage. The Raptor Liner is a 2 part bedliner system meaning the bedliner needs to be mixed with a hardener for it to dry properly. I tinted this car using Ford TK (Mineral Grey) paint. That is the same color as the outside of the car. I would suggest checking the color match of the paint that you are using to tint the Raptor Liner with. The paint job on this undercarriage came out a little darker than anticipated but still looks exceptional.

Great informative video content! I have a ‘05 F-350 SRW, my daily driver in Pittsburgh Pa.
My bed rails rusted so I bought a kit from Dorman to weld on. After seeing the state of my frame (surface rust) I decided to clean it off. I had it undercoated two years ago. So, cleaning the frame, cab & bed wasn’t too bad. I will have it undercoated annually from here on every early fall. I’m using POR-15 for the axles, driveshaft, leaf springs & coils. And priming & painting the underside of the bed & rails.
Your video (as all of them) is very helpful & detailed. I have learned so much about undercoating & other stuff.
Thanks so much for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing your next video!

I'm planning on doing something similar to my truck once I get my home and shop built. Clean and paint the frame. I want to also "close" all the big holes in the frame so that mud and grim doesn't get inside the frame and rust it from inside out. Need to leave some small drain holes so that any water can drain out though. Another thing you could do is buy an empty paint can and pour all the Raptor liner in it and take that to the store along with part, to get mixed up. Stand those bottles upside down for a few days to help the parts that settled to the bottom, get mixed up better too. They also might be able to shake those bottles too before hand if you ask. Nice job.

Just sprayed raptor last week and it’s great to work with. I used the “professional” gun and it took about 10 seconds to dial in perfect. Two coats liner over two coats of their epoxy primer on bare steel off-road bumper prepped with grinder/sander and tons of panel prep wipe down. Hoping it lasts a while.
Think I was at around 45 psi with two turns out from closed, nice soft texture. A water/oil separator is good idea it sucked a lot of moisture out the lines.

@@Ben-xo3bj Raptor sells a nicer version of their gun basically its just got an adjustable tip to change spray pattern/volume etc. i dont think you could get it to work right from a regular gun, it isnt really supposed to be thinned much if at all it would clog right away in most hvlp, plus you gotta hose it on pretty heavy for the good results.

Well, for starters I wanted a clean chassis on this car not one that was oily. Like you deduced the environment that this car is exposed to is not nearly as harsh as one of my vehicles driven every day. I also had a bunch of people that wanted me to explore a traditional paint type option for vehicles that they were looking to restore or trailers, fence posts to paint, etc. The main issue with paint is it will all eventually chip crack flake and peel. Lanolin undercoat will do none of those things and requires no prep or masking.

Love your videos, thanks very much for all the work you put in!
Would you recommend using Raptor Liner to paint the insides of the wheel wells on my Ford E350? As far as I can tell there are no OEM or aftermarket options available for plastic wheel well liners, so I'm looking for the next best alternative. My main concern is preventing rust on this vehicle, but I've read that Fluid Film and the like gets worn away pretty quickly in the wheel wells from all the debris that is flung up by the tires.
After watching this video, I am wondering if the bridge primer + raptor liner in the wheel wells might be a good option.
    Thank you in advance!

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  Před 2 lety +3

The easiest option is cosmoline the wheel wells. Do multiple coats. Or some sort of heavy grease. Woolwax as well as NHOU makes some. You will have to touch this option up from time to time. But there is no masking, no prep work and no real procedure other than spray or brush it on. You will want to treat the inside of the wheel well as well with any lanolin product. Don't use the cosmoline on any internal surface of the vehicle. czcams.com/video/WZr4qoKGfXs/video.html
My biggest concern with the Mastercoat primer + Raptor Liner option would be rock chips. The options stated above won't chip, crack, flake, or peel. I did what I did on this car because this car is only driven maybe 3,000 miles a year tops and only in the summer. It never sees any sort of harsh environment like the cars I drive every day. Since this car is only really driven when the weather is good paint will hold up. Paint is too much work for a vehicle that you drive every day.

      1) I sprayed my raptor when my primer was still tacky. That let the solvents in the primer and the raptor mix a little giving a great bond. I'd contact Raptor and see what exactly they recommend for your situation.
      2) The nozzle was set halfway out. With this standard gun raptor gun that I used that tip position doesn't change much. They have a "pro" version that has more adjustably.
      3) The gun has a vent hole in it to let air back into the bottle. You can put that gun in about any position as long as the product isn't leaking out of the vent, and the suction straw in the bottle is submerged it will spray.

Your colour tint is off because the Raptor Liner is a cream colour so tints the paint tint away from a match, it can only ever get you somewhere close.. any closer is a trial by error re tinting and testing to get the finish closer.

Nice idea but Raptor actually makes a undercoating and they don't suggest you use regular raptor for undercoating. This is a big risk to take, you could be setting your self up for even worse rust issues.

@@RepairGeek that's the primer and on a bridge that never moves. Also find a bridge that has been painted with it and doesn't need touch up maintenance in over 20 yrs. Once a chip forms and moisture gets in, eather the liner will peel or can make rust advance. We shall see over time. Follow up videos would be great every year for 20yrs lol.

@@jr303official yeah bridges flex 😆. You're correct about chips but, Raptor's undercoat is going to chip as well. So I'm not sure how you see Raptor's undercoating as an advantage. This car doesn't see rain let alone winter. This won't be a problem on this car.
Feel free to Google the Pittsburgh Homestead High Level Bridge. After 14 years no touch up shows less than 5% corrosion using this primer. 14 years of road salt, rain, UV... less than 5%...

@@RepairGeek I hope you make follow up videos and I hope the very best. I wanted to use it as undercoating but U-pol told me not to use it as undercoating.

Raptor will flex. I've used it on plastic fender flares and I think I have a video of how much it will flex. If the bottom of your car flexes as much as a flare, then you've wrapped it around a tree.

i did this and i regret it so much, the raptor liner cracks at all the body seams that flex and lets water in and rust starts then it all needs to be removed, not an easy or fun job

Just don’t put your finger over the tip end like a spray gun, don’t ask me how I know 😆

My word.. Are you demonstrating spraying a 2K product with only a dust mask? PLEASE everyone watching this, you don't need a full face positive pressure unit, but please use an appropriate organic vapor cartridge on a mask. These are cheap and are saving your lungs and brain cells.

I don't disagree but, I do know that it's normal to have to tint paint to match a specific vehicle. Just because you tell a paint shop you need Ford: TK that doesn't guarantee an exact match to the vehicle you're dealing with.
