      @@MyJeepStory Ive painted 3 different entire 4 wheel drives with bedliner but i always used the rattle cans. The first vehicle was a 89 bronco 2 and i used the rustoleum bed liner in the rattle cans that sprays out like water and runs which looks like shit but believe it or not the rattle can bedliner Krylon makes delivered a finish close to the quality of the raptor liner you sprayed...... I painted a 88 jeep comanche with the krylon and it looked good but i probably used 30+ cans at 10$ a pop plus it took hours upon hours lol I figured id try it your way next time and save some time.

    • @MyJeepStory
      @MyJeepStory  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah in the end, it makes a ton of sense to use Raptor. For one, it’s a two part paint as I’m sure you know and it becomes ten times more durable than anything out of a rattle can. It sounds like you’ve put a ton of effort into your rigs and you’ll get a lot more out of your work using something like Raptor in terms of finish, but also durability. 🤙 Keep up the great work and let me know how the next project goes!

      @heavymetalredneck7973 Před 3 lety +1

      @@MyJeepStory to be honest i buy fix and flip vehicles and I started using the bedliner because it covers up quick body work fixes (bondo fixes to be exact) pretty good but i started to like the rugged look so if i was fixing up a 4×4 i just started painting the entire vehicle with the liner. After seeing how good they can turn out if you get the paint sanded down good enough i decided to do my own 4wd with liner. My son saw how good the comanche turned out he started bugging me to paint his truck with it lol I tried the rustoleum roll on bedliner today and got as far as the hood before i quit and started looking for quality spray on liner.......Then i came across your video and I was convinced that Raptor is the way to go! I think im going to use black on his and maybe the grey or silver on mine. Thanks again for the video....Plus i watched your "5 mistakes you made video" and learned alot from it as well.

      One more comment and ill try to keep it short as its more of a question. How many of the quart or litre size cans did you use on your jeep? My blazer is a 2 door and the back half is mostly glass so im wondering if the kit with 8 cans will be enough?

      I'm sorry for the delay in response! I've just finished my second move and have finally settled in and have the time to answer some comments. I spent so much time making this video from filming to editing and I can say that it's always worth it when I get comments like these.
      The Raptor has held up really well and it has been applied on the Jeep for over two years with no issues aside from some peeling on the chrome door trim where the lettering is clearly because I didn't sand in them. Otherwise, I have taken the Jeep down tight trails with branches scraping them and there have been no instances of chipping or peeling anywhere and where I applied it to the lower part of the rocker panels, the salt has had no effect on it! There has been no fading or anything like that either.
      I also want to mention that on February 20th, I'll have an upload premiering where I Raptor an entire Gladiator JT, so that should also give you some additional tips and a look at another project I did. I'm excited to see what you think of that and in the meantime, please let me know if there's any other questions I may answer in preparation for your project! Good luck and let me know how it goes!

    You have definitely broadened my horizons here sir! I just purchased an 06 Tundra double cab and have been considering different paint options only knowing very minimal about Raptor products. This hands down seems like the most economical option and could definitely turn out looking great if done systematically as you have shown, but my main questions would be:
    -Can you obtain a semi-gloss sheen and will it keep its sheen over time?
    -Can you thin it out some with thinner?
    -How difficult is to keep clean?
    -And ultimately how long and well will it hold up!
    Very well done informative DIY video! Thank you kindly to you and your parents!

      I'm here to help and I'm glad you found value in watching my videos! Raptor is a great option in many regards from pricing to the level of forgiveness it offers to inexperienced sprayers. I'll be releasing another Raptor video in the coming weeks where I line a brand new Gladiator JT and in that video, I answer a lot of commonly asked questions that I missed in this video. That being said, feel free to ask away here in the meantime and I'll answer everything that I can!
      1: Different levels of gloss can be achieved with different textures. While it won't literally be glossy, the way it reflects light causes a sparkle in a way depending on the texture. You can achieve different textures by adjusting the PSI, distance, and most importantly, by using the professional Vari-Nozzle gun. I'd take a look at what's out there and see what settings others have used to get the finish you're looking for. You can also add a clear on top of Raptor, but that's often said to defeat the purpose. Raptor is 100% UV stable and will not fade either.
      2: You can absolutely thin Raptor and you must do so if you plan on shooting it with an HVLP gun as advised by U-POL themselves. I can't recall the compatible thinner at the moment, but I know it's mentioned on their MSDS available on the Raptor site.
      3: Cleaning is beyond simple and the paint can be power washed and look like new again! I personally use a foam gun and a wash & wax from Adams Polishes on my finish.
      4: Naturally Raptor will last plenty longer than standard finishes. This is because not only is it a two-part paint, but it's MUCH thicker than standard paints. Durability is usually a function of the thickness of the paint (assuming proper adhesion) and Raptor takes the cake! Apply two coats followed by a drop coat (covered in my next video) and you'll be good to go for YEARS. Repairs are so easy with minimal blending needed as well, but remember, prep is key!
      I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need anything else.

    Looks good, next time I would do the body work under the initial scuffing and have any repairs underneath that epoxy primer. Typically epoxy primer is a sealer and that's gonna be your last coat before your color coat or in this case the raptor liner. It also doesn't usually sand well. But overall good job!

    • @MyJeepStory
      @MyJeepStory  Před 2 lety +1

      I often times see these steps flipped one way or another, but I think in the future I'd er the side of doing the body work under the primer. You'll see this is quite the debate online, but I would again advise doing the method you mentioned looking back. Thanks for the tip and taking the time to comment!

    Very interesting. I too also have a WK1 Grand Cherokee, mine is the street version SRT8. My paint is just to the point now where I'm considering what to do freshen up this now 13 year vehicle. I bought this new off the lot and it's been the best, most tough, most powerful vehicle I've ever owned and because of this, the longest I've ever kept a daily driver... And after 13 years, it still amazes me how great a vehicle this one has been... But a fresh paint job can cost up to $10K and I don't think that's wise to dump that kind of money into an older , yet still cool, vehicle... Anyway, I know this is the wrong type of look for a "street" truck, but you got me scratching my head thinking "hmm but what if???" Well done video.

    • @MyJeepStory
      @MyJeepStory  Před 3 lety

      Sorry for the delay and thank you for the kind words! As for the epoxy primer, it's only available in a gallon, so I'd just purchase that for $150 and that way, you'll ensure you have enough. I went through about half of a gallon doing two coats on the entire Jeep as well as everything else that I primed. For a compressor, a 6 HP compressor that generates 150 PSI line pressure should provide sufficient air supply, but is dependent on the application equipment/gun. I'm using a 30 gallon from Industrial Air and I've never had any issues! I hope this information helps, please let me know if there's anything else that I may do!

      @MyJeepStory  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much for watching and just so you know, I will have another video out within two weeks covering the process again, but painting a brand new Jeep Gladiator! The hours depends and it will ultimately come down to how perfect of a finish you're looking for. For reference, you can easily get this done without stripping the vehicle during a weekend, but for a full strip of parts, I plan on three weeks. It doesn't need three weeks, but setting aside that time allows for a mistake here and there with time to recover and fix anything that may go wrong. Plus when you remove and paint parts, you want to wait between 48 hours and a week to reinstall the parts as well and the little things really add up. It's tough to give you an estimate of the time it took for this Jeep since the filming took a big chunk of it. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Why did you choose the fancy gun? Compressor cfm? Why did you use the red stuff pads for plastic rather then the wire wheel used on the fender- scratches too deep? Anything on tooling that would have worked well enough? (Big difference in spraying with your gun? Lower output of compressor would have worked? Bondo?)
    Thanks, liked the video

    • @MyJeepStory
      @MyJeepStory  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I apologize for the delay in response, but I'm happy to answer your questions. To begin, I have an upload scheduled for February 20th where I Raptor an entire Jeep Gladiator JT and I answer a lot of questions that I got from this video such as the compressor I use, the cost, etc.
      I chose the Vari-Nozzle gun due to the fact that you can control and achieve a desired texture in ways that the standard Schutz cannot. Where you can control the PSI and distance only with the standard gun, you can also control the texture of Raptor by adjusting the tip of the Vari-Nozzle gun.
      The compressor I use is a 30 gallon Industrial Air p/n ILA1883054 which delivers 5.7 CFM @ 90 PSI. A 6 HP compressor that generates 150 PSI line pressure should provide sufficient air supply, but is dependent on the application equipment / gun (Shultz type or gravity feed HVLP) used to apply the Raptor.
      The wire wheel was just used at certain times to help remove old adhesive that I had on the Jeep. I would stay away from that when possible to avoid scratches that are a little too deep and stick to a sandpaper around 80-120 grit for best adhesion. Definitely stay away from these low grits when applying Raptor with an HVLP gun as that requires a thinner and has a higher tendency of showing scratches beneath it.
      In my next video, I use an Eastwood SCT to prepare the entire surface, but be careful with power tools when sanding because if you DON'T plan on using the epoxy primer first, sanding to bare metal is not a great idea as Raptor does not adhere to bare metal or rust very well without a primer.
      Let me know if there's any other questions that you may have and I'll get right back to you!
