You have no idea how popular is the songs from your country in the coast of Colombia, they love it, I like really Mbilia bel and lokassa ya mbongo

Actually my favorite Language in DRC is Swahili and that's because I speak Swahili; Also Lingala is my second favorite although I don't speak it, but when I listen to people who speak Lingala, It gives me the hunger to learn it because it sounds good. I am from the Eastern of DR.Congo, but I live in USA now. Shout out to #CongoTalks243
Amazing! I love Swahili too! I’m learning it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙌🏾🙌🏾

I'm African-American. Channels like yours really help me learn about my heritage. I speak English, Japanese, and some Spanish. I'm glad I watched your video because I thought learning French or Swahili would be the most beneficial language to learn for when I go to Zambia and Congo DRC. I love the way Kikongo sounds though. I'd love to learn them all, but I have to be realistic. I didn't know Lingala was sung in most Congolese music. This video had many gems.
Ok so which language did you think Congolese sing in their songs
You gonna be good in Zambia they speak English 🙏🏾 have a good trip
Kiswahili is the good choice spoken in more than 14 countries easy and simple to understand a non-colonial language
I my opinion, it would have also helped for the Congolese government to have officiated the English language as well...
That's a good idea. But only the younger generation of the Congolese people could speak and understand the English language.
(I hope that my comment isn't offensive to you)
For a foreigner swahili is a much easier option, because lingala is a tonal language, but tons are not marked in the script, whereas swahili does not have tones due to its arabic influence.
No true lingala is easier to understand and its doen t belong to a major tribe it s why its for everybody
guys as a congolese born and raise in the country am telling you to learn french too. cause if your going to study or live in there french will help you too especially in the capital that where you hear alot of french every where is french french french

I am learning Kikongo, partly because I am interested in the use of Kikongo words in the languages of the African diaspora (e.g. Brazilian Portuguese, Cuban Spanish, Haitian Creole, Gullah in the United States, etc.). One thing that I have noticed is that the four national languages of the DRC are all from the Bantu language family, and therefore have some similarities. (I can recognize Lingala and Swahili words that are similar to Kikongo.) I imagine that if someone learns one of these languages and then decides to learn another, the learning curve will be much easier because of the similarities.
Yes, indeed they all are Bantu languages with similarities. 😊
My people got sent to South Carolina and Georgia from Congo or Angola during the Maafa so I know we are related somehow most Black people in those states are part Bantu.

I like your map that shows the regions of congo where the languages are spoken. I wonder if there is a map that shows how far kikongo spreads into Angola and French congo. Same with lingala, I suppose the spread of Swahili, which might have the largest spread over Eastern Africa. Anyways, thanks for the info, I appreciate your efforts on this channel. Sister when you remove dialects from your 400 list you will have around 10 languages in DRC. A dialect is just an accent . Scottish speaking is no a new english it is an accent just like yaka, yombe are kiKongo dialects in drc. I am from Congo Brazzaville where we have only 4 languages that includes many dialects. Lari(yaka),Bembe,Vili or loangu(yombe),kituba are among kiKongo dialects in Congo Brazzaville. From bandundu to matadi people speak only one language which is kiKongo but they speak it with many different accents.God bless both United Congo.
Agreed. Wonder why people still believe it's 400+ languages and not ascents and minor dialect difference.
Correct. I think u Kongos came from Kasai area originally especially as they all sound the same.
Actually, they are languages. Calling them dialects is just a way of Eurocentric scholars trying to downplay the many languages Africans have. Why are they not calling Catalan a dialect. They call it a language, while it is way too similar to Spanish.
Why would you make a European language your official language?
For the same reason that you are speaking English :)

Hello. I'm from Korea and I'm interested in linguistic landscape of the world in general. And my knowledge was that the elites of DRC speak French and also there are four Congolese languages that are officially recognized and promoted on the national level. And I heard that people speak a mixture of Lingala and French in Kinshasa. Also there is a famous family here who are originally of Congolese descent. The middle child named Jonathan runs a rather popular youtube channel(all of his videos are in Korean.) He speaks some French but he is not good at English. Which is why I was surprised to see this video which is in English and not French, or any other Congolese languages for that matter. I'm very curious as to know how does CongoTalk243 speak flawless English as if it's her native language. So my question is - Is it common for people in DRC to speak English as fluently as the girl in the video does? I wonder anyone would read this long ass comment but if you did and know the answer please let me know! 😊
Hello, most Congolese who are born in DRC, especially in Kinshasa (which is the capital) speak a mixture of Lingala and French on a daily basis. Some of them speak one of the 4 national languages depending on the region they're coming from. In eastern DRC, people mainly speak a mixture of Swahili and English. Those who speak English fluently were mostly either born in DRC and then moved to a foreign country or were born abroad.
To sum up, the majority of Congolese speak French rather than English because we were colonized by Belgium (which is a French speaking country)
Hope this helps :)

That can be said for almost any land where people moved around. It’s good to know old languages but many die out, change etc. even in America 🇺🇸 the natives had multiple waves of people come from Eurasia and the pacific and a later wave that wiped people out. Even natives themselves moved around. This is not to say colonists didn’t do a huge number on making that transition much faster as the natives died en masse so quickly from disease 🦠 and war. But even Africa the languages shifted too with and without colonizers. Just a thought

THE TRUTH IS: Most Congolese are ashamed to Say "I don't speak French" than just pretending, because it's the Official Academic language even today. Sad.
This is the case with the whole continent of Africa, we still use colonial languages for academics. This is an interesting but completely different topic tho.
Would like to learn Lingala. But can one learn Lingala without French? Because there are lots of French words mixed. Even the Congolese Swahili is mixed with French and other Bantu languages, and some words are interchanged.
That's a good question and you've got a point. I'd say yes it's possible to learn Lingala without French. You'll just have to ask whoever you're speaking with to repeat what they say without the French. Usually, it's not even that much French included, just 1 or two French words per Lingala sentence.
