Thanks for taking the time to film these videos for us Ezra, it's annoying enough having to go back and forth getting tools doing a job without moving a camera around while you do it, then it's still gotta be edited and uploaded, your efforts really are appreciated.
I can’t imagine having to do all that extra work ... I sure hope your monetized ! I have no idea because I have CZcams premium so I never know if a channel is monetized because I don’t see the ads anyway
Have you considered also uploading to Floatplane? I subscribe to a few content creators on floatplane. I enjoy watching videos ad free and still support the creators financially. Your channel is one that I would definitely spend a few bucks a month on.
I don't know a whole lot about the Big Cam 350's and 400's. My grandfather loved them. He had a small fleet of trucks all were Cummins powered. He shook his head when I bought a W900L with a Cat. 🤷♂️😂
@@derekchauvinisahero2010 ha! back when i had mine-and my dad would let me use his garage to work on it-he would make me pull it outside before i started it. he claimed that smoke was in the rafters for a week till it left no smell. had the pump set at 20 percent above specs-guessing that's why it smoked so bad till it got warmed up.
I can still remember the first time I was old enough to ride with my uncle for the summer. 1985, I spent the entire school vacation with him, 78 359 with the KTTA, and a Double Eagle 96" sleeper. He was with Ligon before Landstar bought them out. The sound of that Cummins screaming through 6" pipes was never forgotten. My grandpa ran an 84 359 with the BC 400 up until he passed away in 88. Loved both those trucks and engines and I ended up becoming a lifelong Detroit fanatic, 😂. I have owned a 3406E powered classic, a 389 with deleted ISX 600, and they were both powerhouses, but I still run the little mean green 12.7 Detroit machine today, my gliders all have a Detroit. But I wouldn't give to find a 359 with a KTTA and recreate my uncles rig.
2nd up of coffee and a great video I didn't get time to watch that's a way to relax while the sun comes up you are a true craftsman and we must be related because Bob's your uncle is a good one my kids always say they dont have an uncle Bob stay safe great video
Lookin good Sounding like it could pull the Titanic off the bottom of the ocean ! Dang Ez you got this thing full on Awesome! Love it !! Cheers from Sydney Australia yet again . 🇦🇺🦘🐨🇦🇺 🇺🇸
This is one nice Peterbilt! I'd be taking it to the drive-in on Friday night and parking it next to the hotrods. They'll be jealous! LOL! Regards, Solomon
The camera falls back and in my head all I can think about is the chick from Talladega nights screaming” I love the way the vibrations just running up my legs!!” 😂😂 ..... once you get all this work done I think you need to register the truck to one of those vehicle extended warranty phone calls 😂😂🤣🤣
Gotta pull the Jakes and rocker boxes . . Wow good thing you pulled it apart . Great video thanks . That engine is so clean inside . 400 big cams are a good running dependable motor . And with a little pump work they can run like striped assed apes. Jakes sound like there PULLING down good and hard . AWESOME
As a british commercial mechanic i enjoy seing a good mechanic at work doing something he loves thier is no better feeling than standing back and seeing and hearing something you put your heart and a bit of soul in come to life and breathe again its like a rebirth and a new life for something that was dead and forgotten.
How'd you like Jammin' EIGHTEEN Gears!!?? 😁🍻🍻😊 ..... It was a long time dream, but the biggest thing I ever drove was a Ford F-450 Box Truck. Almost drove a HEMTT 8X8, but missed out. It's fun watching you guys though. I'm A 60yr old Disabled Veteran. Too late for me to start something like that now. But I had NO shortage of fun in what you guys call "4 wheelers"! Can't believe how " theoretically easy" that 13 to 18spd swap was. It used to be ROCKET SCIENCE to swap a 5spd for a 6spd in a Mustang!!! 😵😠😭 Neat trick with the Pilot Shaft, welded to a Jack, for EASIER Clutch alignment. I'm telling friends about that one!! Back to watching! Started from episode one.
I gotta tell u men everytime I c guys like u bringing back these beauty to life and in great condition inspires me to get my own. Been a fan of trucks since i was a kid...
It’s crazy how you can make a video so enjoyable to watch and still very informative on how work on these old trucks, I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Great content
Yes! Old red update! Loving the level of dedication you have to this truck. We have the same engine and right now I am getting a fair amount of blue smoke and when given throttle she sounds a bit rough so I want to do an overhead and new injectors. Thank you for the step by step instructions! 👍🚛
Watched em all. Your content is by far the best when it comes to overhauling or repairing trucks! Your approach is what makes the difference instead to throw your wallet at specialists you are swinging the wrench 🛠️! Best from Germany
Old Red is coming along nicely!! Your knowledge and passion has that truck just about ready to earn for you and look good doing it!!! Really like how you fix things completely and don’t do just patch work !!! Awesome work ethic!!! You keep doing what you do and we will definitely see you on the next one 😎✌️
I just want to show some appreciation. I am not a trucker, not a mechanic, and not American :-) But I appreciate you, with your set of skills and how humble you are about it all, trying to get a bit closer to achieving your goals every day by putting in the work, supported by your family. It is a great thing to watch. And hey, name one boy or guy that doesn't like trucks, right? :-)
Great video my friend it sure is amazing sometimes a little preventive maintenance and a little knowledge with some simple care can make an engine run so much nicer.
Nice job addressing those injectors and all that valvetrain stuff. Definitely a smart man for knocking it out before it becomes a problem. Always look forward to Old Red as it's one of my favorite projects on the 'Tube! I enjoyed the vidja as usual. Take care Ezra, and excited for the next one! 👍👍😎
Both of those injector part #'s are listed under your 0531CPL. I got high flow injectors and a built fuel pump from Pittsburgh Power about 20 years ago for my BCIV. I also plumbed a duel fuel line to feed fuel to the head from both the front and rear. I also added a ceramic coated pulse exhaust manifold. Those mods cost me about $1600 at the time. The motor really woke up and responded well, adding 125-150 hp. I also gained .6mpg. So the fuel savings ended paying for everything in the long run! BOOM
I love them Old big cam Cummins, Back in the day that's how I done the overhead, Untell I run across a old school mechanic in Phoenix Arizona, He taught me to do one hole at a time in firing order, Adjust your valves , And then turn the engine all the way over again, And adjust the injector, All 6 holes but do it in firing order, Takes a little bit longer but it is worth it, It made a huge difference the way it fired up and in cold weather, and it made a huge difference the way it pulled and ran Cooler , be safe

Always a joy to watch the best mechanic I know do his work!!! Only problem I see is ole red is about to be wrapped up and we won’t get to see you do your magic 😭
I absolutely love the Pete and your such a great guy and great mechanic. Good luck with everything. If you want a driver i been around trucks my entire life. I will come out to you snd work. I would love to work for you.
Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us Ezra. I have really enjoyed watching Red being restored to better than his former glory. I am headed home and taking a month off before flatbed freight gets busier, the old Detroit is pressurizing the coolant a little bit. I have had to add 2 gallons in the past 3 weeks. It's not pushing actual coolant on the ground through the overflow tube but I can smell it vaporizing and there is clear liquid dripping occasionally from overflow. Was going to open her up and do a head gasket if the head was good but we decided to do a complete out of frame, she just turned 700k. I am going to do the clutch, flywheel, bull gear etc, and we are swapping in a new 13 speed to replace the Eaton 10 speed. Got some exterior work to do too, the ice building up during the winters has broken the bottom of the fiberglass fenders, they are getting replaced and painted, new 3 door headache rack, 3/4 stainless fenders and blasting the frame and painting. Wish me luck buddy, I haven't don't a complete out of frame before but I have 3 of my buddies helping and one is a Cummins mechanic, one is a certified Detroit mechanic, so I should be in good hands.
My dad sure has heartwarming stories about the Big Can Cummins back when he drove plenty of Freightliners and a Pete 362 back in the 90s!! You should add a rear light bar on Ol Red!!
